The Southern area of Bangladesh is quite different from other parts of the country in terms of climate and topography. This study investigated the poverty and the socioeconomic condition of the people living in the southern area of Bangladesh from October 2023 to May 2024. The study used a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research methods. Data was collected from questionnaire surveys, direct observations, interviews, and focused group discussions with the respondents, and the data was analyzed using SPSS. About 45% of respondents had 6-8 family members, which had a significantly negative impact on the poverty level. Most of the people (about 59%) were totally illiterate to below SSC, which also has a strong negative significance on the poverty level. The profession category, safe food, sanitation and water supply status, monthly income, and expenditures of the respondents were also significantly related to the poverty level. The relationship between the overall indebtedness rate of the respondents and the poverty level was positive. However, the relationship between the social and economic improvements of the respondents and the poverty level, as well as the relationship between the GDP growth of the respondents and the poverty level, was negative. This study may help evaluate tactics and policies at the national level to alleviate poverty in the region.

The current study aims to investigate the level of English Language Listening Anxiety for Bengali... more The current study aims to investigate the level of English Language Listening Anxiety for Bengali medium students at the university level in Bangladesh. Listening anxiety is said to have a direct effect on listeners' abilities to comprehend what has been said. This is often because listeners think that the message is so complex that they will not be able to understand what they are listening to. In relevance to listening tests, students' listening anxiety may prove to be a variable that could affect their listening to any English texts and attending any test. This study investigates if Bengali medium students experience listening anxiety in English language classes or any English test. Here, to understand the anxiety level of the students in any listening situation, a survey form is used as the main data collection instrument. The survey comprised 20 questions, which were tested for reliability in this study. 104 undergraduate and postgraduate students from two private universities in Bangladesh participated in the survey. There is also a listening test conducted in two sessions to find out what environment can be helpful to improve the Bengali Medium students' listening skills. The findings indicated that the students have high level of listening anxiety.

LLs refer to the visible language elements in public spaces, such as shop signs, billboards, and advertisements. The research explores how the exposure to LLs can enhance students' vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and intercultural competence. To conduct this research, quantitative approach along with survey method have been followed. In case of survey, a questionnaire has been used as an instrument. The sample comprises 25 students from tertiary level which has been determined based on purposive sampling. The findings demonstrate that LLs play a significant role in language learning. Students frequently interact with LLs, gaining exposure to new vocabulary and grammatical structures. This exposure motivates them to use these elements in their academic and non-academic writing. Additionally, LLs can foster cultural understanding by familiarizing students with foreign words and customs. The study also emphasizes the value of LLs as a supplementary resource in language teaching. By incorporating LLs into teaching activities, educators can create engaging and effective learning experiences. The study concludes by advocating for the recognition and utilization of LLs to improve language learning in Bangladesh and beyond.

It still remains arguable despite diverse research studies on the aptness and efficacy of teaching methods. An action research is a popular research study applied in the field of education. It is directed towards solving a practicable problem. The problem in this study was the inefficacy of teaching through the lecture method. The prime objective of this article is to assess the efficiency of three teaching methods: lecture, discussion and lecture along with discussion. The sampling design was purposive and the sample size of this study consisted of entire 36 first-year bachelor of education students studying English education as a major subject at Makawanpur Multiple Campus, Hetauda, Nepal in the academic year 2023. They were taught eight lessons from their text book entitled "New Directions: Reading, Writing and Critical Thinking" for each method and 25 test items were asked to them after teaching each time. The study was carried out by adopting one-shot case study research design. This article winds up with the findings (lecture method: Mean = 9.64, observed t-value =1.233, and critical t-value =2.030 (discussion method: Mean = 13.78, observed t-value = 9.854 and critical t-value = 2.030, and (lecture with discussion method: Mean = 19.19, observed tvalue = 26.278 and critical t-value = 2.030) with df= 35 clearly depict that the lecture along with discussion method of teaching was the most effective one of these three methods with potential chances of carrying out action researches on the efficiency of other teaching methods.

Padma Nadir Majhi (Translation: The Boatman of the Padma River) was published in 1936, and Huxley's utopian manifesto Island was first published in 1962. Though there are cultural and social dissimilarities between the two classics' publishing contexts, the philosophical and transcendent aspects of the two novels have analogical dimensions. The authors used a qualitative approach with textual and document analysis to present a comparative scenario of utopian features in these writings. The analysis reveals that Moyna Dweep's inhabitants have eternal socioeconomic and hedonistic pursuits for material prosperity, and the natives of Pala Island mostly seek spiritual and intellectual fulfillment.

This has resulted in unemployment in Malaysia which are caused by an excess of graduates who are unable to find jobs that align with their educational skills. Communication Apprehension or fear of public speaking need to be addressed as it can become a hindrance of pursuing careers of interest. This opinion paper deals with the theoretical aspects of communication apprehension and its connections to theories that can identify probable solutions in a SouthEast Asia context. Findings show that there is a link among the following theories; communication apprehension (CA), affective filter hypothesis (AFH) and self-efficacy (SE) among others act as a foundation for a theoretical framework to create a public speaking teaching module to address communication apprehension.

To mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change, it is important to make young learners eco-conscious and include eco-friendly content in textbooks. Thus, the present research aimed to conduct an eco-critical discourse analysis of the grade five EFL textbook taught in Bangladesh. The qualitative study incorporated the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model by Fairclough (2013) and the framework of ecolinguistics by Stibbe (2015) as its theoretical underpinnings. The studyâs findings revealed that the discourses of the textbook were significantly ambivalent, only partially addressing the ecosophy of the analyst.

This research explores integrating Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles into postsecondary curricula to enhance students' communication skills. UDL is a pedagogical strategy that accommodates diverse learning styles, promoting active and engaged learning. This study reviews literature highlighting UDL's advantages in fostering communicative competence. A case study is presented where UDL principles-such as providing multiple methods of representation, action, expression, and participation-were incorporated into a university course's communication tasks. The intervention improved students' self-assurance, fluency, and interest in communication activities, addressing obstacles like language problems, learning disabilities, and cultural differences. The findings suggest that UDL integration in postsecondary curricula can enhance students' communication skills, with significant implications for educators, policymakers, and employers aiming to increase graduates' employability and support a diverse workforce. By learning UDL principles in higher education, students can be better prepared for the competitive global job market, where strong communication skills are increasingly valued.

Sylvia Plath was an American poet whose works are critically presented with references to her existential angst and feminism. It unleashes not only her agony at a private level but also portrays the anguish of women at large and of Holocaust victims. For the "I" voice of the speaker, she created the voice of the women with whom she shares solidarity. Plath effectively and cynically blends her existential anxiety with feminism to depict the appalling conditions that women faced during the Cold War era. The critique employs a qualitative approach using the content analysis method to theoretically present the related issues on the topic.

This study diverges from previous research that mostly focuses on the objectification of women in TV commercials (TVCs). Instead, it aims to investigate resistance within three femvertising contexts: Taza tea, Freedom sanitary napkin and Sunsilk shampoo. This qualitative study reveals an intricate and diverse landscape of advertising by utilizing content analysis (CA) and critical discourse analysis (CDA). By combining CA and CDA, the study provides a comprehensive semiotic analysis of femvertising in Bangladeshi TV advertisements. This approach allows to explore both the visual and textual elements while critically examining the discourses and ideologies surrounding gender and feminism in these ads. Although there is some opposition in how female figures are spoken and depicted, the study shows that stereotypes persist in these advertisements' overall context and persuasive facets.

As theoretical framework, Larry Selinker's "Interlanguage" (1972) and Stephen Pit Corder's "Interlanguage with Error Analysis" (1981) theories have been adopted to establish the aim of this study. A mixed-method approach has been applied to conduct the current study. A questionnaire survey and the interview tools have been used for collecting the primary data. The researchers have collected data from 200 respondents from two public and two private universities in Khulna City. The primary findings of this study indicate that in this age of internationalization, EFL learners believe that their mother tongue interference has a negative impact on their oral performances and it stands as a barrier to learning the target language. However, mother tongue interferences are natural and irresistible but the study has focused on the EFL learners' perceptions of the influence of L1. Finally, the study concludes with a positive hope for the EFL learners to have a balance between L1 and L2.

Unmatched in all literary genres worldwide, author Doris Lessing depicts both the societal structure of her age and the basic issues facing women. Lessing looks for fresh ways to portray the experiences of a woman writer who is stuck. She was raised in Africa, developed into an engaged but disillusioned communist, is a politically engaged writer, and occasionally she even plays the role of a mistress or wife. This qualitative study focuses on how Lessing aims to portray, via her astute and nuanced approach, the psychological struggles that women have while balancing marriage and love, motherhood and career, the injustice of double standards, the isolation that single career women experience, and the hollowness of marriage in the eyes of society and the established order. Through her feminist works, she attempts to rouse the women's community to fight against patriarchy. Lessing portrays her female characters with various societal issues and male-female perspectives.

Like English literature, Bangla literature is also known for its cultural and social depth. Several Bengali and English writings show the flaws of male characters who are somewhat not perfect and possess few habits that lead them to their downfall in the mainstream of the story. It looks at how their flaws affect their personalities, relationships, and growth as characters. In English writing, on the other hand, male protagonists also have flaws that add to their depth and complexity. But some problems keep coming up, like being too proud, not having enough emotional intelligence, and keeping toxic manhood alive. The way these flaws are shown can sometimes support gender stereotypes and stop characters from growing. The paper looks at the social and historical background of Bangla literature, focuses on a few flawed male characters, and compares them to similar characters in English literature. The results show how these flaws affect, how masculinity is shown, how characters grow, and how society affects them in each literary style.

This thematic poem is composed by Ron Padgett. The authors used textual and thematic analysis to interpret the poem from various literary perspectives to generate significant literary criticism on the Padgett's poem. The paper depicts different tones of the poet in the poem that communicate shock, panic, hysterical calls, comprehension, acceptance, and resentment. However, the poet's emotion is almost in vain as the poem's meaning relates to how meaningless life may be while pursuing things that are not there.
