Dans le cadre de la promotion de la langue amazighe, nous avons voulu lui apporter des ressources... more Dans le cadre de la promotion de la langue amazighe, nous avons voulu lui apporter des ressources et outils linguistiques pour son traitement automatique et son intégration dans le domaine des nouvelles technologies de l'information et de la communication. Partant de ce principe, nous avons opté, au sein de l'Institut Royal de la Culture Amazighe, pour une démarche innovante de réalisations progressives de ressources linguistiques et d'outils de base de traitement automatique, qui permettront de préparer le terrain pour d'éventuelles recherches scientifiques. Dans cette perspective, nous avons entrepris de développer, dans un premier temps, un outil de pseudoracinisation basé sur une approche relevant du cas de la morphologie flexionnelle et reposant sur l'élimination d'une liste de suffixes et de préfixes de la langue amazighe. Cette approche permettra de regrouper les mots sémantiquement proches à partir de ressemblances afin d'être exploités dans des applications tel que la recherche d'information et la classification.

The writing system, the morphology based on unique word formation process of roots and patterns, and the lack of linguistic corpora make computational approaches to Amazigh language challenging. In this paper, we give an overview of the current state of the art in Natural Language Processing for Amazigh language in Morocco, and we suggest the development of other technologies needed for the Amazigh language to live in "information society".

Current research, in Natural Language Processing, shows more interest in the under-resourced lang... more Current research, in Natural Language Processing, shows more interest in the under-resourced languages, during last years. Amazigh language is the autochthon language of North Africa. However, until 2011 that it became a constitutionally official language in Morocco, after years of persecution. Amazigh language is still considered as one of the under resourced languages. The question is: “how can the Amazigh language reach advanced languages?” Motivated by these considerations, we describe our effort in the development of an Amazigh-English parallel corpus aimed to be used in linguistic research, teaching, and natural language processing application, primarily machine translation. To the best of our knowledge, this corpus is the first Amazigh-English parallel corpus. The built corpus is sentence aligned, including 20726 sentences. The alignment was done automatically, while the evaluation was done manually. The experimentation results are satisfactory, achieving more than 90%.
