Six pre-service senior preschool teachers interviewed twelve school bus drivers, and then took four bus rides with children from school to home and made observations while on the bus. The researchers identified three themes based on the literature: safety, social and physical environment, and communication with drivers. A content analysis approach was used to analyze the data. The findings of this study revealed that three safety rules-unfastened seat belts, use of the front seat, and use of cell phones while driving the school bus-were broken by the school bus drivers. The general social environment of the buses was positive; no conflict was observed among children during their social interactions with each other. The aim of the current study is to examine the relationship between preprimary education and econ... more The aim of the current study is to examine the relationship between preprimary education and economic growth in developing countries for the period 2004-2019. Amaç: Mevcut araştırmanın amacı, 2004-2019 dönemi için gelişmekte olan ülkelerde okul öncesi eğitimi ile ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Design/Methodology: In this study, making use of the relevant literature, two independent variables were added to Mankiw et al. (1992) neoclassical growth model and the extended model was used. The obtained model was estimated by the Generalized Moments Method. Tasarım/Yöntem: Bu çalışmada, ilgili literatürden yararlanılarak Mankiw vd. (1992) neoklasik büyüme modeline iki bağımsız değişken eklenmiş ve genişletilmiş model kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen model Genelleştirilmiş Momentler Yöntemiyle tahmin edilmiştir. Findings: The results revealed that human capital positively effects economic growth. Additionally, preprimary education has a significant impact on economic growth. The results also indicated that the elasticity of human capital investment is higher than physical capital investment. Therefore, it is concluded that human capital supports economic growth more than physical capital. Bulgular: Sonuçlar, beşeri sermayenin ekonomik büyümeyi olumlu etkilediğini ortaya koymuştur. İlaveten okul öncesi eğitim ekonomik büyüme üzerinde önemli bir etkiye sahiptir. Ayrıca sonuçlar beşeri sermaye yatırımının esnekliğinin fiziksel sermaye yatırımından daha yüksek olduğunu göstermiştir. Dolayısıyla beşeri sermayenin ekonomik büyümeyi fiziksel sermayeden daha fazla desteklediği sonucuna varılmıştır. Limitations: Since the data used in the study were only available for 17 developing countries, the remaining developing countries were not included in the model estimation. Sınırlılıklar: Çalışmada kullanılan veriler sadece 17 gelişmekte olan ülke için mevcut olduğundan model tahminin yapılmasında geriye kalan gelişmekte olan ülkelere yer verilmemiştir. Originality/Value: Although the relationship between other stages of education and economic growth has been extensively studied in the literature, there are limited empirical studies between preprimary education and economic growth. For this reason, reaching the results that can contribute to the education policies of developing countries in the study constitutes the original value of the research. Özgünlük/Değer: Eğitimin diğer basamakları ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişki literatürde yoğun bir şekilde incelenmiş olmasına karşın, okul öncesi eğitim ve ekonomik büyüme arasında sınırlı sayıda ampirik çalışma mevcuttur. Bu nedenle çalışmada gelişmekte olan ülkelerin eğitim politikalarına katkı sağlayabilecek sonuçlara ulaşması araştırmanın özgün değerini oluşturmaktadır.

Riskli oyun; belirsizlik, mücadele, heyecan, korku ve fiziksel yaralanma olasılığı barındıran ve ... more Riskli oyun; belirsizlik, mücadele, heyecan, korku ve fiziksel yaralanma olasılığı barındıran ve çocukların kendi güçlü ve zayıf yönlerinin farkına varıp, bu yönlerini test etmelerine ve sınırlarını zorlamalarına fırsat veren bir oyun türü olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, 2012 yılında Hill ve Bundy tarafından geliştirilen Oyunda Risk Alma Toleransı Ölçeği'ni (ORAT) Türkçe'ye uyarlamak ve uyarlanan ölçeğin geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmalarını Rasch analizi ile gerçekleştirmektir. Ölçeğin uyarlanan formuna ilişkin iç geçerlik, dış geçerlik ve iç güvenirlik bulguları, orijinal ölçek ile tutarlılık göstermiştir. Ayrıca, orijinal ölçek geliştirme çalışmasında ortaya çıkan madde hiyerarşisi, mevcut çalışmada da benzer şekilde bulunmuştur. Araştırmanın örneklemi, Türkiye' de Mersin ilinde yer alan beş farklı devlet anaokuluna kayıtlı çocuğu bulunan 340 ebeveynin, amaçlı örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilmesi ile oluşturulmuştur. Sonuç olarak, Oyunda Risk Alma Toleransı ölçeği (ORAT)'ın Türkçe'ye uyarlama çalışmasına yönelik yapılan geçerlik ve güvenirlik analizlerininden elde edilen bulgular, bu ölçeğin yetişkinlerin risk toleransının çocukların riskli oyunları üzerindeki etkisini araştırmak için geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğunu göstermektedir.

