Cooperatives and social enterprises were also seen as potential sources of innovative solutions to socioeconomic challenges that have been identified as EU priorities: inclusive growth, aiding regional economic development, smart growth, addressing poverty and social exclusion, and creating sustainable growth. Based on an extensive literature review, analyses of available official data and case studies of cooperatives and social enterprises in England, Italy, Poland, Spain and Sweden, the study analyses the growth and development of cooperatives and social enterprises since the last financial crisis and their impact on work and employment

It is one of the hypotheses here that the more integrated corporatist type of networks achieves better results of the inter-organizational activities. It is asserted that a more integrative network goes with the societal type of corporatism. It is asserted that so-called societal corporatism nourishes a more integrated network of organizations while so-called state corporatism is associated with less integrated or loosely connected organizations.

This report looks at reasons for enabling WPI, along with its adoption and implementation, and the impacts of it from the viewpoints of the organisation and management, employees and employee representatives. From the database of the third European Company Survey (ECS 2013), some 51 companies were selected from 10 EU Member States in which case studies were undertaken.

St... more The European Union has long been introducing actions aiming at strengthening social inclusion. Starting from actions to combat poverty and social exclusion in the 70s to introducing social inclusion measures and targeting specific groups, it has come a long way with a large number of instruments. This chapter presents how social inclusion is reflected in European and international initiatives. Additionally, actions of the European social partners with regard to social inclusion are also highlighted. The social inclusion definition as used in the European debate and policy documents shows its multidimensional character. References to social inclusion programmes and initiatives should not be interpreted as exhaustive but rather as showing priorities, target groups, concerted actions and progress.

It draws upon existing Eurofound research that examined the issue of young people ‘not in employment, education or training’ (NEET). This research is particularly pertinent for Greece, which has been disproportionately affected by youth unemployment as a result of the economic crisis. Societal effects include the greater financial dependence of young people on the family income, and the delaying of family formation. The report finds that young people with a tertiary level of education, and young women looking for their first job are candidates for targeted policy action. In addition, the older NEET population (25–29 years) merits special attention.
