The most commonly isolated genera are: Bacteriodes spp., Porphiromonas spp., Fusobacterium spp. and Prevotella spp. The following genera were isolated somewhat less frequently: Tanerella spp., Leptotricha spp., Veilonella spp.,Wollinela spp., Selenomonas spp. and Treponema spp. Anaerobic bacteria have an anaerobic type of metabolism and therefore their incubation is significantly longer and more demanding than aerobic bacteria. The genera Prevotella spp., Porphyromonas spp. and Fusobacterium spp. are part of the resident flora of the oral cavity and in unfavorable conditions cause periodontal diseases, and sometimes dentogenic infections and systemic diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases and inflammatory bowel diseases. The three most important steps for the successful diagnosis of anaerobic bacteria are: proper sampling with avoiding sample contamination, rapid transport of samples to the microbiological laboratory and proper handling of samples. A combination of beta-lactam with the addition of beta-lactamase inhibitors, metronidazole, clindamycin and moxifloxacin is used for treatment for infections caused by anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria. It is important to note that antibiotics should be used only with a clear indication and to choose the right antibiotic in the optimal dose. The aim of this review is to point out the role of Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria in periodontal diseases, and its isolation, identification and antibiotic susceptibility.

Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the possibility of applying the hyperlight fluid fu... more Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the possibility of applying the hyperlight fluid fusion essential complex in dental plaque control, and to evaluate the effectiveness of new and modern agents used for the prevention and early treatment of gingivitis. Methodology: The study included 60 subjects randomly divided into two groups. The control group was assigned to 0.12% chlorhexidine (CHX) mouth rinse, whereas the test group used a solution based on hyper-harmonized hydroxylated fullerene water complex (3HFWC), twice daily for 2 weeks. The plaque, gingivitis and bleeding scores were evaluated and recorded. Collected plaque samples were seeded on blood agar and incubated aerobically at a temperature of 37 °C for 24-48 hours. In order to isolate anaerobic bacteria, samples were seeded on Schaedler Agar and incubated anaerobically at 37 °C for seven days. Serial dilutions in saline from 10 1-10 6 were made, and grown colonies were counted and identified using the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF) system. Results: The reduction in the number of bacteria was significant in both control and test groups. The reduction was greater in the control group compared to the experimental group, but without statistically significant difference. Conclusions: 3HFWC treatment causes significant reduction in the number of dental plaque microorganisms. Since 3HFWC solution exhibited a bacteriostatic effect similar to chlorhexidine it could be an adequate addition to solution of a growing problem in prevention and early treatment of gingivitis and periodontitis.