Children’s and mothers’ landscape preferences are identified by exploring their personal landscape preferences, educational landscape preferences, and the landscapes they would like to visit together. The main sample of this study includes 105 children who are randomly selected from four different preschools. These four preschools are coded as ‘natural preschool’ and ‘non-natural preschool’ based on the features of their outdoor environments and the use of such areas. The current research examined the effectiveness of four-week nature-based education program on yo... more The current research examined the effectiveness of four-week nature-based education program on young children's affinity toward nature (biophilia). The sample of the study is comprised of 40 preschools children between the age of 60 to 66-month-old residing in Mersin, Turkey. Children's biophilic tendencies were measured before and after the intervention to gauge the effect of their regular interaction with nature and play in such an environment. Children's biophilia were measured using a visually supported scale that included both biophilic and non-biophilic items. A quasi-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design were employed to measure the difference in biophilic tendencies before and after the intervention was given. The results showed that a short-term, naturebased education program in a natural area was effective in terms of increasing children's affinity toward nature. The improvement in children's level of biophilia after the implementation of the program was statistically significant.

The language is introduced to students in public schools from Grade 7. This qualitative study investigated English teachers' efforts in using game activities in teaching speaking and the problems faced in its implementation to EFL (English as a Foreign Langauge) young learners, aged 12-13 years old, at a public middle school in Banda Aceh. Two English teachers from two classes of Grade 7 students were audio-recorded and observed while teaching, and further given a questionnaire. The findings found that both teachers used game activities in their classes. Problems faced by the teachers in implementing these activities revolved around their preparation, class participation and class management. The discussion is elaborated in the paper. The study suggests that well-planned preparation, better class management and a focus more on the students' participation are needed to reduce difficulty in carrying out these activities in large class sizes.

The sample of the study consisted of 116 preschool children selected from four public preschools located in Mersin, Turkey. Children’s Biophilia Measure exploring young children’s levels of affinity toward nature was used as a data collecting material. The findings revealed that the frequencies of young children’s biophilic tendencies were much more than their non-biophilic tendencies. The effect of culture, including parental allowance and restriction, was the most striking factor influencing children’s biophilic or non-biophilic tendencies. The other factors affecting children’s tendencies were affordances of the natural outdoor settings for children’s play, safety hazards outdoors, having fun/feeling enjoyment during nature play, attractiveness/unattractiveness of a natural stimuli, curiosity, and previous experiences in natural environment. Öz: Bu nitel çalışma okul öncesi eğitim almakta olan 5 yaşındaki çocukların kendi cinsiyetlerini ... more Öz: Bu nitel çalışma okul öncesi eğitim almakta olan 5 yaşındaki çocukların kendi cinsiyetlerini değerlendirme biçimlerini ve meslek seçimlerini ortaya koymak amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmaya Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi'ndeki merkez bir ilin dezavantajlı bir bölgesinde yaşayan ve MEB'e bağlı bağımsız anaokullarında eğitim gören 5 yaşındaki 24 kız ve 26 oğlan çocuğu katılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçları çocukların cinsiyet algılarının yaşadıkları toplumda cinsiyetle ilgili var olan kalıp yargılarla oldukça benzer olduğunu göstermiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçları, kız çocukların cinsiyet tanımlamalarının dış görünüş/fiziki özelliklere, oğlan çocuklarının cinsiyet tanımlamalarının ise daha çok yaptıkları etkinlikler ya da davranışlar üzerine olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Çalışmaya katılan kız çocuklarının yaşadıkları toplumda gözlemledikleri işleri gelecekte meslek olarak yapmak istedikleri (bulaşık yıkamak, temizlikçi olmak vb.), oğlan çocuklarının ise asker, polis ve şoförlük gibi maskülen özellikleri baskın meslekleri yapmak istedikleri gözlemlenmiştir.

The current paper had two aims, first to investigate Turkish pre-service preschool teachers' perc... more The current paper had two aims, first to investigate Turkish pre-service preschool teachers' perceptions of different kinds of landscapes that can be used to achieve their educational goals, their ideas about the characteristics of these settings, and the contribution to children's education, the resource needs, motivations, and barriers they associated with these settings, and second to explore the possible relationship between nature relatedness of the participants and their outdoor setting type preferences (educational and personal). The participants were 300 pre-service preschool teachers from two universities in Turkey. The researchers used a landscape preferences questionnaire accompanied by 16 photographs of types of outdoor settings and human influence attributes to explore the landscape preferences of the participants. Additionally, a nature relatedness scale was used to investigate the participants' understanding of how human beings and nature are connected. The results showed that while the participants' educational preferences were generally in the categories of park and maintained settings, their personal preferences were water and natural areas. The results also revealed that although there were no significant differences in the preferences of th e participants' educational landscape and their level of nature relatedness, there were statistically significant differences in their personal landscape preferences and levels of nature relatedness.
