From its beginnings to the present day the language of film has evolved in different contexts, un... more From its beginnings to the present day the language of film has evolved in different contexts, undergone transformations and produced different cinematic narrative possibilities in different forms and contents. These narrative possibilities exist mainly within the classical Aristotelian structure, but with the adaptation of the Brechtian structure to cinema, they have also taken different directions. This shift has led to various changes in screenwriting, cinematography, acting and other areas. The central question of this study is based on these differences, with a particular focus on the gaze in cinema. The main aim is to analyse classical and contemporary narrative structures in the context of actors' direct gaze to the camera, interpreting the differences through The Brand New Testament (2015) and Funny Games (1997). The aim of this study is to examine the positioning of these two films in the context of contemporary narrative structures, with a particular focus on the direct gaze of the actors and the concept of alienation. The aim of this research is twofold. First, it aims to categorize the direct gazes of the actors in the two films that are the object of research and to examine them together with the characteristics of contemporary narrative cinema. Second, the study aims to clarify the role of the actor's direct gaze within this narrative framework. This study aims to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of narrative nuances in contemporary cinema and aims to reveal the elements that transform classical viewing practices in cinema from a direct perspective.

Cinema is an ideological art that has the potential to show the tendencies, ideological codes and sensitivities in the society it lives in as a living art in society. Based on this perspective, there is an opportunity to analyze the discursive codes and ideological origins in the multidimensional forms within the Film Art in a sociocultural context with a critical perspective. At this point, it is possible to go to the racist discourses in the films, by using the critical discourse analysis method and analyzing the discursive codes in a sociocultural context.It is the aim of the study to show how "racist discourse" codes produced actively in the society are supported with films, "Elite" series with critical discourse analysis based on Fairclough's sociocultural context and multidimensional interpretation process. The analysis of the ideological and racist codes in the movies was added not only to the use of critical discourse analysis, but also to the "Cinematographic Analysis" method to show how cinematic codes support these racist discourses. It has been tried to contribute to the literature by revealing how the filmic codes based on ethnic discrimination are aesthetized and articulated into the cinematic structure with the aforementioned two analysis methods.

Araştırma, bu bağlamda çalışma kapsamını genişletmek için farklı etnik kökenlerden bireylerle yapılan anketleri ve derinlemesine görüşmeleri içeren nitel ve nicel yöntemleri birleştirmektedir. Çalışmanın önemli bir bileşeni, tarihi Türk televizyon dizilerinin ilgili bölgelerde izlenmesinin Türk imgesine ve Türkiye‘ye yönelik algıları nasıl etkilediğinin incelenmesidir. Çalışmanın çerçevesi, Türkiye‘nin kültürel diplomasisine yalnızca kamu güdümlü televizyon kanallarının katılımını değil aynı zamanda özel televizyon kuruluşlarıyla özel sektörün de katılımını içeren kültüralist bir yaklaşımı içermektedir. Bu yaklaşım kültürel diplomasinin Türkiye Cumhuriyeti‘nin tarihi dizilerle yakalamış olduğu çok boyutlu arka planları göstermesi açısından önemlidir. Son yıllarda Türkiye Cumhuriyeti, kendi kültürel diplomasisini ilerletmek için Türk İşbirliği ve Koordinasyon Ajansı Başkanlığı (TİKA), Yunus Emre Enstitüleri, Yurtdışı Türkler ve Akraba Topluluklar gibi kurumlarının yanı sıra Türk televizyon dizi endüstrisini de güçlendirmiştir. Türk televizyon dizileri, Türk kültürel unsurlarının, dilinin ve tarihinin dünyaya tanıtılmasında etkili birer araç haline dönüşmüştür. Bu anlamda tarih temalı Türk dizileri de Türkiye‘nin etkin birer kültür elçileri olarak görevlerini sürdürmektedirler.
