In the field of civil engineering, most of the use of FRP is confined to repairing and strengthening of structures. FRPs offer an added advantage over conventional materials and methods of retrofitting. Like other materials, FRP also has its limitations. After presenting a brief review on these dimensions, this paper provides a thorough survey of the research, education and application field of FRP in civil engineering in India and China. The paper also indicates pitfalls in the field and furnishes suggestions for improvement. I. PROLOGUE India and its neighbor China are the two big emerging

An experimental program consisting of two point loading tests on nine FRP strengthened and three unstrengthened RC beams was conducted under monotonic loading. The parameters of research were percentage of internal tensile steel in beams, FRP configuration and combination thereof. Mode and mechanism of failure, effectiveness and efficiency of the scheme applied for flexural strengthening using FRP under monotonic loading have been discussed. It was observed that flexural strengthening of RC beams provides additional strength but with brittle mode of failure and at cost of ductility. FRP strengthened beams after FRP rupture show behaviour of unstrengthened beams with yielded steel. In no case end span debonding has been noticed, extending FRP to supports effectively...

An experimental program consisting of two point loading tests on nine FRP strengthened and three unstrengthened RC beams was conducted under cyclic loading to obtain stability points. The parameters of research were percentage of internal tensile steel in beams, FRP configuration and combination thereof. Mode and mechanism of failure, effectiveness and efficiency of the scheme applied for flexural strengthening using FRP, permissible load capacity of FRP strengthened beams under cyclic loading have been discussed. It was observed that flexural strengthening of RC beams provides additional strength but with brittle mode of failure and at cost of ductility. FRP strengthened beams after FRP rupture show behaviour of unstrengthened beams with yielded steel. In no case end span debonding has been noticed, extending FRP ...

Out of a vast experimental programme conducted to find out response of Reinforced Concrete beams ... more Out of a vast experimental programme conducted to find out response of Reinforced Concrete beams strengthened in bending with Fiber Reinforced Polymer under cyclic loading, only common point approach is presented here. Common point approach is less accurate but far quicker as compared to stability point approach, and can be considered for indicative purpose. Two point loading tests on overall twelve RC beamsthree unstrengthened and nine FRP strengthened were conducted under cyclic loading to find common points. Parameters of research were percentage of internal tensile steel in beams, FRP configuration and combination thereof. Load deflection curves were obtained from the tests, and with the help of these curves, common points were obtained, and common point curves were drawn. Comparisons of curves were made. Failure pattern, effect of the FRP strengthening, and permissible load capacity of FRP strengthened beams under cyclic loading have been discussed. Flexural strengthening of RC...

Besides this, the study analyzes the effect of two closely mentioned particle size (GP75 and GP63) with 0–20% substitution on the behavior of concrete. To validate the blended system serviceability with control, the results are analyzed with the three‐way data presentation. The properties of specimen at fresh and hardening stages are compiled for 7, 28, and 90 days of curing period. The results of the study with respect to control and blended mixes describe that workability is not varied significantly up to 20% inclusion and the pozzolanic activity of GP63 is higher than that of the GP75, as the SAI value observed is 87–117% and 81–108%, respectively. In terms of strength, it is the bunch of compressive, split tensile, and flexural strength behavior demonstr...

Now to synchronize the alarming signals of unbalancing health of nature, the researchers are tuning up with ecological development. One of the basic solutions to create the balance between them; is by using waste material in the construction and building industry looking for reusing material of such a nature. The glass powder has properties deemed to be incorporated in making mortar and concrete as substitution of cement. Meanwhile, to make this substitution sound relevant to designated as competent in the category of pozzolana material, numerous work is going on. In a present study we analyze 45-μm glass powder at 0-20% substitution to describe its essence in the response of fresh, short-and long-term properties of blended mortar mix and the durability concern. The results signify that SAI value lies between 90 and 126%, and lime reactivity is close to fly ash based lime mortar. Moreover, the compressive and transverse strength at the later stage showing higher strength than control and from durability side the results are within the safe limit. Apart from that, the authentication of the results is also carried out by Combined SEM & EDX images of the paste and mortar. The results of an environmental impact study of the control and blended paste signifying 20% reduction in indexes of the sustainable environment for glass powder mix at 20% as compared to control.
