Mariana Salgado
Mariana works as Senior Service Designer in ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation Systems). She especializes in participatory design and co-design practices within service and interaction design processes. She has been working in the field of cultural heritage, immigration, and healthcare in developing countries.
Mariana Salgado has extensive experience as a design researcher working in service and interaction design in European projects. She has been involved in co-designing participation with vulnerable communities such as immigrants. She holds a bachelor in Industrial Design from the University of Buenos Aires (1998), Argentina; a Master in Product and Strategic Design from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki (2002), and a Doctoral degree from Media Lab Helsinki, from Aalto University (2009). She has done her postdoctoral studies in the Media Department, Aalto University (2013-2016).

A lo largo de estas páginas, la propuesta es indagar en el aporte del diseño a los laboratorios de innovación. A partir de ese objetivo, las entrevistas dan a conocer proyectos innovadores; cómo se insertan e interactúan en el contexto del laboratorio; la forma en que trabajan sus creadores; y cuáles son sus principales reflexiones sobre el campo laboral. En síntesis, cómo se teje la intersección entre dos ámbitos: el gobierno y el diseño.
La visión de quince hacedores está plasmada en esta compilación. En cada entrevista hay, por lo menos, un diseñador de servicios, estratégico o de experiencia, arquitectos o investigadores en diseño abriendo espacios de participación a la ciudadanía y trayendo nuevas maneras de hacer o influenciar políticas públicas a través de sus proyectos. Para la mayoría de las y los entrevistados el sector público no fue su primer trabajo, sino que llegaron allí luego de trabajar en el privado. En ese ámbito el diseño demostró su contribución, incluso en la implementación de diseño como estrategia y para pensar el futuro de las organizaciones.
Salgado proposed the concept of ecology of participation to better understand and make use of content creation and sharing in the museums. Participation needs to be grounded on existing resources, people and practices at the museum. The interactive pieces deployed in the museums provide an arena for exploration of different multimedia resources and creative means to connect with the material in the exhibition.
This analysis is positioned in the context of Interaction Design; however, it combines Museum Studies and Museum Informatics to provide an understanding of the problematic from the museum point of view. The work includes recommendations for museums such as collaborating with other stakeholders, promoting community-created content and trusting the community.
