The release of these factors into the environment has increased concerns related to public health. The aim of the study was to evaluate the antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the environmental resources. In this systematic review, the data were extracted from valid sources of information including ScienceDirect, PubMed, Google Scholar and SID. Evaluation and selection of articles were conducted on the basis of the PRISMA checklist. A total of 39 articles were included in the study, which were chosen from a total of 1249 papers. The inclusion criterion was the identification of genes encoding antibiotic resistance against the eight important groups of antibiotics determined by using the PCR technique in the environmental sources including municipal and hospital wastewater treatment plants, animal and agricultural wastes, effluents from treatment plants, natural waters, sediments, and drinking waters. ...

As solutions, notions of exact and approximate solutions are considered. We transform the fuzzy linear system into a corresponding linear crisp system and a constrained least squares problem. If the corresponding crisp system is incompatible, then the fuzzy LR system lacks exact solutions. We show that the fuzzy LR system has an exact solution if and only if the corresponding crisp system is compatible (has a solution) and the solution of the corresponding least squares problem is equal to zero. In this case, the exact solution is determined by the solutions of the two corresponding problems. Abstract Seismic response of 9 regular and irregular four-span RC bridges with different configur... more Abstract Seismic response of 9 regular and irregular four-span RC bridges with different configurations was studied using elastic and inelastic time history analyses. The influence of using different approaches for applying the ground motion records, considering the interaction of the orthogonal horizontal components of the ground motion records and their incident angles, was investigated. For this purpose, the records were applied to the structural models using three different methods and the results were compared. To investigate the influence of the directivity of the records on the mean seismic response, the records were applied at 19 different incident angles. The use of the 100–30 combination rule for prediction of the maximum response was also investigated. In addition, the results from linear and nonlinear analyses were compared and the maximum ductility demands and drift ratios were predicted. The results indicated that as the irregularity of the bridges increased, the seismic response became more coupled in the two principal directions and also became more sensitive to the incident angle of the records. It was also shown that when the mean seismic response was considered, the results were less sensitive to the incident angle compared to the case that the response from the individual records was considered.

Predicting students' mathematics anxiety can help educators to have a better understanding of students, and potentially could help them to know if specific interventions are needed to design to control students' anxiety level. Epidemiology is the study of the distribution of diseases and other health matters. Recently, epidemiological modeling has been widely used as a tool to predict future behaviors in social sciences, economics, and disease progression. In the present study, an epidemiological model is designed to predict undergraduate students' mathematics anxiety level. The findings show that a high percentage of students, approximately 70%, will suffer from high mathematics anxiety in near future.

Survey on Odorous Mineral Gases in the Air Around the Wastewater Treatment Plant: A Case Study in a Stabilization Pond

Malodors are one of the problems of water and wastewater treatment plants, especially in the vici... more Malodors are one of the problems of water and wastewater treatment plants, especially in the vicinity of residential areas. Mineral compounds like hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) and ammonia (NH 3) produce unpleasant smells in the wastewater treatment plants. These gases also have adverse effects on both humans and the environment. After field visits around the plant, a number of 12 sampling stations were determined. Sampling stations were selected from 4 cardinal directions with regard to permanent trade winds and on distances of 0, 2 and 4 km from the plant. Sampling was performed in the morning and evening during the four seasons. Jacob and Indophenol methods were used for measuring the concentration of H 2 S and NH 3. According to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey test, and concentrations of NH 3 and H 2 S during different seasons, the emissions were more significant in the warm seasons and caused more malodors (P = 0.011, P = 0.004 for NH 3 and H 2 S, respectively). Moreover, there was a significant relationship between the concentration of NH 3 and sampling sites (P = 0.000). However, the relationship between the concentration of H 2 S and sampling stations was not significant (P = 0.179). According to the results, the concentrations of H 2 S and NH 3 in all the seasons except for winter were within the threshold limits. The concentration of H 2 S in the summer and the concentration of NH 3 in all the seasons were higher than USEPA standards and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.

Simultaneous removal of phenol and linear alkylbenzene sulfonate from automotive service station wastewater: Optimization of coupled electrochemical and physical processes

This work investigates the feasibility of the coupled electrochemical (electrocoagulation/flotati... more This work investigates the feasibility of the coupled electrochemical (electrocoagulation/flotation) and physical processes such as sedimentation, sand filtration, and activated carbon for treatment of automotive service wastewater (ASWW). The impacts of critical parameters viz. pH solution (5-9), reaction time (30-90) and current intensity (1-2) on linear alkylbenzene sulphonate (LAS) and phenol removal efficiencies as well as energy consumption and operating cost are studied. Central composite design (CCD) as a response surface methodology (RSM) is employed. The results reveal by increasing current intensity at low levels of pH, the phenol removal efficiency was increased significantly up to 95%. On the other hand, at pH 9.5 with current intensity of 1.5A, the highest removal efficiency of LAS was achieved with 98.5%. Moreover, at the optimum conditions, LAS and phenol removal efficiencies, energy consumption and operating cost are obtained 96.7%, 87.65%, 15.99 Wh, 0.001 US$, respectively. This process reveals a feasible technology for phenol and LAS removal from ASWW.

