Flacourtia sepiaria (Flacourtiaceae) is the most useful traditional medicinal plant in India. Although there is no such Phytopharmacological activities has been carried out but, still it is considered as a valuable source of unique natural products for development of medicines and targeting against various diseases. Each part of its allied species i.e., (leaves, bark, stem, fruits, root and even whole plant) of the Flacourtia indica has demonstrated several pharmacological activities including Anti-Inflammatory, Antimicrobial, Antioxidant, Hepatoprotective, Antimalarial, Anti-Diabetic, Anti asthmatic and Antibacterial Activity. The present review highlights a literature on botanical and pharmacological discussion of Flacourtia sepiaria. The isolation was based on bio-assay guided fractionation. The methanol, hexane extracts and isolated okanin from methanol extracts were exhibited good antibacterial activity towards various pathogens gram positive (Micrococcus luteus and Staphlcocous aureus) and gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, R. planticola and Acinetobacter). The antiinflammatory activity of hexane extracts, methanol extracts of Dalbergia sisso Roxb and okanin have been studied. The methanolic extract showed maximum activity. This is the first report of any chalcone from the genus Dalbergia. The finding suggests more research would be required for presence of new phytoconstituents.

However, no scientific data has been made available in support of the claimed ethnomedicinal reported species for the treatment of diarrhoea. To evaluate the antidiarrhoeal activity of the ethyl acetate fraction of methanolic extract of leaves Canthium coromandelicum (EA-MECC) and justifies its use in traditional medicine for the treatment of diarrhoea. The antidiarrhoeal activity of EA-MECC was evaluated for castor oil induced diarrhoea along with gastrointestinal motility and enteropooling in albino rats. The fraction was given to the animals orally at the doses of 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg body weight. Loperamide was used as a standard drug as antidiarrhoeal agent. The oral administration of EA-MECC (100 and 200 mg/kg b.w.) showed a significant (p<0.05) dose dependent inhibitory activity against the castor oil induced diarrhoea, gastrointestinal motility in charcoal meal tes...

Canthium coromandelicum (Rubiaceae) is one of traditional medicinal plant in India which is used for treatment of various ailments. Different parts of plants (ie., leaves, bark, stem, fruits, root and even whole plant) have shown to have various pharmacological activities like antimicrobial activity, antioxidant activity , hepatoprotective activity, antimalarial activity, anti-diabetic activity, anti asthmatic and antibacterial Activity. Phytochemicals reported in the plants have been listed based on their pharmacological activity. Although Phytopharmacological reports are very less, still it is considered as a valuable source of treatment against various diseases. The present review highlights a literature on botanical, chemical and pharmacological discussion of Canthium coromandelicum.
