
S M Solaiman
Solaiman has over 30 years of legal teaching and research experience at the university level both in Australia and Bangladesh. He started teaching as a Lecturer in Law in 1990 at Islamic University, Bangladesh, where he was gradually promoted to the position of Professor of Law in recognition of his academic attainments. He also worked at American International University Bangladesh as Professor of Business Law.Prior to joining the University of Wollongong in 2005 as a Lecturer in Law, he was working as a Lecturer in Business Law at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia, where he took up the ongoing position in January 2004.During his tenure at Islamic University, Solaiman acted as Dean of the Faculty of Law, Chairman of the Department of Law, and Provost of a Student Dormitory quite apart from his regular academic assignments.Solaiman’s main areas of research interest are securities regulation, corporate law, criminal law, business law, Asian law, and food safety law. He is a keen researcher, which is evident from his extensive publications of two book chapters and 54 journal articles in various national and international journals in the United States, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Australia and Asia on diverse areas of law predominantly in the corporate law and criminal law areas. He has also presented 51 papers at various national and international seminars and conferences in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia. His research outputs have been extensively cited in the research publications of 27 countries-mostly in the UK, the USA, Australia and Europe. Before becoming a legal academic, Solaiman worked as a practicing lawyer in Bangladesh, a common law jurisdiction, for a short period.
