
South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS)
The South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS) aims to be a regional centre of excellence by conducting research and offering post-graduate education in South Asian law and human rights.
Its mission is to further the potential of South Asia in legal education, research and scholarship and to impart knowledge and the skills which are necessary to confront the new challenges of this era.
It is sponsored by the South Asia Foundation (SAF), which is founded by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Madanjeet Singh. SAF has been recognized as an Apex Body of South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC). SAF Bangladesh Chapter is headed by Eminent Jurist Dr. Kamal Hossain.
The minds behind SAILS, a UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Excellence, aim to identify contemporary problems which are slowing the development of human rights in the South Asian Region and promote an understanding of the common trends and traditions of the legal systems of the South Asian counties and to further greater harmonization, development and unification of the laws of the region.
SAILS intends to be a platform for legal research leading to regional Integration through increasing regional cooperation for devising appropriate means for using law as a catalyst of change for orientation of stakeholders in innovative ways for implementation of economic and social rights of the citizens and for identifying modalities of how law can be used to remove obstacles to changes and reforms directed to empowerment of the people.
The institution registered in Bangladesh as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
The Institute is an independent Institute; however, has an agreement with BRAC University for purposes of conferral of degrees as well as cooperation with other related matter. It is in networks with related academics and professional institutions in the region and beyond.
