TÓM TẮT Nghiên cứu nhằm mục đích đánh giá ảnh hưởng của mô hình câu lạc bộ (CLB) đọc tạp chí đối ... more TÓM TẮT Nghiên cứu nhằm mục đích đánh giá ảnh hưởng của mô hình câu lạc bộ (CLB) đọc tạp chí đối với hoạt động nghiên cứu khoa học (NCKH) của giảng viên bộ môn Tiếng Anh-Khoa Ngoại Ngữ-ĐH Thái Nguyên về hai mặt: mức độ quan tâm và cấp độ vận dụng. Dữ liệu được thu thập thông qua khảo sát và phỏng vấn dựa trên mô hình CBAM (Concern-based Adoption Model) với các giảng viên của đơn vị. Kết quả cho thấy mô hình CLB tạp chí đã có những tác động nhất định, thu hút sự quan tâm của người tham gia ở các mức độ khác nhau và kiến thức thu được từ CLB đang được vận dụng vào thực tiễn NCKH của giảng viên từ mức thụ động hướng tới chủ động. Tuy nhiên, tại thời điểm khảo sát, CLB chưa được coi là ưu tiên và được quan tâm đúng mức bởi các giảng viên. Kết quả nghiên cứu tạo tiền đề cho việc vận dụng linh hoạt mô hình này trong các đơn vị giáo dục đại học để phát triển năng lực nghiên cứu khoa học trong giảng viên. ABSTRACT The paper aims to evaluate the effects of the Journal Club to scientific research activities of lecturers at School of Foreign Languages-Thai Nguyen University in two aspects: stages of concern and levels of use. Data were collected via questionnaires and interviews in the Concern-based Adoption Model (CBAM) with participants. Results revealed that the Journal Club drew concerns of the participants at different levels and its contents have been applied into the actual research practice of the teachers. However, at the time of data collection, the club is not the prority and the only concern of the participants.

In English as a foreign language teaching, coursebook evaluation is an indispensable ongoing task... more In English as a foreign language teaching, coursebook evaluation is an indispensable ongoing task to ensure training quality. In this study, we evaluate the coursebook "Life Elementary" which has been used as the official material for students at TNU-University of Information and Communication Technology (ICTU). The study aims at enhancing the effectiveness of using the coursebook to meet the English requirements for students from related stakeholders. 14 English teachers from TNU-University of Information and Communication Technology took part in a survey. The research results reveal that although there are some weaknesses in terms of the boredom of writing activities, inadequate pronunciation practice, and unfamiliar cultural contents, the coursebook "Life Elementary" essentially is relevant to the training objectives and the university's teaching-learning context. Implications for better use of the coursebook are proposed. This study is a useful source of reference for English teachers who are interested in coursebook evaluation in particular and training institutions with similar contexts. TÓM TẮT Trong việc giảng dạy tiếng Anh như một ngoại ngữ, việc đánh giá giáo trình là một công việc liên tục không thể thiếu để đảm bảo chất lượng đào tạo. Trong nghiên cứu này, chúng tôi đánh giá giáo trình "Life Elementary" được sử dụng làm tài liệu học tập chính thức cho sinh viên tại Trường Đại học Công nghệ Thông tin và Truyền thông-Đại học Thái Nguyên. Mục đích của nghiên cứu là nhằm nâng cao hiệu quả của việc sử dụng giáo trình và qua đó đáp ứng được các yêu cầu về trình độ tiếng Anh đối với sinh viên đến từ cá nhân, tổ chức liên quan. 14 giáo viên tiếng Anh từ Trường Đại học Công nghệ Thông tin và Truyền thông đã tham gia trả lời khảo sát. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy rằng mặc dù có một số điểm yếu như hoạt động viết còn nhàm chán, hoạt động thực hành phát âm còn ít và một số nội dung văn hóa còn chưa phù hợp nhưng về cơ bản giáo trình đáp ứng và phù hợp với mục tiêu đào tạo, thực tiễn dạy-học tại trường. Nghiên cứu cũng đưa ra các gợi ý sư phạm cho việc hiệu chỉnh và sử dụng giáo trình hiệu quả hơn. Nghiên cứu này là một nguồn tài liệu tham khảo hữu ích cho các giáo viên tiếng Anh quan tâm đến việc đánh giá giáo trình nói riêng và các đơn vị đào tạo có đặc điểm dạy-học tương tự nhà trường. This action research first explores the problems faced by both teachers and students at School of... more This action research first explores the problems faced by both teachers and students at School of Foreign Languages - Thai Nguyen University in doing their English Magazine Project, and then examines the effectiveness of the researcher’s intervention at her class which was using portfolios to (1) let students take input from their reading to improve their writing and (2) enhance teamwork skills by means of compulsory group-editing. A combination of qualitative data from class observation and interviews and quantitative ones from questionnaire and writing error calculation was employed among participants. Results revealed that lack of exposure to authentic reading

In ESL learning, successful English vocabulary learning is a vital part of acquiring English. How... more In ESL learning, successful English vocabulary learning is a vital part of acquiring English. However, the current teaching and learning English vocabulary in University of Information and Communication Technology gained little success due to the traditional face-to-face instruction model and some limitations related to large class size, time constraints, students' demotivation and ability. In this experimental study, we presents meticulously the process to design the vocabulary lessons on Quizlet and vocabulary reading practices on Edmodo website, and then experiment these vocabulary learning activities on the experimental group. The result collected from pre-test and post-test reveals that there is a significant improvement in vocabulary knowledge in experimental group in comparison with the control one. This study is a useful source of reference for those keen on applying ICT for vocabulary teaching and learning in particular and in English education in general.
