Papers by Xenia Mastoraki
By introducing a three-step framework focused on resource efficiency, reuse targets, and life cycle analysis, the paper offers a practical roadmap for landscape architects aiming to reduce environmental impact. This approach bridges gaps in existing research on sustainable design practices in the construction industry, highlighting actionable strategies for achieving social and environmental sustainability.
‘EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030’ is one of the most ambitious tools for the European Union towards those goals, and landscape architects do play a crucial role in restoring and protecting Nature. Here, we can take a closer look into some of the most important measures our profession can take into consideration, in order to contribute towards a more resilient planet and a healthier society.
Landscape architects have the knowledge and ability to understand and promote a smart planning of land management, may it be urban, peri-urban, agricultural or rural, assessing the quantitative “health and safety” aspects.
Forest design in order to avoid fire risk should focus on two main objectives:
• Provide reduced fuel coverage
• Fire suppression and area evacuation
