Meningocele is the herniation of the meninges containing cerebrospinal fluid through the cranium bifidum. This congenital defect is attributed to the intake of certain poisonous plants, genetic abnormalities, hereditary factors, malnutrition, bovine viral diarrhea, and others. The obvious clinical sign is a floating saccular protrusion of varied size and volume and is typically associated with cranium bifidum in the frontal or parietal region. Surgical management involves exposing the effective cranial opening and suturing the dura mater in a simple continuous pattern. Prognosis depends on the presence or absence of neurological signs; neurological signs are associated with morphological changes in brain tissue with poor prognosis.

The Fallacy of a New Woman in Lola Shoneyi’s The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives
International Journal of Applied Linguistics and English Literature, May 31, 2022
This paper explores the concept of "new woman" as conceived by Nigerian women w... more This paper explores the concept of "new woman" as conceived by Nigerian women writers through the lens of Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo's snail-sense feminism. Most feminists believe that a woman should be sophisticated, educated, and intelligent, and that she should be able to endure whatever tasks assigned to her at home and in her day-today activities, among other things. This idea stemmed from a desire to demonstrate to the world that a woman's biological make-up should not be the sole criterion used to discriminate against other women in society. To demonstrate to readers that the entire notion of a "new woman" is nothing more than selfdeception and a distorted version of the feminist struggle, the article examines Lola Shoneyi's novel, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives (2015). Shoneyi portrays Baba Segi's four wives as clever and smart, even though the first three women, Iya Segi, Iya Tope, and Iya Femi, had no formal education. The novelty of this study is that it examines the concept of a new woman as a means of striking back at men who believe they are intellectually superior to women. Despite this, the author has been successful in ridiculing such egos by portraying the female characters as being smarter and more intelligent than the male characters. The finding of this research is that it demonstrates to readers that the issue of the "new woman" is to encourage escapades, as proclaimed by some feminists in most developing countries like Nigeria.

With a weight range of 250–275.5g and a mean length of 23.5-28.5cm, 150 post-juvenile catfish were purchased from Dalar Kifi Fish Farm BUK New site road, Kano State, and acclimated in a tank for 14 days. Fish were exposed to different vehicle wastewater concentrations of 0.0, 20, 40, 60, and 80% v/v with 5-level exposure concentrations during the acute test (96 hours) in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) employing renewal bioassay. The acute bioassay showed that the LC50 for the wastewater was 56 percent by volume at 96 hours. Compared to the control, the exposed fish exhibited abnormal swimming, erratic opercular movement, reflex loss, mucus secretion, increased air gulping with an increase in wastewater concentration. Except for water temperature, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and pH, the remaining physicochemical parameters were not within the WHO/FAO recommended Standard T...

In order to explore the issue of xenophobia in Kiguli's selected poems, the study identified and analyzed three poems from the collection titled Home Floats in the Distance (2012). This was done in order to analyze the issue of xenophobia in Uganda, which has been identified as a post-independence disillusionment. As a direct consequence of this disillusionment, the people have gotten frustrated, and as a result, they have focused their rage on the defenseless immigrants who are now residing in the country. The notion of "institutionalized xenophobia" was also investigated as part of the study, as past governments are culpable of the heinous act. The study that was carried out analyzed Kiguli's portrayal of xenophobia in the poems that are being examined for this study through the lens of Melanie Klein's concept of the paranoid-schizoid ...

These toxicants persist in aquatic environment and cause harmful effects to non- target organisms including fish. The development of pesticide tolerant species led to the need and use of varieties of pesticides with the risk of exposure to many compartments including water. Many pesticides have been proscribed for agricultural purposes by the regulatory agencies such as WHO (2020). However, It is unfortunate that many of these are sold in Nigeria or donated by donor agencies. The donated pesticides often become “obsolete” while in stock due to poor logistics and delays in receiving them at the point of need. The review on the classification, bioavailability, biotransformation, the direct and indirect effects of pesticides on freshwater fish was carried out. Biomarkers of pesticides toxicity t...

The digested fish tissue samples were analyzed in mg/g for Cr, Cu, Ni, Cd and Pb using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (Model IL250). The mean values of heavy metals concentrations showed Cr>Ni>Cu>Pb>Cd, Cr>Cu>Pb>Ni>Cd and Cr>Pb>Ni>Cu>Cd in Oreochromisniloticus, Clariasgariepinus and Tilapia zilli respectively. There was an observed variations in which O. niloticus had a higher heavy metals concentration, but not statistically significant at P≤0.05. With respect to fish tissues, Gills had the highest bioaccumulation followed by liver while the least concentration was recorded in kidney with no significant difference between the organs. The values of the heavy metals obtained from the sampling sites were within the FAO s...

Laboratory analyses were performed using standard methods in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Five test solutions of the effluents (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% v/v) were prepared for LC50 96hr acute toxicity test. The LC50 for 96hr was 48.7% concentration of effluents by volume. Experimental fish were exposed to sublethal concentrations of 0.00% 2.43% (5/100 LC50), 12.17% (25/100 LC50), 24.35% (50/100 LC50) and 36.52% (75/100 LC50) for 28days. Physicochemical parameters recorded were higher than WHO recommended Standard with the exception of water temperature. Heavy metals concentrations decreased in the order of Cr > Cu > Pd > Cd. Red blood Cells count, haemoglobin concentrations, packed cell volume, lymphocytes and monocytes of the experimental fish decline sign...

Project time management includes the processes required to manage the timely completion of the project. However, in the construction sector such as in Nigeria, poor delivery of project especially completion within schedule has remained an issue, despite established processes of time management. The crux of this study is to investigate adherence with the processes of time management in construction project delivery in Nigeria and the objectives are: to assess the level of adherence with the processes of time management, and to determine the effect of adherence with the processes of time management on construction project timely completion. The study was conducted in Gombe State, Nigeria. Stratified random sampling technique was used to administer 88 questionnaires to professionals such as: the Architects, Builders, Quantity surveyors, Engineers and Project managers who were personnel working for the client, consultants and contractors in various projects locations in the study area. The data collected was analyzed with SPSS software using weighted mean score, one sample t-test and regression. Findings revealed that the most adhered processes of time management are: monitoring and controlling the project schedule, estimating resource requirement for activities and developing schedule of the project. Adherence with the processes of time management will lead to 15.4% caused effect increase on timely completion of project. As such, it is recommended that construction stakeholders should collaborate and adhered strictly with all the established processes of time management as a guide in order to ensure successful completion of construction project within schedule in Nigeria.

Public Procurement Guidelines are the procedural manual guiding public procurement processes. The guidelines are as provided by the public procurement Act PPA 2007, since then compliance with the guidelines has been facing a lot of obstacles. This paper identified and reviewed three major determinants of compliance with the procurement guidelines to include Familiarity with the procurement guidelines, Fraudulent Practices, and Influencing Projects awards. Thus recommended that, to achieve adequate compliance with the procurement guidelines procurement entities need to create room for awareness through training and workshops. The Bureau of public procurement must also ensure prosecution o...
