Despite this growth, some of the main disadvantages of this class of systems persist: the systems are complex and expensive to acquire, replace, maintain, or repair. This paper aims to show an approach that allows us to choose the right PACS for the needs of a particular group of hospitals and health care institutions. This choice takes into account the limitations of IT and business requirements.

This approach is well presented in today’s industrial control systems configurators. It has now extensive use also in embedded systems design and implementation. Unfortunately, the validation of the generated control systems usually is not part of the generating tool. Results of simulator implementation using the program generation approach and their validation are presented. Analyses of problems found and the steps for problem fixing are presented in the context of increasing the system model reliability. This paper also presents the validation of the program generation approach for design and implementation of object simulators and how the quality of the simulator can be increased using validation techniques.

The presented results are obtained under several projects. The work is aiming at increasing the quality of computer-assisted methods for diagnosis, based on digital X-ray images. Some techniques and solutions for reducing and removing defects in images are discussed. As a conclusion, some new problems and requirements for these systems have been pointed out. Keywords-computer-assisted methods; digital X-ray image; adaptive filtering algorithms

They are based on results obtained in the context of joint research with Medical University Sofia, requirements from other hospitals and discussions with industrial providers of such systems. We target investigations, design, organisation and future expansion of a hospital information system, new concepts and methods for continuous acquisition of patient's vital data, transmission, collection and binding of that data for diagnostic and disease tracking purposes, investigations on relevance of life quality and healthcare based on the e-Health technologies and medication and drug tracking. Some of these new investigations are oriented to build data mining background.

The results presented are oriented to increase the usability of digital photo cameras as a device for creating and/or digitalizing medical images. All activities are part of a DAPSEpro project "Medical data acquisition, processing and collection for e-Health solutions".

In the area of medical information collection, transportation, presentation, and analysis there are a lot of standards. Many of them contradict each other. The standardization in the area of data transfer between Hospital Information Systems and mobile devices is very complicated task. Standards selection and implementation is a hard process. This paper pretends to present some of the available standards concerning medical data exchange and how these standards can be followed and implemented in mobile solutions.

Each new PACS offers an extension of the existing possibilities by adding various “new” or “useful” functions or by changing the operating characteristics of the system (transfer speed, processing speed, the size of processed images, the volume of the archive, etc.). Despite this growing up, some of the main disadvantages of this class of systems persist: the systems are complex and expensive to acquire, replace, maintain, or repair. This paper aims to show an approach that allows us to choose the right PACS for the needs of a particular group of hospitals and health care institutions.

The low quality of images is one of the reasons for hypo- or hyper-diagnosis as a result of incorrect deciphering. One of the image applications is to track changes in patients’ organs and tissues over time. Screen-films and direct exposure films are part of medical image sources. The proposed paper presents a prototype of a new generation of medical image fil digitizer. The characteristics of such an apparatus and the necessary technologies for its implementation are considered.

The low quality of images is one of the reasons for hypo- or hyper-diagnosis as a result of incorrect deciphering. The proposed paper presents an extended version of our method for image quality enhancement based on the creation of a model of pseudo lighting. The method uses a single digital medical image to create a set of images by simulation different patient exposure conditions. This set of images is used to create our pseudo luminance model. In the final stage, the model is used to create a medical image with enhanced quality without medical artifacts.

The target of the presented preliminary tests and investigations are 3D teleconference and telepresence. This investigation is the result of joint work with physicians from the Medical University Sofia. Keywords-stereo 3D display; telemedicine; active glasses; passive glasses; autostereoscopy

In many cases the accuracy of diagnosis depends on the quality of the image. The investigation and development of new medical image processing methods and systems has received great attention over the last two decades. This is due to its wide range of applications in computerassisted methods and computer-aided methods. The proposed paper presents a new image enhancement method for X-ray images. The method uses an HDR-image creation as a technique to increase the image dynamic range. This allows after mapping an HDR-image to an LDR-image (low dynamic range image) to get a better distribution of the intensity over all pixels in the image. The result is enhancing brightness, contrast and/or sharpness of images without the appearance of visible medical artefacts.

Medical images are an important part of the diagnostic process. In many cases the accuracy of dia... more Medical images are an important part of the diagnostic process. In many cases the accuracy of diagnosis depends on the quality of the image. Therefore, the image quality improvement is an essential part of medical imaging techniques. Now the quality enhancement process is divided into two parts: pre-processing, whose task is to optimize the image quality in the process of its creation by digital devices and apparata, and post-processing, whose task is increasing the readability and intelligibility of images on the physician’s computer display. The proposed paper offers a new postprocessing method for X-ray image quality enhancement using the theory of High Dynamic Range images (HDR-images). Since one could not get real images with different exposures, four techniques to simulate various levels of image exposures for HDR-image creation are proposed and analysed in the presented paper.

The quality control of the developing process is achieved through a predefined set of policies, quality assessment, and the management of activities to eliminate defects and weaknesses wherever the development process. The paper presents a successful approach to the development of a new medical device that will successfully pass all stages of certification to obtain a CE-mark.
