Dr Lasrado is a recognised industry leader with an extended skill set in the area of business excellence and innovation. The value of Dr Lasrado’s dedicated efforts to contextualize quality practices in the region has been recognised in both her professional award from the American Society of Quality(ASQ) and Fellowship status with the Higher Education Academy,UK. Through her cutting edge research in field of business excellence and innovation field, she has authored several books that are published by international publishers, such as Springer Germany, IGI global, Palgrave UK and Routledge UK.As a future-thinking academic with a passion for teaching and learning, Dr Lasrado vows to develop her students to be knowledge hubs who will see learning as a lifelong journey. Globalised economies have increased competition for organisations, so managers are under enormous... more Globalised economies have increased competition for organisations, so managers are under enormous pressure to improve performance and remain ahead of competitors. In this conceptual paper, we consider a range of factors that improve the likelihood of organisations attaining peak performance. We focus on factors associated with people employed in the organisation. The people enablers mainly stem from three perspectives, namely competency, motivation and opportunity, arranged as a People Performance Prism. There are other organisational enablers that have an impact on performance. These additional factors are named People Enablers and Organisational Enablers; these factors are arranged into a model to show how they contribute to peak performance in organisations.

Design/methodology/approach Using a sample of quality managers, this study adopts a two-step methodological approach to explore the key components of TQM internalization via an initial exploratory study followed up with a quantitative study to examine the relationships between the proposed drivers using structural equation modeling. Design/methodology/approach The research methodology includes a multi-item scale questionnaire completed in three waves between 2016 and 2017, and later analysed in 2018. A final response rate of 29.5 per cent was obtained, representing 190 organisations from both manufacturing and service industries in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Partial least squares structural equation modelling was used to test the multi-collinearity, moderation and mediation analysis. Drawing upon an extracurricular university course on entrepreneurship, this work explores the dyn... more Drawing upon an extracurricular university course on entrepreneurship, this work explores the dynamics among human and social capital and four learning outcomes: entrepreneurial intentions, perceived behavioral control, entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and startup activities. Following a longitudinal perspective, the study examined those dynamics in a sample of 66 students. Findings reveal that the influence of human capital decreased by the end of the course, yet played a fundamental role in improving intention and startup activities at the beginning of the course. A different pattern emerged for social capital (e.g., having friends who work as entrepreneurs), which maintained its relevance in enhancing perceived behavioral control, entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and startup activities after the course. Total Quality Management (TQM) is a widely used management philosophy across many sectors. Organi... more Total Quality Management (TQM) is a widely used management philosophy across many sectors. Organisations implement TQM in order to gain competitive advantage in terms of quality, productivity, customer satisfaction, and profitability. However, the literature seems inconclusive about the positive effect of TQM on organisational performance. Several studies argue that the effect of TQM practices on organisational performance need to be evaluated in different social, cultural, and economic settings. The effect of national culture on TQM implementation is also gaining importance. Therefore, this study provides empirical evidence from a developing country of South Asia. This study was conducted in the context of textile companies of Pakistan. The data was collected from the member companies of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) by using a questionnaire. The questionnaires were sent to 210 textile companies and the respondents were quality or production managers. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used to investigate the relationship between TQM practices and organisational performance. The findings of this study indicate that TQM has a highly positive effect on organisational performance. These findings support the divergence argument which indicates that the positive effect of TQM on organisational performance is not limited only to the companies located in developed nations, but can also be equally achieved in the other parts of the world. All the TQM elements have positive relationship with financial and non-financial results. However, the element of people does not have significant relationship with financial and non-financial results.

Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to apply AHP in two case settings which include (i) evaluati... more Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to apply AHP in two case settings which include (i) evaluation/selection of maintenance policy (ii) sustainability factors of employee suggestion schemes. Methodology/Approach-The paper adopts a case study approach of selecting most appropriate maintenance policy and prioritizing factors for employee suggestion system. Several steps of the AHP method are used in both case settings to illustrate the application of the AHP method. Findings-This paper proposes (i) a framework for maintenance policy selection based on the AHP methodology and (ii) a framework to determine the importance of sustainability factors for employee suggestion schemes. The results of the first case setting suggest that total quality maintenance is the most suitable approach for a paper machine. In the second case setting, the findings suggest that five sustainability factors can be modelled according to their importance. Originality/Value-The paper contributes firstly to the literature by providing a framework for decision-making process regarding the maintenance policy selection. In addition, this paper utilizes an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart for performing a consistency test and a sensitivity analysis. Secondly, the paper proposes a framework to model the sustainability factors of employee suggestion scheme according to their importance level.
