Ontologies as a knowledge representation method are already being applied in various areas. There... more Ontologies as a knowledge representation method are already being applied in various areas. Therefore, this method is introduced to new developers constantly. The paper investigates possibility for overlooking ontology features that can enable users to properly represent semantics of the domain of interest. In initial research, ontology development using frames was considered and evaluation was made based on criteria connected to classes, hierarchy and attributes. Possible beginner oversights are identified. Suggestions considering chosen semantic criteria are also described.

Rapid changes cause disruption of organizations, especially new information technologies and organizations that are born digital. To cope, many organizations undergo digital transformation and change their business models. In such conditions, knowledge management is more important than ever, but the question is whether companies recognize its large potentials, from supporting digital business and digital workforce to preserving and delivering critical knowledge at any time. In this paper we discuss benefits that knowledge management can give organizations in disruptive times together with issues and challenges that arise. Also, an overview of new information technologies that may be incorporated into knowledge management systems and contribute to those benefits is presented, such as technologies connected to artificial intelligence. This leads to examination how disruptive times and technologies change knowledge management itself and whether and how they affect processes of creating, managing, sharing and using organizational knowledge.

Computer science studies offer a number of programming courses. Previous research, mostly concent... more Computer science studies offer a number of programming courses. Previous research, mostly concentrated on object-oriented programming, has shown that students face various obstacles in learning programming languages, which resulted in suggestions for improving teaching process in this field. Logic programming, belonging to a different, declarative programming paradigm, has been researched to a smaller extent, although it raises even bigger challenges for both students and teachers. Students are recommended to first acquire knowledge in formal logic, and then to learn how to apply that knowledge in logic programming. This paper addresses teaching formal logic and especially logic programming. As a first step in initiative for its improvement, an overview of existing logic programming teaching resources is made, with the emphasis on freely available online courses, materials and tools.

In our paper several directions will be discussed regarding: (a) expressing constraints in ontologies using first order logic and description logic, (b) complexity of ontology extension both in depth (for example, from domain ontology to application ontology) and in width (broadening of the domain), and (c) usage of combination of various ontology evaluation methods. Paper presents one part of the work on the project "Development of information infrastructure and deductive mechanisms of Semantic Web", funded by Ministry of science, education and sport in Croatia.
Pojam igrifikacije danas dobiva sve veći značaj u kontekstu poslovanja i obrazovanja u kojem doka... more Pojam igrifikacije danas dobiva sve veći značaj u kontekstu poslovanja i obrazovanja u kojem dokazano donosi brojne prednosti (primjerice, povećanje motivacije i produktivnosti zaposlenika/učenika i sl.). S porastom popularnosti igrifikacije u akademskom i industrijskom okruženju razvijeni su i koriste se brojni termini koji često imaju vrlo slično značenje, što stvara nedoumice i poteškoće kod njihova korištenja. Dodatan problem se javlja kod pokušaja prevođenja tih termina s engleskog na hrvatski jezik zbog različitih sintagmi koje se koriste u navedenim jezicima. Stoga je u ovom radu napravljen sistematizirani pregled najvažnijih i najčešćih termina vezanih uz područje igrifikacije te njezinih sudionika i elemenata. Također su predloženi nazivi standardnih termina, kao i njihove definicije.

Namely, a term "loophole in the law" is well known. Examples of such a domain are also studies at Croatian universities, as well as ontology of one part of Croatian Family Legislation Act that covers motherhood and parenthood terms. Studies at universities example The Bologna process and new higher education legislation in Croatia have made the domain of studies at universities an interesting subject for domain ontology development at the country level. This paper describes an initial research about connections of domain ontologies with upper ones through relations between root classes of domain ontologies and upper ontology concepts. Analysis results and potential for further research are also presented.

This paper presents well-known factors that influence the knowledge elicitation (KEL) technique s... more This paper presents well-known factors that influence the knowledge elicitation (KEL) technique selection combined with psychological factors. Those factors can be considered as crisp or fuzzy. Also, additional elements that influence on the determination of factors are proposed. This approach to the KEL technique selection, using elements, is implemented in a rule-based application with fuzzy reasoning that gives a list of ranked techniques as a result. Application research results were evaluated against research results obtained according to prior knowledge of research subjects in this field. The aim was to see whether there is a need to develop more complex and systematic methods for the KEL technique selection or simpler ones that can be easily made using excerpts from literature can give the same results quality. Proposals for other methods of the KEL technique selection are made.

Big data is a well-known area of research due to many challenges, which are constantly appearing.... more Big data is a well-known area of research due to many challenges, which are constantly appearing. Although specifically big data analytics has been prominently in the focus of interest, big data management as a whole should be guided properly, so that as much information and knowledge as possible can be obtained from data for their intended purpose. There are many proposed solutions that are trying to resolve various issues that arose with big data, for example weak processing capability of traditional systems, such as relational databases, to efficiently manage them. New technologies that are trying to cope with various unstructured or structured forms of data are also being researched, Hadoop and NoSQL databases being some of them. Big data challenges are also connected with requirements in the domain of their usage, such as business and commerce, healthcare, public sector, education, or scientific research. This paper examines current research of big data management, especially according to its various domains of application. It gives an insight into applications of big data in various domains of different background (business, government, etc.), followed by a discussion on issues and challenges in its application, as well as mechanisms developed to resolve them. Additionally, this paper discusses the benefits and values of using big data solutions in selected domains. The contribution of the paper is also an overview of big data associated differences and similarities among domains that are most researched in the context of this area of interest.
