The common controversy is that woman is somehow lesser than man, and that Islam is a religion for men. However, Islam is the religion where equality of rights for both genders can be observed but, misinterpretation of the people has stereotyped the religion. As a result, not only non-Muslims but also Muslims (who are feminists) have maligned the picture of Islam. I anticipate that this paper will reflect the Islamic perspective and practices regarding gender equality, and this paper will try to emphasise on what western people said regarding gender equality This paper will also enlighten the roles of men and women in Islam, what are the duties given to them according to Quran and Hadith and how Islam equally treats them both. Finally, the paper will be concluded, provoking a serious attention to the present scenario of Islam so as to remove the misconception crept into the minds of pseudo scholars as well as the masses.
