Reforming medical curriculum to adopt CBME implicates major changes in all aspects and research on this is still lacking. This study aims at identifying changes in implementing CBME from the aspects of organization and structural changes, curricular design, implementation and evaluation and cultural changes. Methods: Retrospective qualitative method is applied using purposive sampling. Selected documents are used as the data and analysed using thematic analysis. Results: Four themes are identified for the first aspect, i.e. the role of central authority, multidepartment committees, committed change agents, and decision-making procedures. Whereas for the second aspect, five themes are pinpointed, consisting of curriculum design at macro level, meso and micro level, faculty development program, learning resources, implementation, and monitoring and qualitative ev...

Although many theories and research results showed that interactive lecture is better than conventional lecture, but in fact, only few lecturers use the interactive method in teaching and learning process. Literature stated that using conventional method in teaching and learning process does not motivate students to learn more while using the other one (interactive lecture) will enhance students’ motivation. Collaborative learning is one of interactive lecture method. Based on the facts mentioned above, the researcher wants to compare students’ motivation who participate in conventional method and those who participate in collaborative learning method.Method: This was a quantitative research with experimental approach, used posttest only with control group design. This research measured students’ learning motivation by using Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). S...

Motivation can affect student learning achievement. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between motivation and student learning achievement. Method: This research method was a cross sectional survey. The study was conducted at the Medical Faculty of Lampung University. The study population was students that taking Medical Basic Science (MBS) blocks 3. Samples were from all population. The instrument used to assess motivation was Motivated Strategies of Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). The questionnaire comprises 6 dimensions divided into 31 questions that intrinsic, extrinsic, task value, control of learning beliefs, self-efficacy and anxiety. Learning achievement were measured by the MCQ which. Questionnaire data were taken at the end of the block MBS3, which analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation. Results: The correlation between intrinsic motivation and student’s achievement o...

Rate of progression and innovation in science along with future medical world challenge incresingly strengthen self-directed learning and life-long learning as something that need to be noted. The importance of SDL can be discerned when American Board of Medical Specialties and World Federation for Medical Education put it as something that need to be evaluate in medical student during their time of study. The aims of this study is to gain explanation about self-directed learning implementation through PBL system and self-directed learning readiness in medical institutions in Asia.Method: This study is a literature review, that is a study been held by searching, collect, analyze and summarize a number of articles concerning self-directed learning implementation through problem-based learning to medical students in As...

By replicating a Dutch study in Indonesia, we analysed whether differences in processes influenced the perceived instructiveness of feedback. Over a two-week period, Indonesian students (n = 215) recorded feedback moments during clerkships, noting who provided the feedback, whether the feedback was based on observations, who initiated the feedback, and its perceived instructiveness. Data were compared with the earlier Dutch study and analysed with χ(2) tests, t-tests and multilevel techniques. Cultural differences were explored using Hofstede's Model, with Indonesia and the Netherlands differing on "power distance" and "individualism." Perceived instructiveness of feedback did not differ significantly between both countries. However, significant differences were found in feedback provider, observation and initiative. Indonesian students perceived feedback as more instructive ...
