The study design was randomized controlled trial with high glycemic index food as control. The location of the research was in Medan, North Sumatra Province. Total subjects were 64 which consisted of 32 normal and 32 obese subjects, based on their body mass index. The number of male and female subjects were selected equally. Subject aged between 18 to 35 years. Test meals consisted of four types, i.e. high glycemic index food (GI:94), low glycemic index food (GI:52), medium glycemic index (high carbohydrate-low fat, GI:66), and medium glycemic index (low carbohydrate-high fat, GI:64) served at the morning. Reference food was white bread . The study showed that there is no significant effect of low glycemic index food served at the morning on the lipid profile of plasm atfter lunch. There was no significant difference (p<0.05) between lipid profile of plasm between normal and obese subjects in response to lunch meals which were preceded by the same morning meals. It is suggested to elaborate the study with the longer period of time of treatment.