Drug addiction has been associated with an increased risk for cancer, psychological complications... more Drug addiction has been associated with an increased risk for cancer, psychological complications, heart, liver, and lung disease, as well as infection. While genes have been identified that can mark individuals at risk for substance abuse, the initiation step of addiction is attributed to persistent metabolic disruptions occurring following the first instance of narcotic drug use. Advances in analytical technologies can enable the detection of thousands of signals in body fluids and excreta that can be used to define biochemical profiles of addiction. Today, these approaches hold promise for determining how exposure to drugs, in the absence or presence of other environmentally relevant factors, can impact human metabolism. We posit that these can lead to candidate biomarkers of drug dependence, treatment, withdrawal, or relapse.

Sonocatalytic Degradation of Humic Substances From Aquatic Environments Using MgO Nanoparticles

Humic substances are considered as one of the major natural organic contaminants in water resourc... more Humic substances are considered as one of the major natural organic contaminants in water resources. Presence of such substances in the drinking water supply resources results in poor water quality and jeopardizes the consumer's health. In the present study, sonocatalytic decomposition of the humic substances by using MgO nanoparticles was investigated under the radiation of the ultrasonic waves. Accordingly, the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques were used to determine characteristics of the nanoparticles. Furthermore, the effects of various parameters, including the amount of nanoparticles, initial pH, initial concentration of humic substances, contact time, as well as the power and frequency of ultrasonic waves on the efficiency of the sonocatalytic decomposition of humic substances were investigated. Results of the present study showed that the efficiency of sonocatalytic decomposition of humic substances was reduced by increasing the initial pH and initial concentration of the humic substances; while, the increased amount of the nanocatalyst resulted in the increased efficiency of decomposition. Furthermore, the obtained results indicated that the MgO sonocatalytic process could decompose the humic substances with the efficiency of 78.5% under optimal conditions (pH:7, initial concentration of humic substances: 20 mg/L, concentration of nanoparticles:1 g/L, power: 100%, frequency: 37 kHz and contact time:120 min). Based on the obtained results, the sonocatalytic method using MgO can remove humic substances and other similar organic matters from the aquatic environments with a high efficiency.

We present an experimental investigation of the diffusion of unfolded polymers in the triply-peri... more We present an experimental investigation of the diffusion of unfolded polymers in the triply-periodic water-channel network of inverse bicontinuous cubic phases. Depending on the chain size, our results indicate the presence of two different dynamical regimes corresponding to Zimm and Rouse diffusion. We support our findings by scaling arguments based on a combination of blob and effective-medium theories and suggest the presence of a third regime where dynamics is driven by reptation. Our experimental results also show an increasing behavior of the partition coefficient as a function of the polymer molecular weight, indicative of a reduction in the conformational degrees of freedom induced by the confinement.

Fuzzy LR algebraic linear systems are linear systems with LR fuzzy coefficient matrix and an LR fuzzy vector as the right-hand side. We consider an approximate solution when the fuzzy LR algebraic linear system lacks a solution. Also, we propose a linear programming problem to compute a solution or an approximate solution of a fuzzy LR algebraic linear system. Finally, by numerical examples, we show show the suitability of our proposed approximate solution in comparison with another proposed approximate solution.

Following the approach proposed by Dai and Liao, we introduce two nonlinear conjugate gradient me... more Following the approach proposed by Dai and Liao, we introduce two nonlinear conjugate gradient methods for unconstrained optimization problems. One of our proposed methods is based on a modified version of the secant equation proposed by Zhang, Deng and Chen, and Zhang and Xu, and the other is based on the modified BFGS update proposed by Yuan. An interesting feature of our methods is their account of both the gradient and function values. Under proper conditions, we show that one of the proposed methods is globally convergent for general functions and that the other is globally convergent for uniformly convex functions. To enhance the performance of the line search procedure, we also propose a new approach for computing the initial steplength to be used for initiating the procedure. We provide a comparison of implementations of our methods with the efficient conjugate gradient methods proposed by Dai and Liao, and Hestenes and Stiefel. Numerical test results show the efficiency of our proposed methods.
