The study aimed to find out the students’ attitude toward the transformation of online to offline learning in the EFL classroom. This descriptive quantitative study is a survey engaging in three Iyer attitude scales categories; enjoyment, academic efficacy, and anxiety as the instrument. From a total of 225 students in the tenth as the population, 39 students were responded the questionnaires as the sample through purposive sampling. The data obtained was later calculated for each responses’ percentage. The participation level of each three scales categories for both online and offline learning was interpreted using the interval scale modified from Erarslan and Topkaya. The abstract should In the era of the fourth industrial revolution today, the interaction between... more The abstract should In the era of the fourth industrial revolution today, the interaction between countries and cultures are no longer confined to overt geographical barriers due to technological advancement. However, these advances have created a countervailing effect on cultural identity, with a tendency to its loss; as well as cultural hegemony of one culture upon another culture. This phenomenon could be seen as well among foreign language learners. This critical literature study aims to examine the urgency of intercultural communication competence in foreign language learning to secure national cultural identity. This study has been commenced with the analysis of the development of intercultural interaction; determinant factors in intercultural competency integration of a language learning process; as well as the utilization of technology to enhance intercultural communication competency in the foreign language learning process. The result shows that information & communication technology (ICT) is beneficial in the materials development for foreign language learning. It carries the role of a media in learning, also as a means of communication to integrate intercultural communication competency into the foreign language learning process in today's era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The present research aimed at elaborating the implementation of educational vlogs as well as lecturers’ and students’ perceptions in response to the use and the creation of educational vlogs to enhance their speaking proficiency and reduce their speaking hesitancy. The research piloted to university students who attended speaking for beginner course in Lamongan. This is mixed-method research employed 27 students who were purposefully selected as the sample based on their speaking proficiency level (good, average and less than average). This research aimed at investigating the extent of accentedness and intelligibility as well as th... more This research aimed at investigating the extent of accentedness and intelligibility as well as the acceptability of Indonesian foreign-accented speech perceived by native and non-native listeners, as well as finding their correlation to each other. It used qualitative research. The participant of the research was selected using purposive sampling. The participants were divided into speakers and listeners. There are six speakers and four listeners selected. The four listeners were native and nonnative listeners who rated and transcribed six recorded reading of Indonesian speakers by means of SPIN (Speech Perception in Noise) test. The results show that native listeners rate the speech almost the same way as non-native listeners do. The speeches with clear and accurate pronunciation are rated highly accepted and fully intelligible, regardless of having a very strong accent. An analysis of the students’ needs demonstrated that there is no primary instructional material o... more An analysis of the students’ needs demonstrated that there is no primary instructional material of speaking for beginner utilized in the classroom. In addition, both lecturers and students preferred the utilization of an authentic audio-visual material like YouTube videos rather than a traditional material taken from textbook to accelerate their speaking proficiency. The current study sought to develop educational YouTube videos-based instructional material of speaking for beginner course through Borg & Gall model that cover three main stages out of ten stages; preliminary research, model development, and model validation. Fifty-nine students who attended speaking for beginner course of three universities in Lamongan; Darul Ulum Islamic University, Billfath University, and the Islamic University of Lamongan participated in the try-out stage. Three kinds of Instruments are questionnaire and interview guidance that were adapted from Djahida, while validation checklist was adopted from Beaudin and Balasubramanian, Shetty & Sathyanarayana. The instrucional material developed in this study is so-titled ‘Speaking for Beginner: A way to speak like natives’. The acceptability revealed in the students’ evaluation at the try-out demonstrates that, the material was generally good and acceptable for the students and the lecturers. Such results bring about the conclusion that ‘Speaking for Beginner: A way to speak like natives’ is suitable and applicable to the speaking for beginner classroom.

Therefore, teachers of foreign language urgently need to understand the acquisition order of linguistics components to achieve an appropriate learning outcome, especially on syntactic mastery of the target language. For Indonesian learners, English sentence which employs verbs as its predicate is one of most complex linguistics component to learn and apply in their writing. The absence of a copula verb in Indonesian sentences which mostly ignored by some Indonesian learners affects the problem. There have been widely exposed researches that analyze accented and intelligible speech of foreig... more There have been widely exposed researches that analyze accented and intelligible speech of foreign language; yet, the study concerning listeners' awareness of the pronunciation errors is hardly found. Therefore, the current study aims to find out segmental features and the source of errors that have caused unintelligible speech of Indonesian-accented speech and describe the listeners' awareness of the errors. This descriptive qualitative research investigates listeners' transcripts of Indonesian-accented speeches through purposive sampling. The standard orthography transcripts are then transformed into phonemic transcripts. They are analyzed by error analysis based on phonological operation by Davenport and Hannahs. Developing an Online Course Book for English Freshmen in Lamongan Universities

Until these days, the possibility of face-to-face teaching learning process in any universities i... more Until these days, the possibility of face-to-face teaching learning process in any universities is quite low. Therefore, the need of online learning materials for online or/and blended learning is inevitable. The present research aimed to develop an onlinebook for Reading 1 course at 3 universities in Lamongan. Unlike other online ELT books which is western-oriented, this online course book was developed based on Lamongan-Javanese’ local wisdom. A total of 135 freshmen and 3 lecturers were involved as the subjects. The results of need analysis showed that 1) the freshmen have positive attitude towards English reading even though they confronted by some problems, 2) the lecturers seemed to have different interpretations on their freshmen’ reading preferences, and 3) the students’ reading comprehension level needed to be improved. A number of implications regarding these findings were discussed as well in this research.
