New Approximated Method of Auxiliary Sources for large-size scatterer

In this paper, an efficient approximated method based upon the method of auxiliary sources (MAS) ... more In this paper, an efficient approximated method based upon the method of auxiliary sources (MAS) is proposed to solve the twodimensional scattering problem of large, infinite and perfectly conducting cylinder (PEC). To reduce the size of the total computational cost, the formulation of the MAS is modified by minimizing the number of auxiliary sources considered to implement the solution. It is shown that the standard formulation of the method of auxiliary sources, based on placing a finite number of auxiliary sources in an interior cylinder, can be replaced by a finite number of strips placed on the same interior cylinder. These strips, containing auxiliary sources, are separated by a constant angle. Thus, compared with the standard MAS, the number of auxiliary sources of the new approximated method is reduced; also the proposed method can greatly reduce the computational complexity and the memory requirement. We consider fast and accurate solutions of scattering problems by large perfectly conducting obje... more We consider fast and accurate solutions of scattering problems by large perfectly conducting objects (PEC) formulated by an optimization of the Method of Auxiliary Sources (MAS). We present various techniques used to reduce the total computational cost of the scattering problem. The first technique is based on replacing the object by an array of finite number of small (PEC) object with the same shape. The second solution reduces the problem on considering only the half of the object.These two solutions are compared to results from the reference bibliography.

The purpose of this paper is a rigorous accuracy analysis of the parameters affecting the solutio... more The purpose of this paper is a rigorous accuracy analysis of the parameters affecting the solution convergence of the method of auxiliary sources (MAS). This study concerns the electromagnetic scattering of a transverse wave by a perfectly conducting, infinite, cylinder with an arbitrary shape. It is shown that convergence of the MAS depends on the relation between the number of auxiliary sources and their position in the cylinder. It is demonstrated that it is possible to study the convergence of the MAS by using the characteristics of the obtained MAS matrix. The essential characteristic is the matrix condition number defining the linear system. The effect of the variation of the auxiliary distance and the position of auxiliary sources on the convergence of the solutionis also demonstrated. For this, many plots are represented and discussed in this paper.

In this paper, we propose to apply a technique of optimization of the convergence of the method o... more In this paper, we propose to apply a technique of optimization of the convergence of the method of auxiliary sources (MAS) for the 2D problems of electromagnetic scattering by a perfectly conducting obstacle. This technique is based on the application of the genetic algorithm (GA). Previous studies have shown that the convergence of the MAS solution depends on many parameters such as the number of auxiliary sources and the auxiliary distance between the real surface of the cylinder and the fictitious surface, and so on. The solution is obtained with a good choice of these parameters. In this article, the genetic algorithm is chosen to facilitate this choice.

In all the experiences that will be done, we will demonstrate the variation of the error estimation of the MAS on the boundary of the scatterer.
