People use various modes for travelling and interact with each other during their trips for busin... more People use various modes for travelling and interact with each other during their trips for business, shopping, education and tourism. The travel increases the risk of spreading communicable diseases and may escalate the spreading rate at a level that can make an endemic to become a pandemic. On the other hand, the measures, for example, lockdown, taken by governments to control the pandemic, negatively impact travels and, in the worst case, bring the transportation system to a standstill. Thus, it is important to understand this relationship between a pandemic and transportation to control the spread of a disease through transportation and to suppress the negative impacts of that disease on transportation. This book chapter explores this relationship using the COVID-19 pandemic as a case study. Firstly, the chapter highlights the role of transportation in spreading any disease, including COVID-19. Secondly, it summarizes the immediate impacts of COVID-19 on transportation and puts forward ways to recover transport systems after a pandemic. Thirdly, the chapter provides insights into how policymakers can use the scenarios like lockdown to reshape transport systems. Finally, this chapter suggests some proactive approaches that transport agencies can adopt during and after a pandemic

The main purpose of present study was to provide an overview about survival and management of Puc... more The main purpose of present study was to provide an overview about survival and management of Puccinia recondite the causal agent of leaf rust of wheat. Leaf rust was first referred as Uredo rubigovera that produce urediniospores to cause disease on leaf tissue. The resistant wheat cultivars have extensive ability to reduce the production of such uridinospore productions. Such type of cultivars possesses resistant genes such as Lr1, Lr3 which cause impenetrability to rust. Similarly, Lr3ka, Lr3bg and Lr16 have little uredinia encompassed by putrefaction and lines with Lr11 appeared by little uridinia encomposed by chlorosis. In susceptible cultivars, the cultural practice does not ensure flexibility from rust in light of the fact that urediniospores are conveyed long separations by wind. Moreover, other epidemiological factors such as temperature, relative humidity, and rainfall have significant role in breakdown of resistance mechanism of resistant and susceptible cultivars. To overcome these challenges, this paper summarize the recent information of the P. triticina /wheat contact with highlighting on the rust resistance genes in wheat, epidemiology of brown rust, Ordred history and the management of Puccinia Recondita.

Transverse-momentum and event-shape dependence of D-meson flow harmonics in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV

The elliptic and triangular flow coefficients v 2 and v 3 of prompt D 0 , D + , and D * + mesons ... more The elliptic and triangular flow coefficients v 2 and v 3 of prompt D 0 , D + , and D * + mesons were measured at midrapidity (| y| < 0.8) in Pb-Pb collisions at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of √ s NN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The D mesons were reconstructed via their hadronic decays in the transverse momentum interval 1 < p T < 36 GeV/c in central (0-10%) and semi-central (30-50%) collisions. Compared to pions, protons, and J/ψ mesons, the average D-meson v n harmonics are compatible within uncertainties with a mass hierarchy for p T 3 GeV/c, and are similar to those of charged pions for higher p T. The coupling of the charm quark to the light quarks in the underlying medium is further investigated with the application of the event-shape engineering (ESE) technique to the D-meson v 2 and p T-differential yields. The D-meson v 2 is correlated with average bulk elliptic flow in both central and semi-central collisions. Within the current precision, the ratios of per-event Dmeson yields in the ESE-selected and unbiased samples are found to be compatible with unity. All the measurements are found to be reasonably well described by theoretical calculations including the effects of charm-quark transport and the recombination of charm quarks with light quarks in a hydrodynamically expanding medium.

Different genome-wide association and candidate gene studies have shown the role of several genetic variants in multiple loci/genes with ethnical and geographical variations. This study was designed to detect the association of a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs10865035 in the AFF3 gene with the genetic background of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in the Pakistani cohort. A total of 703 individuals, including 409 RA patients and 294 healthy controls, were genotyped using TaqMan assay and Tri primer ARMS-PCR (amplification-refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction) methods. RESULTS: CODIP patients totaling 79.3% had at least one complication, 21.7% having microvascular only, 17.5% macrovascular only, 40% having both microvascular and macrovascular complications. The prevalence of microvascular complications: foot ulcer 6.9% (amputations performed in 2.6%), 1-eye retinopathy 7.3%, both-eyes 17.2%, photocoagulation 9.9%, vitrectomy 1.7%, microalbuminuria 19.1%, manifested nephropathy 11.9%, dialysis 0.3%, neuropathy 41.9%. The prevalence of macrovascular complications: coronary artery disease 42.6% (unstable angina 4.9%), myocardial infarction 14.2%, heart failure 15.5%, PTCA 2.3%, CABG 3.0%, TIA 5.0%, PAD 30.7%. Mean cost, in 6 months observations, for patients with no complications amounted to €498 (PPP value: €1 = 1.9 PLN). Cost impact factor for microvascular only, macrovascular only and microvascular and macrovascular, as compared to patients with no complications were estimated at 1.54, 1.52, and 2.02, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Complications have a substantial impact on direct cost of diabetes type 2.

Their wild changing behaviour helps us to consider them as domestic birds. Ostriches can reach adult height 6-10 feet tall in between 1.5 to 2 years of age and their head may reach 1.8-2.75m above the ground due to large legs. These largest vertebrate only run in case of any danger and can run at a speed of 65-70 kilometer per hour. Presently there are four subspecies of ostriches which are limited to Africa. Ostriches can be reared on short grass plains and semi-arid desert areas. Meat of ostriches is very healthy for humans' consumption. Ostrich birds produce red meat that is similar to deer meat or beef and the hide makes fine leather products. Frequency of mating may be low in confined environment. Mostly breeders are kept in group of trio (1:2); one male for two females. Ostriches can live on any cattle fodder; however during early six months of life they need special feeds for better growth. Ostriches may gain 1Kg body weight with only 3Kg food, unlike cattle which gain 1Kg body mass with 20kg fodder. Ostrich may reach sexual maturity at about two to three years of age and lay 100eggs per season. Ostrich farming is now being done in the globe. Ostrich in Pakistan are now announced as a farm bird of commercial interest which is new turn in poultry industry of Pakistan.

Heritability and correlation analysis for morphological and biochemical traits in Brassica carinata

The present research was undertaken to estimate variation and heritability of some morphological ... more The present research was undertaken to estimate variation and heritability of some morphological and biochemical traits of introduced Ethiopian mustard genotypes. The experiment was carried out in randomized complete block design with three replications at the University of Agriculture Peshawar during 2011-2012. Analysis of variance showed highly significant differences among Brassica Carinata lines for studied parameters. Phenotypic coefficient of variation and genotypic coefficient of variation ranged from 4.92-48.24% and 3.2-38.1%, respectively. The highest heritability values were recorded for pod length (0.83) followed by pods on main raceme (0.82). Genetic advance (as percent of mean) was the highest for seed yield plant-1 and pods on main raceme. Highly significant positive phenotypic correlation for seed yield plant-1 was observed with plant height and primary branches plant-1 whereas significant positive phenotypic correlation was observed with seed pod-1 , while oil content was significantly positive correlated only with erucic acid. Carinata-29, Carinata-38, Carinata-45, Carinata-7, Carinata-47 and Carinata-83 were superior for seed yield and yield contributing traits, whereas Carinata-70 was the best for oil quality traits. On overall basis, carinata-70 and carinata-83 were the best lines hence could be used in breeding programs.