Metabolic syndrome includes an amalgam of biochemical disorders: increased blood pressure, blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, increased triglycerides and cholesterol levels. Although there are several Metabolic syndrome definitions today with different criteria for setting diagnosis, its significance is not reduced. Early detection and adequate treatment will prevent the occurrence of metabolic syndrome complications. The aim of this paper is to critically compare different criteria for diagnosing metabolic syndrome, bearing in mind that there are no unified positions for defining this for life dangerous and highly represented syndrome.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of different radiopacifiers o... more Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of different radiopacifiers on the physicochemical and biological properties of novel calcium silicate based endodontic ceramic enriched with bioactive nano-particulated hydroxyapatite – ECHA. Namely, ECHA was used as a basis for mixing with the following radiopacifiers: strontium fluoride (SrF2), zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) and bismuth oxide (Bi2O3). For comparison, Portland cement (PC) and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) were used. The following physicochemical characteristics were examined: the radiopacity, setting time, compressive strength, porosity, wettability and pH value. The biocompatibility of the cements was assessed by crystal violet, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and cell adhesion assays. The highest radiopacity was obtained for the ECHA + Bi2O3 mixture and MTA that were statistically significant in comparison to other materials (p 0.05). We aimed to provide data on predictors of poor adherence to medication in hypertensive patients in Serbia. Methods: Observational, analytical study was undertaken at a group of 388 patients who refilled their medications in the Pharmacy Institution, “Apoteka Kragujevac”, Kragujevac, Serbia between Jan and Mar 2019. Afterward, we conducted a case-control study to evaluate the influence of the variables associated with the adherence. We used a self-developed questionnaire and SF-36 to assess the influence of the quality of life on medication adherence. Results: Results revealed four independent predictors of non-adherence: increased number of medications, living in a city, forgetfulness of the dosing regimen and low energy. Implant placement with simultaneous bone augmentation presents procedure with high risk of complications. In those situations, one of the surgical procedures with promising outcomes is the split crest technique. Case report. A 69-year-old edentulous patient was referred to the Clinic of Oral Surgery, at the Faculty of Dentistry in Pancevo. The width of the mandibular alveolar ridge in the inter-canine region was 2 mm. For the ridge splitting and expansion, a special split and expansion kit was used (Esset KitR, Osstem, South Korea). The procedure started with crestal remover carbide cylindrical bur of 7 mm diameter for flattening of the alveolar ridge to the width of 4 mm. Then, a sharp lance drill was used to mark the places for implant osteotomies and placement. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of probable bruxism in a sample of dental students in Serbia and to estimate the potential association between psychological factors related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the presence of bruxism. A cross-sectional study included 178 dental students in Serbia, who were interviewed using a specially-designed self-administered online questionnaire, which consisted of three sections, and after that, a clinical examination for the presence of bruxism symptoms in the oral cavity. Psychological status was evaluated using the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) and the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S). Saliva samples were taken to analyze salivary cortisol levels. We present here a rare phenomenon of four, molariform mesiodentes in a systemically healthy, non-syndromic patient, with non-contributory family history, causing delayed eruption of permanent, upper, central incisors. Multiple supernumerary teeth can be an important component of distinctive disorders and a valuable clue for their early diagnosis. However, this case highlights the importance of non-hereditary factors in the pathogenesis of multiple supernumerary teeth in a non-syndromic patient.

However, the use of sodium hypochlorite may cause destruction of blood vessels, soft tissues and bone necrosis if extruded into the periapical region. Urgent treatment of the NaOCl accident should be oriented on pain relief, infection control and recovery. This paper shows a case of periradicular tissue necrosis after accidental extrusion on NaOCl through fausse route of right maxillary canine, and complete tissue regeneration after surgical debridement and bone augmentation with addition of platelet rich fibrin (PRF) that occurred in a 53-year old patient at the dental clinic of Faculty of Dentistry in Pancevo.

The aim of this report is to present a patient having two neighbouring infra-occluded teeth in the right mandible indicated for extraction prior to prosthetic rehabilitation, which were coronectomied as to prevent injuring of the IAN and causing iatrogenic fracture of the mandibular body. Patient’s report: Coronectomy of both teeth was performed as recommended in literature, and the patient did not have any special discomfort after the operation or deficit in sensitive nerve function, and the wound healed uneventfully. There are many questionnaires for that purpose. SF 36 with 8 domains has been proved as one of the most appropriate. To date, there was no translated and validated SF 36 in the Serbian language for hypertensive patients. The aim of this study was to test validity and reliability of the SF-36 in Serbian patients with diagnosed arterial hypertension. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was calculated to assess the internal consistency of the Serbian version of the SF-36. After deducting the overlap between each of the 36 items and its related domain, the collective validity was considered to be good if the correlation coefficient remains > 0.4. Only 2.54% answers to the questions were missing. The values of all 8 domains were higher in men than in women. The aim of the study was to compare the retrograde obturation quality of the following materials: calcium silicate (Biodentine; Septodont, Saint-Maur-des-Fosses, France), mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA+; Cerkamed Company, Stalowa Wola, Poland), and glass ionomer cement (Fuji IX; GC Corporation, Tokyo, Japan).
