In the literature, lateral condylar Hoffa fracture is mentioned as a more common injury pattern than medial condylar Hoffa fracture. The mechanism of injury and method of treatment is not very well described in the literature. We are presenting a rare case of comminuted medial condylar Hoffa fracture with ipsilateral patellar fracture. The mechanism of injury has not been described in the literature. Lag screw fixation, which is the most acceptable method of treatment, is not possible due to comminution. We explain the possible mechanism of injury and fix the fracture with L-buttress plate.

The stem bark and wood of Berberis aristata DC (Daruharidra) are one of the principal ingredients... more The stem bark and wood of Berberis aristata DC (Daruharidra) are one of the principal ingredients of traditional skin lighting and exfoliating scrub preparation in India. The standardised extract of B. aristata was screened to evaluate their in vitro antityrosinase activity and inhibition kinetics. Phytochemical and pharmacological studies were carried out with different solvent fractions of the methanol extract of B. aristata (MEBA). RP-HPLC analysis was used to determine the berberine content in extract and fractions of B. aristata. MEBA showed maximum berberine content. Extract and fractions of B. aristata contain the maximum amount of alkaloids than other constituents. In tyrosinase inhibition assay, MEBA was found to possess highest dose-dependent monophenolase and moderate diphenolase activity. The enzyme kinetic study revealed that MEBA possessed mixed type inhibition of monophenolase activity of tyrosinase. These bioactivities indicate that the MEBA has antihyperpigmentation...

ABSTRACT Skin aging is the result of programed senescence and prolonged environmental injury to s... more ABSTRACT Skin aging is the result of programed senescence and prolonged environmental injury to skin. Human skin is continuously exposed to environmental influences and is therefore subjected to both intrinsic as well as extrinsic aging processes. Aged skin is characterized by the loss of skin tone and resilience, increased roughness and dryness, irregular pigmentation, sunburn, accelerated skin aging, wrinkles, and several malignant skin cancers. Plant secondary metabolites have been exploited for their potential activities such as antiaging, antiwrinkle, antioxidant, antiinflammatory, wound healing, skin whitening, and anticancer activities. Several scientific validations on natural products derived from the traditional system of medicine have been developed in this context. Recent trends in antiaging research projected the use of natural products derived from ancient era after scientific validation. Therefore, an attempt has been made in this chapter to highlight skin aging pathways of natural bioactive molecules and skin aging management.
