The present expository paper shares the author's experiences in delivering the FEA subject to university students both at the undergraduate and the graduate levels. The most common pitfalls for the understanding of the tool, particularly by the undergraduate students are highlighted.

The main role of such an element was to account for special connections such as welding features, bolts, and specifying very stiff regions within the structure of interest. Unfortunately, with the passage of time, the functionalities/capabilities of such powerful elements have faded from the commercial FEA software documentation. As a result, such elements are the least "understood" and most "widely abused" features by an average user. This paper tries to address such an element within the confines of the Catia v5 commercial software with emphasis on modal and dynamic calculations.

As the experimental study imposes great monetary and time cost, the numerical solution may provide a valuable alternative. This study emphasises on numerical analysis for optimization of stiffened and unstiffened plate's structural response subjected to air blast load. Linear and non linear finite element (FE) modeling and analysis was carried out and compared with existing experimental results. The obtained results reveal a good agreement between numerical and experimental observations. The presented FE models can eliminate confusion regarding parameters selection and FE operations processing, using commercial software available currently.

It is verified numerically that α3 satisfies Liouville's equation to an accuracy of one part in 1014, while α5 satisfies it to one part in 106. The construction of α5 is conditional upon solving ten nonlinear constraint equations. We analyze the complicated structures of α3 and α5 with the help of a three-dimensional plotting routine. It is found that α3 is, surprisingly enough, only characterized by a single ring singularity, while α5 exhibits three ring singularities. It is speculated that the function tanh α3 represents a ring soliton whose shape appears to be preserved in the nonlinear superposition of similar ring solitons. The derivation of Liouville's solutions α3 and α5 is intimately connected with the auxiliary functions β2 and β4 which solve Laplace's equation. The latter are also derived and plotted in the paper.

This research experimentally and numerically studies the energy absorption performance of a steering wheel armature in contact with a deformable chestform (bodyform) during a collision. Variations in the location of impact on the armature, armature orientation, and chestform impact velocity are considered

The key in this approach is to derive on upper bound for the residual associated with the boundary element solution and minimize this bound with respect to an unknown grading function. The latter part is achieved by employing techniques of the calculus of variations.
