The recommended management is wide local or radical excision, followed by surgical and prosthetic reconstruction. This article explains postsurgical prosthetic rehabilitation of a chondrosarcoma patient by means of intraoral acrylic, and extraoral silicone prosthesis for restoration of normal orofacial function and appearance.

However, patient with maxillofacial defect experiences unique alterations in the normal oral environment, which have negative impact on the psychological disposition of patients. In this aspect, Maxillofacial Prosthetics aim to attain the optimal/suboptimal functions, such as speech and swallowing. This case report presents an interim prosthesis fabrication with an immediate approach to cover defect created by missing tissue to regain optimal/suboptimal functions.

Rarely, these ranulas may arise independent of oral swelling. A rare case of plunging ranula without oral swelling is discussed along with review of literature.

Following detailed clinical examination, radiological and histopathological interpretation, a diagnosis of plunging ranula was made. Ranula is a retention cyst of the sublingual gland which enlarges progressively and extends into the surrounding soft tissues. Surgical excision was performed along with the involved sublingual gland. The patient was followed up on a regular basis and showed no recurrence.

Appropriate evaluation and elimination of potential source of dental infection before radiation therapy is warranted. The best management strategy involves both prophylactic local and systemic combination therapy that promote high standards of oral care. Hence this paper provides an insight on strategic oral management.

The functional and aesthetic replacement of lost natural hard and soft tissue via dental implant and its restorative components is in common practice now days. Placement of dental implant without considering these anatomical changes leads to malpositioning in vertical, mesial/distal, and/or facial/lingual plane. It is a challenge to re-establish soft tissue contour during the restorative process. This clinical report presents use of custom fabricated healing abutment to restore the gingival form in a malaligned dental implant.

As gingival biotype has been classified into thick and thin, their applicability into various diagnostic, surgical procedures are hence, must to redaction. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview on gingival biotype and application of available knowledge into practicality.

This does not imply that, one should concentrate only on the oral and dental aspects of aging. On the contrary we should examine and treat the patient as a whole and not his isolated oral and dental problems. As Of the primary importance to the prosthodontists are the effects of systemic aging changes on the oro-dental and associated structures. The paper summarizes in brief the degenerative changes contributing to the senescence.

Restoration of facial defects is a challenge. The replacement of missing parts such as a nose, eye, ear or the construction of a device to rebuild facial or cranial contour requires the expertise and precision in clinical skill and utilization of available materials. The primary objectives in each case are to construct a prosthesis which will restore the defect, improve aesthetics and function and thereby benefit the morale of the patient. In order to achieve these objectives a maxillofacial Prosthodontist must know how to make accurate impressions of the defects. The precision in the impression making is the first and the most crucial step in successful rehabilitation of maxillofacial defect. This book highlights the simple, basic but important factors to be taken into consideration, during impression making of various maxillofacial prostheses.

A variety of physiologic and psychosocial changes occur with aging that detrimentally impact nutritional status and general health of geriatric denture population. An understanding of nutritional status, requirement and systemic/oral factors influencing nutrition intake will assist dental clinician in identifying the risk and further referring to dietician. This paper provides an overview on the factors affecting nutritional status, and the phases of assessment of nutritional status of geriatric denture population. Hence, it is recommended that dietary analysis and counselling should be integral part of comprehensive geriatric denture population assessment

This is a technology based evolution with transition from two dimensional to three dimensional imaging in the maxillofacial region. It is used in planning dental implant treatment as it assesses the bone and the hard dental tissue with respect to the quality and quantity. Hence, appropriate diagnosis at initial stages is important factors in determining the success of dental implants. This paper provides an overview based on assessment of ridge morphology, available bone quality and quantity and technology based guided implant placement.

However, in spite of available pre-prosthetic treatment approaches, such as various pre-prosthetic surgeries, and modern treatment approach such as dental implant therapy, as a means of improving the denture bearing foundation, fabrication of complete dentures using the neutral zone approach in case of atrophied residual ridge is the most utilized technique. As one of the prime objective of complete denture prosthodontics is to fabricate a virtually undetectable prosthesis that simulate harmonious positions and relationship with the adjacent tissue. This virtually undetectable 3-dimensional positioning of prosthesis can be easily achieved with neutral zone technique. This report describes a case of atrophic mandibular ridge using the neutral zone technique.
