The behavior of four provenances of Eucalyptus brassiana S. T. Blake with 13 year of age was stud... more The behavior of four provenances of Eucalyptus brassiana S. T. Blake with 13 year of age was studied at Planaltina, Federal District, Brazil. The provenance 10976 from Laura, Queensland, showed the highest mean height (13.6 m), volume per hectare (117 m 3 ) and annual increment (9.0 m 3 /ha) of the study stand. Otherwise its survival percentage was the lowest (82%). The form of the plants of this provenance was the best even having 75% of its stems crooked. At the "Cerrados" of the Federal District the growth of E. brassiana is lesser than other Eucalyptus species; however it can be similar or better in regions of transition between "Cerrado" (savanna) and "caatinga" (semi-arid), therefore it is more suitable to be planted at semi-arid conditions. Tests with a larger number of provenances representing its natural distribution should be carried out in a larger number of sites mainly at the semi-arid region of Brazil.
O objetivo do presente trabalho foi caracterizar a madeira de Sclerolobium paniculatum Vogel, de ... more O objetivo do presente trabalho foi caracterizar a madeira de Sclerolobium paniculatum Vogel, de 18 anos de idade, oriunda de plantio homogêneo sob diferentes níveis de adubação localizado na Embrapa-Cerrados, DF, quanto à contração e às características mecânicas (flexão estática, compressão paralela às fibras e cisalhamento). Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas entre as médias das variáveis estudadas que apresentaram os seguintes valores: resistência máxima à flexão estática (ƒ b = 650kg/cm 2 ), módulo de elasticidade (E = 59.877kg/cm 2 ), resistência máxima à compressão axial (ƒ c = 296kg/cm 2 ) e resistência máxima ao cisalhamento (ƒ ν = 131kg/cm 2 ). Para cisalhamento e compressão axial, a testemunha apresentou o maior valor absoluto para MOR. A madeira de Sclerolobium paniculatum apresentou um elevado número de galhos, implicando uma elevada quantidade de nós. Os tratos culturais em plantios homogêneos de Sclerolobium paniculatum devem prever a retirada de galhos para produzir madeira de qualidade superior.
