Data was collected through literature study and then, ten stories of the rice myths will be analyzed uses the literary comparative study approach. The comparison includes the version, theme, and topoi of the story. The results of comparison are differences and similarities of the story based on topoi and theme. In addition, the rice myth is also closely related to the concept of the Mother Goddess; a concept that identifies the mother/woman as the earth or the source of life. Meanwhile, the most topoi which is found in the story are sacrifice and transformation that means respect and praise for the earth among the agrarian community culture.

This study is conducted by using a comparative historical analysis of two legends, entitled "Mali... more This study is conducted by using a comparative historical analysis of two legends, entitled "Malin Deman and Puti Bungsu" from Indonesia (West Sumatra) and "Niu Lang and Zhi Nu" from China. It uses the Finnish comparative literary approach with the motifs method. The results of this study signify that four motifs described the pattern of Indonesian-Chinese literary and cultural kinship. The four motifs were (1) the motif about women and family, (2) the motif about color , (3) the motif about numbers, and (4) the motif about animals. Those motifs indicate a cultural connection between the two nations, Indonesia and China, combined as a characteristic of the Austronesian cultural region.

Literary works with Islamic nuances can be used as a forum and means as alternative reading in forming a person with noble character. The purpose of this study is to describe the noble character in the form of Islamic values through fiction in the form of the novel Assalamualaikum Beijing, Rumah Tanpa Jendela, and Surga yang Tak Dirindukan by Asma Nadia. The fruit of the creative process of this female novelist can be used as an alternative or supplement to Islamic reading for the younger generation (students). This study uses a structuralism approach with a qualitative descriptive method through a literature study. The three literary works of Asma Nadia contain messages so that the younger generation (students) will later become (1) Islamic people who have a firm stand, strong, independent, pious, and efficient; and (2) motivated to care more about the environment, one another, and His glory. The leading Islamic values are faith, worship, and the fruits of good morals (patience, sincerity, and gratitude) are the core of character building for the younger generation. Thus, teachers, parents, the younger generation (students), and stakeholders must synergize in fostering the literacy of the younger generation (students) in this case the interest in reading literary works with Islamic nuances.

It is an intercommunication with the kinship system that is adhered materilined community, it is very interesting to examine the existence of these female figures. This study aims to describe the profile of women in “Kaba Cindua Mato” especially in Minangkabau society. This research includes descriptive studies. The profile of women is reflected as in “Kaba Cindua Mato” those whose sense of responsibility in life. This study is expected to encourage women of Minangkabau, so, they do not forget the Minangkabau culture.

This study discusses the representation of aesthetic values in the kara-mbangan verses of the pam... more This study discusses the representation of aesthetic values in the kara-mbangan verses of the pamona tribe in Poso regency. The object of the study is a collection of transcribed karambangan verses. Furthermore, there is an explanation of the aesthetic value, the function of aesthetic value, and the benefits of the aesthetic value of the pamona tribe's kar-ambangan verses. This research is a qualitative research with a content analysis method, and a hermeneutics approach. Data collection uses observation techniques, interviews, and documentation studies. The results of the study found that the pamona tribe's poetry consists of aesthetic values, such as (1) religious values, (2) cultural values, (3) moral values, (4) educational values, (5) entertainment values, (6) sacrificial values, and (7) compassion values.

This paper aims to describe (1) the role of each element of story structure in building the integ... more This paper aims to describe (1) the role of each element of story structure in building the integrity of the story; (2) obedience and deviation of a person (main character) to religious values; and (3) the implications of the results of the short story analysis as material for learning literature in high school. This research relies on pragmatic, structural, and religious literary approaches using descriptive, qualitative, and interpretive methods to understand the issue of religiosity. The research data is in the form of narrative text and passage of dialogue between stories that contain messages of religious value. Data collection is done through library research. Data analysis uses heuristic and hermeneutic readings, then the interpretation of meaning is in accordance with the research objectives. The results of the study show that the analysis of religious values in the short stories Salawat Dedaun leads to the teachings of Islam, including faith (belief and belief), worship (prayer), and morality (good behavior). In addition, there is an ambiguity in the heart or dual character in the main character, namely obedience and deviation from the Islam he adheres to. On the one hand, his willingness to ask forgiveness from God through good behavior is interceding and remembrance. However, on the other hand, the behavior of kindness is in the care and remembrance is not accompanied by worship services. This short story by Yanusa Nugroho is full of sentiments and learning about something that is appropriate and which is not feasible for many people to become godly people. Finally, the results of the analysis of religious values can be implied as material for learning literature in high school in the 2013 curriculum, especially class XII with basic competencies and core competencies. Basic competencies are related to intrinsic elements and extrinsic elements (religious values), namely understanding the structure and rules of the short story text. In addition, core competencies are related to interpreting meanings in short story texts.
