The LOQ has two forms: one is self-rated by principals, and the other is addressed to school teachers to rate their principals on two dimensions: behaviour and leadership. This study is divided into two parts. The subjects involved in part one of the study were 8 school principals and 158 school teachers drawn from four schools of which three were private fee-paying in Mount-Lebanon and one public school situated in Beirut, while the subjects involved in part two of the study were 2 school principals and 40 school teachers from two different schools. The study used the LOQ and a structured interview to gather data on the leadership styles of school principals. Pilot study results showed that this kind of research was comparable to Bolman and Deal's (1991) study and useful to gain understanding of the leadership style of school principals as received by both the principals themselves and school teachers. Both quantitative and qualitative data analyses were conducted. Main results showed that the principals rating was the most as human resource frame. As to teacher ratings of the principals in relation to leadership frames, the principals were rated the highest on structural frame in Section I and Section II. Moreover, the results of part two were similar to those of part one of the study. The study concluded with recommendations addressed to school principals, teachers, education policymakers, and researchers interested in furthering the understanding of leadership styles in educational contexts in Lebanon. Such styles have clear implications on how school affairs are internally managed.

Specifically, Writing Center tutors meet with students by appointment to provide them with direct feedback on their work. Because this is a relatively new center with a limited capacity, tutors may not always be able to provide students with one-on-one appointments. According to Al Chibani, Ghosn Chelala, and Hindi (2011), collaborative networking can be used to motivate students by providing direct feedback to students on their writing. This paper explores how such an approach may be received and utilized at the NDU Writing Center. The findings indicate that this approach would be positively received and can ameliorate the problem of feedback clarity and limited capacity.

Study participants were nine teachers who met weekly three hours for three consecutive months. The study investigated the impact of teacher training programs on teachers’ knowledge of new teaching methodologies adapted from the American context. The findings show that the teaching program was beneficial since it introduced the teachers to different new teaching methodologies and allowed them to shift from classical classroom methodologies to non-classical ones. Moreover, the program influenced all of the participants’ teaching skills in terms of introducing them to different theorists, which helped while developing lesson plans and taking into consideration students with special needs. This was reflected t...

Authors particularly dwell on English language articles published in scientific and methodical journal Eurasian Journal of Philology: Science and Education recommended by the Committee for Control of Education and Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (CCES MES RK) in the period from 2010 to 2019 years. Due to the quantitative method, the high tendency of publishing English language articles has been identified in the journal Eurasian Journal of Philology: Science and Education. As a result it is evident that in the academic setting English is sharply becoming the lingua franca as a means of exchanging scientific data and fixing the main results of research. Feedback is traditionally paper-based; it may be highly structured (i.e., scoring rubrics and keywords) to loosely structured (i.e., instructor commentary). Selecting new and more effective approaches for provision of feedback merits further exploration. This paper explores shifting to screen-capture and audio feedback in video form for freshman writing classes, with a particular interest in student perception of this approach along with impact on student performance and the possibility of facilitating extensive feedback.

Collaborative computing: a toolset for student motivation in esl courses
The concern of educational leaders for finding ways to motivate students to achieve learning goal... more The concern of educational leaders for finding ways to motivate students to achieve learning goals is addressed in this problem based learning (PBL). Much research on education and teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) addresses the need for effective instructional approaches to engage and motivate students with a view to enhancing learning. Specifically, this project focused on building understanding how collaborative computing may be used with recommended teaching approaches in ESL courses to enhance student engagement and motivation. This was done with a view to incorporating a new component into the NDU ESL syllabus which may become effective when all stakeholders participate in its formation. To learn more about how students may be engaged and motivated in ESL courses, an extensive Knowledge and Information Search was conducted. The views of NDU students and teachers pertaining to ESL courses within a blended milieu utilizing computer networking are also considered. This ...

The sample of this study is a selected mid-sized and mid-eastern state university in America, and the participants are five university teachers teaching five different university classes of several levels.

Design/methodology/approach This case study focused on an EFL remedial writing class consisting of eight Lebanese, Arabic L1 students at a private university in Lebanon. Students received screencast feedback through Jing® for one essay intended to assist them with subsequent revision. The multimodal screencast videos included indirect corrections, annotations, and oral commentary guided by a rubric. Students then completed a perspectives survey on screencast feedback. The instructor also led an informal group discussion to allow for further elaboration of students’ responses. Findings Students reported that screencasting’s multimodality provided for better engagement and support of learning preferences. They also perceived screencast feedback to be clearer and more useful t...

In addition, it was set to discuss and evaluate the programs given by these universities. Finally, it was set to synthesize and analyze different tools that could be applied on the quality services these universities have. The sample of this study is two private universities in Lebanon where interviews were conducted separately with 6 deans, 6 chairpersons, and 6 coordinators. In addition to the universities, plenty of information was taken directly from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education of the Republic of Lebanon. Thus, qualitative data analyses were conducted. Main results showed that one of the main aims of both universities is to get new students registered and have better quality of education. They always take into consideration the quality audit, control, and ranking, which allow them to be ranked from the top ...

This study compares between the progress performance of students who come regularly to the Writing Center to work one-to-one with the same tutor and use the online tutorial services to students who don’t visit the Writing Center, but only depend on the traditional classroom instructions and direct instructor’s comments and feedback on the writing. This study is divided into two parts. As a start, 80 students were asked to write two in-class essays on two different days. Each of these essays was considered as draft one. Then, in the first part of the study, 58 students sat twice per week one-on-one with the same tutor in order to seek help before writing draft two for the two essays. 29 students met face-to-face with the tutors and the other 29 students worked on-line with the tutors. Whereas, the other 22 students were as...
