The utilization of this unrenewable fuel depletes fossil fuels; thus, an alternative, renewable fuel, such as one based on biohydrocarbon from biomass-green diesel-could be an option. In this work, green diesel was produced through the hydrodeoxygenation from palm oil and processed in a batch-stirred autoclave reactor over natural zeolite (NZ) and NZ modified with 3 wt.% Fe metal (Fe/NZ) as heterogeneous catalyst. NZ showed high crystallinity and suitability to the simulated pattern of the mordenite and clinoptilolite phases according to X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The presence of Fe metal was further confirmed by XRD, with an additional small diffraction peak of Fe0 that appeared at 2θ = 44-45°. Meanwhile, NZ and Fe/NZ were also characterized by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), and Surface Area Analyzer (SAA). Th...

However, the thermal and oxidative stability of biodiesel is not good enough. As a result, biodiesel can only be added to commercial diesel fuel as a mixture with concentration under 20%. To get better thermal and oxidation stability, partial hydrogenation process is applied to biodiesel caused the increase of monounsaturated FAME structure. Activated carbon supported NiMo nanocrystal catalyst was used in partial hydrogenation reaction to get high activity, conversion, and selectivity. In this research, NiMo/C catalyst was prepared by modified microwave polyol process method, which is provided a rapid heating and cooling process. This method can produce nano-sized NiMo/C catalyst with short time and low energy consumption. NiMo/C catalyst produced in this research has 285.85 m 2 /gram surface area and 77.79 nm crystal size, resulting 20.41% conversion and 8.87% selectivity of biodiesel product. Further research should be conducted to obtain optimum condition.

Most of gasoline production is carried out in the petroleum oil refinery through several stages of process and fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) is an important process that can convert some of heavy oil fractions like vacuum gasoil (VGO) and residue to be cracked into gasoline and lighter products. Consumption of gasoline for transportation fuel in Indonesia is higher than its production capability, so this gap has compelled to search the alternative process route using renewable feedstock. Coprocessing of petroleum gasoil with crude palm oil in fluid catalytic cracking had been investigated previously resulting in lower value of conversion as well as gasoline yield when applying co-feeds at higher level of vegetable oils. Cracking feedstock containing triglyceride and fatty acid from vegetable oil is supposed to be the other possibility as a reason of conversion and yield changes. The research work is aimed to find o...
