The Indonesian government is improving all aspects of the education. The use of technology in the classroom has been concerned as it is one of the criteria in OECD rank. In this study, we explore the use of technology in the classroom from in-service teachers’ (n = 20, male = 2, female = 18) perspectives. The data were collected with a web-based survey with some open-ended questions which allow the researcher to detect the teachers’ responses. The findings report that some of the teachers use technology to deliver learning and to attract their students. The others may prefer to deliver teaching without technology to make the students experience the real things. Meanwhile, some combine the use of technology and realia to make the students grab the materials easily and to deliver meaningful learning to the students. The study suggests that the government should no...

Somehow, men and women nowadays interact and assimilate in order to be acceptable in the working world. The researcher was interested in analyzing which women's language features are used. The researcher was also interested in analyzing what factors affect men to use women's language. There were two formulated questions in this research. They were 1) which women's language features are used by Doc. Love in askmen.com? 2) What factors affect Doc. Love to use women's language? This research used discourse analysis to analyze the data. The articles in askmen.com were used as the main data. The articles analyzed to answer the two research questions. In answering the first question, the researcher analyzed women's language features used by Doc. Love in his articles. The researcher used nine features from Lakoff (1973) and one from Jespersen (1922). To answer the second research question, the researcher linked the findings with the changes of masculinity concept in society and a man in his profession. The researcher identified that in his articles Doc. Love used lexical hedges, fillers, hypercorrection grammar, intensifiers, tag question, empty adjectives, superpolite forms, and avoidance of strong swear words. In answering the second question, the researcher discovered factors that affected the use of women's language features by Doc. Love. The factors are the changes of masculinity concept in society and a man in his profession. In the last part, the researcher expects that the research delivers some benefits to English Language Education Study program students, English teachers, and future researchers. For English language study program teachers and students, it is expected that the study can be the source of learning. For future researchers, it is expected that the future researchers can use this study as the reference and produce the better studies.

Teacher identity has become an issue in teaching and teachers’ professional identity development ... more Teacher identity has become an issue in teaching and teachers’ professional identity development since the identity influences teachers’ teaching pedagogies and teachers’ development. Many studies have explored teachers’ identity from in-service teachers’ perspectives. Somehow, small attention has been paid to teachers’ identity construction from pre-service perspectives in Indonesian context. To fill this gap, this research investigated how Indonesian pre-service teachers constructed and reconstructed their identities through peers’ feedbacks in a micro-teaching class. There were three pre-service teachers from Sanata Dharma University who participated in this study. The data were obtained through field observations and interviews. Using Yuan and Lee’s (2015) theory, the study investigated the cognitive, social and emotional processes of their teacher identity construction. The findings of the study suggested that pre-service language teachers developed and modified their identitie...

The comprehensibility of the books is explored through text-and readers-related factors. The text-related factors are text length, complex words, and readability. These factors can be measured using Flesch readability formula (1975). On the other hand, the readers-related factors are situational interest, source of situational interest and meta-cognitive reading strategies. These factors are derived from the readers' responds.

Data were collected from six articles published in The Jakarta Post. The code switching data were analyzed to determine the reasons for the writers to switch codes. Results showed that there existed five reasons for code switching, namely “lack of one word in either language, one wants to make a point, some activities have only been experienced in one of the languages, some words are easier, more distinguishable and easier to use in one of the languages, and the speaker has difficulty in expressing oneself: expressing group identity”. Related to the educational field, it is expected that the results will be beneficial for English teachers or lecturers to be more aware that sometimes they cannot avoid using code switching because translating some Indonesian words into English will lose the essence of the meaning.

The use of specific color terms was proposed by Lakoff (1973). The specific and basic color terms may distinguish the gender of the writers in the magazines. The study analyzed women’s writings in Cosmopolitan Magazine published electronically by https://www.cosmopolitan.com/ and men’s writings in GQ Magazine published electronically by https://www.gq.com/. The data was analyzed using Lakoff’s (1975) and Steinvall’s (2002) theoretical frameworks. Lakoff (1973) argued that women used language features differently. One of the language features stated by Lakoff (1973) was the use of specific color terms. The findings of the research show that there has been a change of specific color term usages, both genders are now using basic and specific color terms. However, men use less specific color terms. The use of language features may be affected by values – ideology, culture and perso...
