Se lleva a cabo un intento de integración de toda la realidad, externa e interna, considerando su... more Se lleva a cabo un intento de integración de toda la realidad, externa e interna, considerando sus formas de expresión más elevadas y las más empobrecidas. Yendo desde las llamadas experiencias cumbre a las caóticas experiencias abismales, el tiempo, sea en su forma linear, cíclica e intemporal, se describe dentro de una perspectiva adual, o no-dualista, a través de un modelo espiral y campo unificado. El estudio en profundidad de las mayores crisis y conflictos humanos, personales y sociales, contribuye a crear una teoría general integral, tal vez quintaesencial, tanto de la creatividad como de la destructividad humanas. Se unifica así el destinocon la fatalidad y el libre albedrío con la vocación. Algunos de los ejemplos históricos y literarios más sobresalientes son utilizados aquí a modo de "ratones de experimentación" de un laboratorio psicológico del espíritu humano. Asimismo, ciertos dinámicas destructivas y drásticos comportamientos emocionales negativos permiten alcanzar un mejor entendimiento de la naturaleza del mal con la doble intención de prevenirlo y curarlo. Ya que las experiencias cumbre tienen en común las suficientes características para poderlas considerar "a todas como una", lo opuesto, las experiencias caóticas o abismales, también pueden hacer que en su raíz adual/taoísta los más profundos conflictos y crisis, desde psíquicos a espirituales y hasta sociopolíticos, sean todos "uno". Hipócrates, en: "Aire, Aguas y Lugares" Abraham Maslow en psicología y Otto Warburg (1956) en investigación de cáncer expresaron el mismo concepto: sólo podemos curar las enfermedades que podemos comprender primero. Otros, desde Albert Einstein (1954) a John White (1988) expresaron una visión similar, la de que un problema nunca se resuelve al mismo nivel que se originó. En un intento de integrar los efectos de las desviaciones genéticas y microambientales de un "efecto masa" en la patogenia de "la enfermedad" -física o psicológica-inicialmente propusimos una formulación matemática relacionando tiempo y localización (espacio), mientras se enfatizaba la necesidad de ahondar en profundas integraciones y síntesis en contra de la creciente especialización analítico-reduccionista . A systematic outlook of metabolism regarding the strategy followed by cancer cells is necessary i... more A systematic outlook of metabolism regarding the strategy followed by cancer cells is necessary in order to understand the thermodynamic advantages of these cells and the difficulty found in the treatment of certain malignant diseases. These features show that the present-day vision, the biochemical-analytical-fragmentary-reduccionistic approach, is not and it is not likely that it wil never be sufficient. Thus, a new paradigm of a different dimension but a the same time complementary to the previous and actual one seems necessary. Therefore, a higher and more comprehensive and outreaching vision, transbiochemical and metaenzymatic, one ecologically and macro and microenvironmentally oriented and finally synthetic and unitary one, appears mandatory. The dynamics of the hydrogen ion as applied to biological processes seems to be able to offer the opportunity to arrive to such kind of unifying comprehension through an integrated perceptive model at multiple levels of biological, biomedical and biophysical understanding.

A case of a 30 years old patient with an adenocarcinoma of the lung which grew on a scar secondary to a motorbike accident that happened 15 years earlier is here presented. The age of the patient, the pathology of the tumor, the radiological demonstration of the tumor progressively growing on and around a preexistent scar, as well as the long period of time that elapsed in between the initial etiological factor and the final diagnosis leave very few doubts about the "scar" origin of this neoplasia. Previously undescribed and possible etiopathogenetic mechanisms of these tumors are considered from the biochemical and energetic points of view.

Los intricados caminos de señalización intracelular en la desregulación de la apoptosis, espontán... more Los intricados caminos de señalización intracelular en la desregulación de la apoptosis, espontánea o inducida, se han convertido en las principales dianas terapéuticas en enfermedades que van desde las neoplásicas a los procesos neurodegenerotivos. A la vista de los tendencias actuales en investigación se puede afirmar que el fracaso en inducir una apoptosis selectiva en las células y tumores cancerosas (proapoptosis), y en sentido contrario, lo imposibilidad de evitar lo apoptosis espontánea en enfermedades neurodegenerativas como el Alzheimer (antiapoptosis), representan una raíz y árbol común pora dos ramas, o áreas de la medicina, creciendo en sentidos opuestos. El enfoque aquí presentado es un intento de estimular una visión integrada de ambas ramas y áreas de investigación, oncología y neurología, en orden a mejorar la comprensión de sus naturalezas íntimas, tratando así de incrementar el entendimiento de las anormalidades básicas y clínicas de los procesos bajo estudio. A esto se puede acceder a través de un escalonamiento diferenciador de las posibilidades terapéuticas que se están abriendo en la actualidad así como merced o una consideración preliminar de los peligros potenciales que pueden surgir en el empeño. From basic research to the different situations preceding mucosal malignancies, there is considerable evidence to propose that chronic and deep-seated abnormalities in local pH may have both a direct and an indirect role in the etiology of epithelial human cancer. A high microenvironmental pH also appears to act as a universal mediator and activating factor of many different chemical and biological carcinogens.

