This unit has a capacity of 100 withdraws water from Shat Al-Arab River as a raw water having total dissolved solid (TDS) ppm, and consists of two stages with total recovery and salt rejection of about 60% and 95%, respectively. The first array contains twelve vessels and the second six vessels. Each vessel contains six elements, 8 inches in diameter and 40 inches in length. The performance of the reverse osmosis (RO) membranes is based on surveying the chemical analysis of different ions present in water for both permeate and rejected streams from the unit log book, and only those readings where the overall recovery was 60% were selected. The results depicted that the reduction of membrane efficiency is attributed to the membrane blockage due to ...

The main objective of this study is to predict the performance of multimedia filter and to evaluate both the initial and transient stage of suspended solid removal efficiency depending on experimental data. Fuzzy logic has been used to build a model of multi input and one output (MISO) for the removal efficiency of multimedia filter which it consists from sand and granular activated carbon (GAC) mediums. The control parameters of (FLC) of Sugeno model are seven parameters which are media depths, media grains size for both sand and GAC, filtration rate, diameter of suspension particle, feed concentration, and operation time. The output parameter is removal efficiency of media filter whereas these data are collocated from pilot scale deep bed filter, thus, the removal efficiency of filter was modeled by 575 rules as a function of different control parameters. An adaptive of neuron fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) had used to simulate the experimental data. The simulation results were evaluated using mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), whereas the results showed that the prediction of ANFIS model has a good agreement with experimental data when the MAPE is equal to 7.0458 and fuzzy rule-based modeling proved a reliable and flexible tool to study the performance of multimedia filter. The conclusion showed that there is a relationship between flow rate, effective size and optimum bed depth for all filter media, the increment of effective size generates a higher value of optimum filter bed depth for a lower value of filtration rate. It was concluded that the optimal removal efficiency (95-100) achieved by (0.5-0.7 mm) grain size of sand, (1.5-1.9) mm grain size of granular activated carbon (GAC), with media depths should range from 0.3 to 0.6 m.

The study was conducted in a pilot plant at the University of Basrah, College of Engineering, which has a capacity of 9 m3/h. The plant is comprised of two parallel vessels containing five elements for each vessel, 8" in diameler and 40" in length. The first vessel has Saehane membranes, type RE8040BE-400 t~ manufactured in South Korea. Koch membranes, type 8822-XR-365 tt: made in the US, were used in the second vessel. The pilot plant uses brackish water from the Tigris River with TDS <600 ppm. The new type of RO membranes (Saehane) were used for the first trial for production of desalted water from brackish water less than 600 ppm and the results were compared with performance of the Koch membranes. It was found that over 180 days of continuous operation, the amount of permeate for Saehane membranes is larger than Koch membranes by about 26%. It was also observed that the quality of permeate water stream for Koch membranes is less than for the Saehane membranes by about 11%.

In the first step, the efficiency of the de-aerator system will be specified, and then the capability of improving the rate of dissolved gas removal by using professional types of packing will be evaluated. In the second step, the examination of the sedimentation tank performance will be tested, by using the jar test, and then the best chemical additives concentration will be specified. This work is done at the water desalination plant at Basrah University, in southern Iraq. The plant has a capacity of 9 m 3 /h and uses Koch membranes, model 8822-HR. The results show that the rate of dissolved gas removal can be improved when the area of contact between the gas and liquid streams is increased by using the professional types of packing. Also, the accuracy of chemical dosing for polyelectrolyte and ferric chloride in the sedimentation section improves the performance of the pretreatment section and reduces the chemical additives consumption. The backwash processes for sand filters and the period of replacement for fine filters has been improved after regulating the methods of separations.

The analysis of every component in the system apart was tested in accordance with the first and second law of thermodynamics was one of the main goals of this study will explain and estimate the sites which have exergy losses. This analysis offers a substitute plan to make sure greater performance of a power plant for two parts in electricity and yield of pure water.

In Iraq and especially in Basra city, there is a significant increase in power and pure water demand. Gas turbine power plant, dual purposes systems have submitted good acceptance for power generation especially in recent years. This heat engine discards huge amount of heat energy to the atmosphere as exhaust gases. The most wide use improvement is adopting a combined cycle arrangement. However, utilization the discarded thermal energy to produce pure water seems to be good option especially in Basra city. Producing the pure water could be done using multi stage flash distillation system (MSF) technique that driven by steam. The heat recovery boiler is used to produce the steam from the exhaust gases. The availability of steam offers a fine way to improve the duty of the gas turbine using steam injection method. This papers investigate various configurations of gas turbine combined cycle power plants GTCC and evaluate thermally both the feasibility of coupling with multi stage flash (MSF) and using steam injection method to enhance the performance of gas turbine engine. Energy and exergy principles will be used to describe the theoretical models for the configuration. The analysis developed in the study will be applied to a specified gas turbine power plant that operates in Basra city as a case study.
