The filler was grinded using ball milling process and mixed with polyester resin using ultra- sonification process. The results reveal that the addition of Acacia Nilotica filler up to 25 v/v% in the polyester resin enhances the mechanical properties of the composite material. Further, increasing the filler content above 25 v/v% drop the mechanical properties. The visco-elastic property of the composite was performed using dynamic mechanical analyser. It showed that the addition of Acacia Nilotica up to 25v/v % increases the storage modulus and reduces the damping (tan δ) factor. An effort has been made to associate the experimental storage modulus and damping factor with various theories also was performed. POLYM. COMPOS., 2016. © 2016 Society of Plastics Engineers

Due to this nature an incompatibility between the fiber and matrix exist which decreases the properties of the composite. This defect can be overcome by chemical modification of fiber surface so as to make it less hydrophilic. In this work, alkali (NaOH) of various concentrations (0.5%, 1%, 2%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) was used to treat the fiber surface and the effect of these concentrations on the mechanical and visco-elastic behaviour of the composites were carried out. From the experimental investigation, it is found that 1% NaOH treated fiber reinforced composites behaves superiorly than other treated and untreated fiber composite. Further, SEM image analysis also shows the effect of alkali concentration over the fiber surfaces which leads to improving the mechanical properties of the composite.

Models used for the comparison are Hirsch, Halpin–Tsai, Nielson, Bowyer and Bader’s, and Modified Rule of Mixture. Further, the effect of fiber length on the tensile properties of the composite was compared with Bowyer and Bader method. Of the used theories of reinforcement, it is found that Modified rule of mixture predicts tensile properties closer to experimental values and next comes Bowyer and Bader method.

Of the various machining process, drilling is one of the most common machining processes used for the assemblage of various parts. During drilling process, composites undergo delamination phenomenon that reduces the structural reliability of the component. The present work focuses on the analysis of delamination behaviour as a function of drilling process parameters at the entrance and exit of the composite plates. In this work, drilling was carried out by varying the feed (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 mm/rev) and speed (500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 r/min), respectively. The drill bit used is made of high-speed steel of a diameter of 10 mm. The quality of the hole drilled was assessed using the machine vision technique, and the extent of delamination was carried out using the ultrasonic C-scan imaging method. The experimentally observed delamination factor was compared wit...

Hence the prediction of optimum fiber length and content becomes important, so that composite can be prepared with best mechanical properties. Experiments are carried out as per ASTM standards to find the mechanical properties namely, tensile strength and modulus, flexural strength and modulus, and impact strength. In addition to mechanical properties, water absorption capacity of the composite is also studied. Further, fractured surface of the specimen are subjected to morphological study using scanning electron microscope. The investigation revealed the suitability of banana fiber as an effective reinforcement in epoxy matrix.

Hybrid composites were prepared using banana/sisal fibers of 40:0, 30:10, 20:20, 10:30, and 0:40 ratios, while overall fiber volume fraction was fixed as 0.4V f. The comparison between experimental and RoHM showed that they are in good agreement.

The fibers are treated with 10% of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and 10% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) for 30 minutes. Woven banana and kenaf fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester (USP) composites were fabricated by moulding technique. The fiber content in the composite is kept constant to 40 %. The variation in the Mechanical properties (Tensile, Flexure and Impact strength) and morphological changes are studied.