The hierarchical organization of biological processes is considered in the light of universal int... more The hierarchical organization of biological processes is considered in the light of universal interrelationships of each and every factor affecting open systems such as human life. The maintenance of health and/or the production of disease are viewed at different levels of biological organization as related to the dualistic concept. The relative effects of environmental versus genetic tendencies in the pathogenesis of "disease" are mathematically formulated as related to time and location. Psychological determinants are considered as cause and as consequence of the onset of somatic disease. The multifactorial aspects of chronic pathology are seen in relation to dominant tendencies in life and in medical sciences, as well as to individual factors. The "non-specificity" of some aspects of cancer as related to "Adaptation" is advanced. Doubts are raised regarding the ultimate value of modern technological achievements and overspecialization per se, as well as on the lines followed by modern trends in the organization of cancer research. Finally, the increasing need for progressive thoughtful integration versus increasing specialization is stressed.

The acid-base aspects of metabolism as applied to cancer are considered. Preliminary data are presented. The primary concept of hydrogen ion dynamics is related to prevention, development, and etiology of carcinogenicity, as well as to the regression of certain malignant malignant tumors. The present overview summarizes, in terms of H+ dynamics, many related concepts in oncologic research and associates and integrates a variety of basic and clinical observations toward better understanding of cancer cell behavior, biology, and host-tumor relationships.

Como alternativa, se ofrece una aproximación de raíz que se dirige hacia una praxis política psicológicamente más abierta, madura y evolucionada. Este enfoque aspira a consensuar todos los complejos factores involucrados en conflictos que incluyan violencia social en orden a relacionarlos de maneras sanas y pacíficas. Desarrolla a su vez un lenguaje universal válido para todas las partes enfrentadas, un esperanto psicológico-político que está en condiciones de materializar una nueva visión lo suficientemente profunda y amplia para acoger, negociar y relacionar sanamente, y de una forma integrada las diferentes realidades, estados de conciencia, cosmovisiones en juego, tanto como los diversos nacionalismos e incluso hasta civilizaciones enfrentadas.

Toma prestado el título del de un maravilloso y profético libro publicado por el ya desaparecido filósofo Raimon Panikkar (Península, 1999), un libro que todo político, profesional o no y cualquiera que sea su sensibilidad, debería tener muy presente, más hoy en día. El elevado y místico espíritu del autor, mundialmente reconocido en el ámbito de la gran cultura, introdujo el concepto de lo "metapolítico" como solución de dicotomías, hiperdualismos y confrontaciones. Tan sólo a partir de lo metapolítico la realidad externa, dice Panikkar en su libro, puede ser comprendida, pero nunca desde el nivel de conciencia del Sistema actual. La alternativa reside en dicha cosmovisión integral y ascendida, nivel desde donde se puede criticar drásticamente la política moderna como "el lugar de lo demoníaco". Cancer remains a leading cause of death in the world today. Despite decades of research to identi... more Cancer remains a leading cause of death in the world today. Despite decades of research to identify novel therapeutic approaches, durable regressions of metastatic disease are still scanty and survival benefits often negligible. While the current strategy is mostly converging on target-therapies aimed at selectively affecting altered molecular pathways in tumor cells, evidences are in parallel pointing to cell metabolism as a potential Achilles' heel of cancer, to be disrupted for achieving therapeutic benefit. Critical differences in the metabolism of tumor versus normal cells, which include abnormal glycolysis, high lactic acid production, protons accumulation and reversed intra-extracellular pH gradients, make tumor site a hostile microenvironment where only cancer cells can proliferate and survive. Inhibiting these pathways by blocking proton pumps and transporters may deprive cancer cells of a key mechanism of detoxification and thus represent a novel strategy for a pleiotropic and multifaceted suppression of cancer cell growth. Research groups scattered all over the world have recently started to investigate various aspects of proton dynamics in cancer cells with quite encouraging preliminary results. The intent of unifying investigators involved in this research line led to the formation of the "International Society for Proton Dynamics in Cancer" (ISPDC) in January 2010. This is the manifesto of the newly formed society where both basic and clinical investigators are called to foster translational research and stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration for the development of more specific and less toxic therapeutic strategies based on proton dynamics in tumor cell biology.
