Methods: After translation qualitative face validity and content validity was established for the questionnaire. In order to evaluate the construct validity, known-groups comparison (nonsurgical versus surgical patients) was performed and to determine its differential validity, intensive care unit were compared with the conventional wards using independent-sample t-test. The internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficients) were used to assess the scale reliability. 150 family members of patients in intensive care units and 150 patients' family members in general medical and surgical wards participated in this study. Results: Significant differences were found between surgical and nonsurgical patients' family (p=0.03) as well as the intensive care unit and conventional wards (p=0.007). There were significant positive correlations between all scale dimensions (0.684≤r≤0.439, p<0.001). Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total scale was 0.926 while it was more than 0.7 in three dimensions (support, comfort and closeness). It was between 0.6 to 0.7 in the two other dimensions (information and confidence). Conclusion: The findings confirmed that the Iranian version of Critical Care Family Need Inventory is a valid measure for assessing family needs of patients admitted to intensive care units.

Recognition of the spiritual strategies of role model instructors for when nursing students are exposed to threats and obstacles to spiritual growth can enable nurses to deal with such situations. This study was conducted to investigate the experiences of nursing students about the spiritual strategies of role model instructors in the role modeling process. In this qualitative study, 22 nursing students were selected based on purposive sampling in 2012. Data were analyzed through conventional content analysis. Data from three focus group discussions (n=20) and two individual interviews with nursing students were collected from five nursing schools in Tehran. Spiritual strategies for role modeling were classified in two main categories: religious beliefs establishment and commitment to ethics. The use of teaching strategies based on spirituality by role model instructors in hidden curriculum was an expression of their religious beliefs in the face of the challenges and obstacles that nursing students confront in their profession, and these strategies helped the spiritual growth of nursing students. It is therefore recommended to promote spiritual development in nursing education, and employ the spiritual strategies of role model instructors to encourage the spiritual growth of nursing students, on whom public health depends.

This study aimed to translate and validate the questionnaire in Iran. Methods: This was a methodological study. After translation from English into Persian and obtaining the views of experts, the content and face validity of the questionnaire were determined qualitatively. In order to determine the validity known groups comparison and criterion validity (correlation coefficient between Persian version of HFKS and European Heart Failure Self-Care Behavior and Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire-MLHF) were performed. Reliability was examined using internal consistency analysis and test re test.. Results: In all 150 patients with coronary hear disease completed the questionnaire. The results of known groups comparison showed that the mean knowledge of patients with heart failure with moderate economic level was significantly higher than other patients (p = 0.0001). Criterion validity showed a significant correlation between Persian version of the HFKS and the European Heart Failure Self-Care Behavior (r = 0.83) and Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire-MLHF (r = 0.175). The internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) was 0.84. Test-retest reliability (ICC) of the questionnaire with interval time of two weeks was 0.88 (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The findings indicated that the Iranian version of the HFKS is a valid instrument and could be used to measure the knowledge of patients with heart failure in research and treatment departments. It is suggested that in the future studies the construct validity of the HFKS questionnaire should be investigated using a factor analysis in a more representative sample.

Previous studies have indicated adverse effects of anxiety on these patients. Aim: to determine the effect of sound therapy on the anxiety and blood pressure of patients on waiting list for endoscopy. Methods: This was a randomized clinical trial, in which 124 patients on waiting list for endoscopy were randomly divided into control and experimental groups at the department of endoscopy in Mustafa Khomeini hospital in 2012- 2013. Patients in the experimental group received nature-based sounds 20 minutes before endoscopy, while the control group received routine interventions. Anxiety (using spielburger questionnaire) and blood pressure were measured 20 minutes and immediately before endoscopy in both groups. The data were analyzed by independent t-test, chi-square, and Fisher’s exact tests using SPSS (v. 14). Results: In the experimental group, 56.45% were women and in the control gro...

The purpose of this study was to determine the burden of caregiving burden and to investigate the relationship between anxiety, depression and burden burden in caregivers of elderly patients with Alzheimer's disease. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 315 caregivers aged 20 to 85 years who had direct care of the elderly with Alzheimer's disease for at least 6 months were selected by voluntary sampling. Data collection was done in 1398. The research environment was the Alzheimer's Society of Iran. Data were collected by Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Caregiver Stress Inventory (CBI) and analyzed by SPSS version 22. Frequency percentages, independent T-test, ANOVA were used to achieve the research objectives. Results: The majority of Alzheimer's caregivers endured moderate to severe c...

Abundant stressful factors existing in this job cause the occurrence of physical and mental disorders in nurses. Objectives: Therefore, the aim of this research was to determine the effect of health messages on job stress of nurses working in ICU (intensive care unit). Methods: This empirical study was performed in ICUs of hospitals in Babol city in 2015-2016. The research population included all employed and eligible nurses working in ICUs of hospitals affiliated to Babol University of Medical sciences. After homogenization, the subjects were randomly divided into two groups of 40 named intervention and control groups. The tools for data collection included a demographic form and OSIPOW job stress questionnaire, which were completed by both groups. Then, for the nurses in the intervention group, 2 messages per week were sent regularly with a constant interval for three months. The OSIPOW questionnaire was completed by both groups one day and one month after the completion of the intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS v 20 software. Shapiro Wilk test was used to examine normal distribution of continuous quantitative variables. The data were evaluated using descriptive and inferential statistics (Mann Whitney and Freedman tests). Significance level was set at P < 0.05. Results: The nurses participating in this study were homogenously distributed in two groups in terms of job stress levels before performing the intervention. The mean scores of job stress in nurses working in ICU were 242.05 ± 22.72 in the intervention group and 241.80 ± 24.22 in the control group (P = 0.068). Also, the mean scores of job stress in nurses in the control group before the intervention, one day, and one month after the completion of the intervention were not significantly different from each other (P < 0.001), While the mean scores of job stress in nurses in the intervention group one day after the completion of the intervention meaningfully decreased compared to the control group. Therefore, message-based procedure decreased job stress in nurses working in ICUs (P < 0.001). Conclusions: The findings of this research showed that job stress level in nurses of the case group reduced after the intervention. Therefore, sending health messages can cause a decrease in job stress among nurses working in intensive care units.
