The goal of this report is emphasizing the necessity and convenience of including the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) among the foundations of the development model for the new Burma.
In the first chapter of this report, we will learn about the context upon which we operate. The report briefly covers the most relevant events that have taken place in Myanmar, from its origin as an independent state in 1948 to the current period of transition towards democracy. Special attention will be paid to human rights violations and social conflicts so that CSR programs to be implemented in the region can focus on them. The last part of this chapter analyzes the most representative data of nowadays’ social-economic reality in Burma.
The second chapters’ aim is both the study of the pros and cons of investing in Burma and the analysis of some previous irresponsible FDI projects, as an example of what this report pretends to avoid in the future through the integration of CSR policies. Factors such as the opening political and economical reforms as well as its huge demographic and natural resources, turns Burma into a very attractive investment destiny. However, there are also risks and difficulties that should be considered by investors and that we cover in this section. In addition, we analyze the most polemical investment project ever done in Burma: The Yadana gas pipeline, promoted by the consortium of TOTAL S.A, Unocal Corp and the back-then military government of Burma.
Finally, the last chapter of this report clarifies the concept and advantages of CSR, and it also explains why it is essential to integrate it along FDI as the basis of the Burmese development model. The model for Myanmar should be economically profitable, but it should also benefit the Burmese community and environment. To that end, this report prepares a series of CSR proposals that corporations and the Burmese government could implement, without forgetting the necessary participation of all the involved stakeholders.

This catastrophe marked a turning point for Bangladesh Ready Made Garment industry: the government can no longer ignore the degrading and alarming working conditions of workers of this industry, and international labour rights advocacy initiatives gain strength and impulse to make those corporations supplying from Bangladesh to increase their commitment to the protection of labour rights.
