Several researchers pointed out the benefits of learning collocations such as increasing learners' language competence, enhancing learners' communicative competence, and being toward native-like. So the aim of present study is to focus on investigating collocational error types made by the participants, in EFL learning, The issues for teachers during teaching collocations, the frequency of collocational errors, and the sources of collocational errors. The participants' perceptions of difficulty in collocations were also examined. Moreover, it attempts to find answers for these questions. What are instruction effects on learners' collocational competence? Which collocations need to be learned?) How should we teach collocations in the classroom? Hence, collocational knowledge is essential for EFL learners and collocation instruction in EFL courses is required for every teacher or student who is dealing with English.

In the present world, with the huge amount of cultural exchanges between nations and countries ha... more In the present world, with the huge amount of cultural exchanges between nations and countries happening, Literary Translation can act as a very useful approach toward introducing our native culture to the world and finding a proper place for ourselves within the global multicultural relations. The importance of this research is in providing the translators with a deep insight into preserving meaning as the basic part of a message and to transfer the cultural elements attached to deictic expression during translation.In this case study the researcher has found the deictic expressions inside a Persian version of Hafiz poetry (Divan) and then has examined their translations in two other English versions, analyzing the information gathered in order to find the sources of errors. Then attempts have been made to find solutions for them and finally present a pattern or some general formulas for the adopted strategies.

In order to find their answers the authors conducted a course of advanced translation using the traditional blackboard where students were only allowed to use paper dictionaries and conducted the same course in another class where data projectors and PowerPoint slides were used and students were allowed to bring all sorts of electronic devises and tools to the class including laptop and digital dictionaries. At the end of both courses students sat a test in order to see which method has been more successful. Students were also given a questionnaire to see which method is more appealing to them and motivates them more. Translation is one of the major contributing factors in the development of science and technology especially in non-English speaking countries. The reason is that an understanding of the flood of the new science and technology in these countries is gained mostly through translated texts. It is an open secret that providing translators who are the link between the world's science and technology and the university students with a teaching approach capable of capable of stimulating their internal talents and motivations is of prime importance. A major part of the teaching approach is the facilities used in the process of teaching. Today teachers have lots of new technologies, electronic instructional and communicational technologies at hand that are deemed as basis for institutional reforms and powerful agents for the development of new teaching strategies and material. Moreover, nowadays lots of pedagogues, psychologists, teachers and politicians are worried about the level of knowledge of the young people and wonder if they can keep up their steps with the development of science and technology.

Theoretical model was the translator trainer profile proposed by The European Master’s in Translation (EMT) Group, including fundamental requirements, instructional competence, assessment competence, field competence, organizational competence, and interpersonal competence. Initial codes were extracted from the interview data and subsumed under the existing subcategories of the framework or formed new categories. Subcategories were, then, analyzed and subsumed under the existing main categories or caused new subcategories to emerge. The difference of contexts entails different teaching methods, different attitudes and different students" needs. Teachers interact differently with these situations to meet these needs because their attitudes toward ELT contexts is not the same; some teachers are more experienced than others , some hold higher academic degrees , in addition, teachers may have been graduated from different universities , i.e., Islamic Azad and state-run universities. What may be the influence of these criteria on their attitudes toward teaching? Do these criteria contribute to their choice of teaching method and class activities in formal and informal teaching contexts? This investigation aims at designating differences among formal and informal language teaching contexts as well as teachers" perceptions of their roles and practices in these contexts.

To explore the effects of formative assessment on student engagement in classroom, 60 upper-inter... more To explore the effects of formative assessment on student engagement in classroom, 60 upper-intermediate level EFL students, were chosen out of a convenience sample of 120, using the Oxford Placement Test and were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. After the intervention, the students were asked to complete the Student Course Engagement Questionnaire. Independent sample t-test results using SPSS revealed that the difference between the two groups’ engagement scores was statistically significant and that formative assessment and feedback were highly correlated with students’ engagement. Results also indicated that formative assessment and meaningful feedback can facilitate teachers’ efforts to improve student engagement in classroom activities.

The present paper shows how short message (SMS), which is a popular mobile application among many people, can help EFL/ESL students learning English vocabulary. Firstly; we want to investigate the capabilities of this novel learning method, and students’ attitudes towards it. Victor Borge Researchers have shown that laughter is crucial to our health and that the use of humour in class can do something of a miracle. Teaching experience has shown that humour helps keeping students interested and motivated. Humour and laughter can also help less sociable students in language classes to participate with the group, to feel a part of the peer group, join class activities and group work without feeling exposed or vulnerable. This is of particular importance in a communicative classroom where the emphasis is on veritable oral communication, pair works and interaction. It's a way of getting those students involved in class activities who are worried or nervous to try and talk their minds in a foreign language (Provine, 2000). Kristmanson (2000) emphasizes the necessity of creating a hospitable atmosphere for language learning.The present paper shows the impact/s of using humour and laughter in creating a relaxed and open atmosphere for language learning, to get and hold students' attention, increase retention of what is learned, foster a constructive attitude towards mistakes, and stimulate both creative and critical thinking during a language classroom. Humour in language classes reduces tension, improves classroom atmosphere, increases enjoyment and has a positive impact on the student-teacher interactions.
