A detailed analysis of the liquid film characteristics and the accompanying heat transfer of a fr... more A detailed analysis of the liquid film characteristics and the accompanying heat transfer of a free surface controlled liquid impinging jet onto a rotating disk are presented. The computations were run on a two-dimensional axi-symmetric Eulerian mesh while the free surface was calculated with the volume of fluid method. Flow rates between 3 and 15 Ipm with rotational speeds between 50 and 200 rpm are analyzed. The effects of inlet temperature on the film thickness and heat transfer are characterized as well as evaporative effects. The conjugate heating effect is modeled, and was found to effect the heat transfer results the most at both the inner and outer edges of the heated surface. The heat transfer was enhanced with both increasing flow rate and increasing rotational speeds. When evaporative effects were modeled, the evaporation was found to increase the heat transfer at the lower flow rates the most because of a M y developed thermal field that was achieved. The evaporative effects did not significantly enhance the heat transfer at the higher flow rates.

ABSTRACT This paper presents a 160 GHz center frequency pulsed 65 nm CMOS transceiver for short r... more ABSTRACT This paper presents a 160 GHz center frequency pulsed 65 nm CMOS transceiver for short range radar applications. Four phased array transceivers were implemented in a single chip with antennas implemented in a BGA package. The implemented transmitter is capable of producing pulses of 100 ps widths ($&gt;$20 GHz RF bandwidth) at a 160 GHz carrier frequency. The measured effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP) is 18.8 dBm for continuous wave outputs. The analog beam forming receiver achieves an overall gain of 42.5 dB, $-$14 dBm ${rm IP}_{1{rm dB}}$, 7 GHz bandwidth, and a noise figure of 22.5 dB. The sliding window time-dilation baseband relaxes the output data rate and subsequent digital processing requirements. Fine grained duty cycling reduces power dissipation. The entire chip consumes 2.2 W from 1.2/1.4 V supplies in a 65 nm digital CMOS process.

A computational vascular fluid-structure interaction framework for the simulation of patient-spec... more A computational vascular fluid-structure interaction framework for the simulation of patient-specific cerebral aneurysm configurations is presented. A new approach for the computation of the blood vessel tissue prestress is also described. Simulations of four patient-specific models are carried out, and quantities of hemodynamic interest such as wall shear stress and wall tension are studied to examine the relevance of fluid-structure interaction modeling when compared to the rigid arterial wall assumption. We demonstrate that flexible wall modeling plays an important role in accurate prediction of patient-specific hemodynamics. Discussion of the clinical relevance of our methods and results is provided.

The key challenges including the effects of metal structures associated with integrated circuits, heat removal, packaging, and interaction of transmitted and received signals with nearby circuits appear to be manageable. This technology can potentially be used for intra and inter-chip interconnection, and implementation of true single chip radios, beacons, radars, RFID tags and others, as well as contact-less high frequency testing.
