The results are the focus of mature evaluation systems, which look at the intended, implemented, and achieved learning outcome. As a result, faculty members in all science courses conduct direct and indirect assessments of course outcomes. Hence, in-depth analysis of these assessments was done in this study which sole purpose is to introduce improvements in instructions and assessments which can generally be called pedagogy. To meaningfully delve into the breath of this research, mixed methodology was used, with the results of the direct and indirect assessments being administered to students taking General Botany and Zoology and supported by the documentary analysis, interview, and focus gro...

This is to cope with the qualifications and standards of 21st -century learners and to produce globally competitive professionals. The focus of this study was to assess the implementation of OutcomesBased Science Instruction (OBSI) for Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science students of the Teacher Education Institutions(TEI) in Batangas province. It delved into OBSI implementation which refers to learning outcomes, authentic tasks, student-centered approach, and competencies and skills. The study also determined the extent to which OBSI develop students’ competencies relative to laboratory activities, portfolio, project making, research, and investigatory project. The problems encountered in the implementation of OBSI also identified. The descriptive method of research applied in the stu...

It developed students' competencies in laboratory activities and investigatory project to a great extent. On the other hand, it developed students' competencies in the portfolio, project making, and research to a moderate extent. There was a significant relationship between the implementation of OBSI and the development of students' science competencies. Some problems encountered in OBSI were seldom met, primary of which is the unavailability and insufficiency of equipment, materials, and supplies needed in the laboratory. Proposed outcomes-based activities in science shall further enhance the quality of science instruction. It was recommended that the OBSI in the TEI may be strengthened to maximize the students' competencies and the development of an assessment tool to measure the development of students' science competencies may be undertaken. Furthermore, the future researchers may conduct studies that may be related to the current study in another research locale.

Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) is a curricular approach whose goal is to produce globally competitive 21 st-century learners. The study focused on the obstacles of the OBE implementation. Specifically, this aimed to define OBE operationally, to identify the barriers of OBE implementation, and to formulate an adaptive management plan for quality implementation of OBE. The descriptive mixed method of research was applied in the study. The interview was made and a validated questionnaire was used as the data gathering instrument. The researchers interviewed ten (10) science teachers from different colleges or universities about the OBE context. The interview is recorded with the approval of the respondents and was treated with the utmost confidentiality. For a clear interpretation of the data, the researchers used transcription, manual and thematic coding, and NVivo for the qualitative part of the study. Forty science teachers served as the respondents in the assessment of the barriers of OBE implementation. The results revealed the themes such as OBE as a process, a curricular approach, a student-centered approach, in need of time and materials, preparation for students' lifelong learning, and grounded on outcomes. The barriers moderately met in OBE implementation were insufficient means and materials for laboratory work; and an unestablished institution's outcomes-based teaching and learning delivery system. The proposed adaptive management plan for quality implementation of OBE shall further enhance the quality of science instruction. The school may adopt the curricular framework which efficiently reflects the processes involving the OBE teaching and learning aspects. The outcomes-based activities may be reviewed by academic chairpersons or science coordinators prior to the implementation

Outcomes-Based Education involves the restructuring of the entire education system to produce globally competitive professionals with the qualifications and standards of 21 st-century learners. The study used SWOT analysis conducted among the science teachers to assess the Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) in terms of the vision, mission, goals, and objectives, faculty, curriculum and instruction, support to students, research, extension and community involvement, library, facilities, laboratories, and administration; to improve science instruction using OBE, and to formulate strategies drawn from the analysis. The descriptive qualitative method of research using a validated semi-structured questionnaire was used in this study. The researchers administered a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to eight (8) science teachers who graduated in the same institution but are connected to different colleges or universities. The FGD was recorded with the approval of the respondents and was treated with the utmost confidentiality. For a clear interpretation of the data, the researchers used transcription, manual and thematic coding, and NVivo. Several themes emerged from the data analysis such as shared vision, the essentiality of time and materials; science pedagogies; science competencies and skills; and commitment and readiness. The SWOT results revealed that the improvement and success of OBE are dependent on the collaborative effort of the whole institution. Science teachers may be encouraged to attend more OBE seminars/training and workshops, integrate contextualization and localization, and strengthen the teaching strategies to improve science instruction. Passionate, dedicated, and committed science teachers are vital in the success of OBE in science education.

The best safety effort will involve all aspects of the child's school, including classroom instruction, school services, and school climate. The focus of this study was to assess the critical safety concerns of Bauan Technical High School, Batangas, Philippines as perceived by the senior high students. Schools are expected to comply with all applicable laws, rules, and standards relating to safety. The study determined the gender and age of the respondents. It also assessed the perception regarding school critical safety along with the school policy, comprehensive safety plan, school building, school grounds, procedures in handling visitors, emergency communication, transportation rules and accident procedures, illegal activities, respect for persons, and getting help. Among the 10 safety concerns, handling visitors was observed to a very great extent while illegal activities were observed to a less extent. The descriptive method of research was applied in the study with the questionnaire as the data gathering instrument. The findings were derived from the responses of the 100 senior students comprised of 59% male and 41% female teenagers whose age ranges from 15 to 18 years old. Procedures in handling visitors had the highest average which was observed to a very great extent and the other safety concerns were observed to a great extent while illegal activities were observed to a less extent. A proposed school safety activity shall further enhance the school safety program. In general, the school implemented critical safety measures in different concerns under the parameter of this study. High commitment to different safety concerns must be continued and emergency procedure in case of bomb threat may be strengthened. Future researchers may continue this study with teachers and administrators as the respondents and may conduct studies that may be related to the current study in another research locale.
