Religion makes authoritative claims about knowledge,life and attempts to solve the problems of li... more Religion makes authoritative claims about knowledge,life and attempts to solve the problems of life through faith.These claims ,however,demand obedience from mankind based upon a thin veneer of dogmatic epistemology that fails to pass the rationality tests of sound judgement and certain knowledge required by philosophy.As the precinct of the hallow and the sacred,religion futher demands obedience from the different professions and disciplines.The fate of mankind hangs on the balance and scale of dogmatic faith from where it derives all of its values,principles and ideas.As such,it has become relevant to re-evaluate the relationship between the ancient religious claim to rationality and the epistemological position of philosophy to enable mankind to know the true principles of dogma.From a philosophical analysis,no idea is immune from being subjected to either rational and metaphysical evaluation.The efforts in the past to evalauate the ideas of relion and dogma have led to a direct confrontation between religion and philosophy.The article will attempt therefore to evaluate the values and ideas claimed as authoritative by the sponsors of religion. Religion and philosophy emerged, after the confrontation, with a new discipline known as philosophy of religion. Furthermore,the relationship between religion and philosophy is worth further exploration and critical analysis to enable scholars to know and understand the fundamental claims of authority by religions.
