Biometrics, as a cutting-edge technology, encompasses the intricate process of quantifying and statistically assessing the unique physical and behavioral characteristics that distinguish individuals from one another. Its multifaceted potential extends far beyond mere identification. It is established that biometrics excels in the vital realms of identity verification, content authentication, and countering malicious activities like bots and Sybil attacks. Furthermore, it is applicable for tailoring personalized user experiences, thus offering a comprehensive solution to address the pressing challenges faced by online media today. The usage of these capabilities, makes biometrics a distinctive and promising avenue to not only restore trust but also combat the pervasive issue of misinformation, ultimately fostering a secure and resilient online media ecosystem.

Offering a compelling alternative to conventional social media, decentralized social media instill trust and transparency in online interactions by harnessing distributed ledger technologies such as blockchain, where data resides across multiple nodes controlled by the users themselves. Such decentralized networks employ these systems to provide avenues for private, censorship-free communication, granting users increased agency over their personal data. Through an examination of the fundamental features, analysis of advantages and challenges, and a review of real-world initiatives, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the Web 3 paradigm and its potential to revolutionize the social media landscape, fostering decentralization, democracy, and user-centric experiences.
Decentralized Finance (DeFi) has witnessed remarkable growth, providing innovative financial serv... more Decentralized Finance (DeFi) has witnessed remarkable growth, providing innovative financial services in a decentralized and open manner. However, the inherent nature of DeFi platforms makes them vulnerable to identity attacks, such as Sybil ones, where malicious actors create multiple fake identities to manipulate the system. Sybil attacks can lead to financial losses, and fraudulent activities, and undermine the trustworthiness of DeFi platforms. Addressing this issue is crucial for the long-term success and sustainability of DeFi. This paper proposes a novel approach to enhance the security of DeFi platforms through the integration of Sybil-resistant techniques like biometric-based identity verification. The proposed integration offers a promising avenue for enhancing the trustworthiness and usability of DeFi platforms, ensuring a more resilient and secure DeFi ecosystem.
This paper delves into the philosophical implications of blockchain technology and attempts to dr... more This paper delves into the philosophical implications of blockchain technology and attempts to draw parallels between blockchain concepts and ones in the history of thought and modern theories such as posthumanism, transhumanism, accelerationism, critical theory, and speculative realism. We aim to conceptualize the philosophical core of blockchain, which encompasses cyberpunk, solarpunk, crypto-anarchism, and technolibertarianism among others. Additionally, we identify the thirteen philosophical pillars of blockchain. We argue that this technology challenges traditional notions of identity and trust while enabling greater autonomy and agency. Furthermore, we suggest that blockchain has the potential to bring about significant societal transformations, including the emergence of new forms of governance and the expansion of human capabilities. Finally, we consider some of the critiques and challenges facing blockchain and reflect on its potential role in shaping the future of society and philosophy alike. We conclude by emphasizing the need for further research in this area. * It is important to note that philosophy primarily deals with metaphysical, ontological, and epistemological questions, while blockchain is a technological tool. Many philosophical concepts and theories analyzed in this paper have been simplified while linked with blockchain concepts. Furthermore, the majority of philosophers mentioned in this paper do not explicitly discuss blockchain in their works, and any connection between their philosophy and blockchain should be considered as an interpretive exercise.

Then, the main identity verification mechanisms, their benefits and limitations are outlined alongside initiatives utilizing them. Finally, a comparison of PoP protocols is provided. By highlighting the potential of PoP protocols to revolutionize the way we see identity verification in the Web3 era, this paper contributes to the ongoing discourse around digital identity and provides a foundation for future research and development in this area.

The focus is on NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), CC0 NFTs (Creative Common Zero Non-Fungible Tokens) as NFTs released into the public domain under a CC0 license, and IP-NFTs, or Intellectual Property Non-Fungible Tokens-unique digital assets that use blockchain technology to represent ownership of a piece of IP such as research and other creative works as well as to raise funds. In this paper, we list the main issues in the IP field in science and academia and provide an overview of opportunities of DLT and blockchain for improving it. We sketch an IP x NFTs ecosystem landscape, listing state-of-the-art initiatives and projects, and discuss the main challenges of CC0-and IP-NFTs.

The advent of blockchain technology has led to a massive wave of different decentralized ledger technology (DLT) solutions.
