The study region is the Arabian Peninsula, which falls under the northern crest of the equatorial ionization anomaly (EIA). Even though the study was conducted during a solar minimum period, considerable occurrences of pre-sunset scintillation have been observed between 15-17 local time, particularly during the winter solstices. While most scintillation occurrences have been observed at low elevation (15 to 30 degrees), a considerable number of scintillation patches have been observed towards the north, east, and southeast of the receiver location, for elevation angles ranging from 40 to 60 degrees. Our analysis shows that BeiDou geostationary orbit (GEO) and inclined GEO (IGSO) satellites may have been the main contributor to the incre...

Comprehensive Technology Qualification Process for Subsea Electronics Assemblies

To ensure the reliable operation of electrical/electronic systems for at least 25 years on the seabed, a comprehensive technology qualification program is proposed in this article. In relation to this, technology readiness level of the subsea electrical/electronics assembly is achieved after conducting devised environmental stress tests compliant to the internationally recognized standards, e.g., API, ISO, IEC, and IEEE. The comprehensive tests methods of the qualification program are explained to achieve the technology readiness level 3 of the subsea printed circuit board and subassemblies. Finally, experimental test results of a standalone subsea Ethernet switch and also functional verification with 100 m of electrical flying lead undergoing the prescribed test methods show that the subsea electronics comply with the international standards and is fit for use in the subsea environment.

The two dimensional model with constant hydraulic head boundaries (where the head has not been changed) were used to compute the seasonal drawdowns and these computed drawdowns were compared with field data. The drawdown contours of September were found in good agreement with field data, but of February showed low drawdowns. It was thought that the irrigation period is from May to September, so the recharge was cut off after September and in doing this way the computed and field contours were found in good agreement, thus the recharge occurs in the irrigation period only. In this study the qualitative relationships among drawdown, subsidence and thickness of clay layer were determined and it was concluded in the following way: For same drawdown, the subsidence is higher for thicker clay layer, and for constant thickness, the subsidence increases with increase in drawdown.

This metallic ion layer is formed when meteors burn in the upper atmosphere resulting in the deposition of free metal atoms and ions. Many studies have attributed to the presence of Es due to metallic ion layer, specifically during the 10 nighttime. Using data from a network of meteor monitoring towers and a collocated digital ionosonde radar near Arabian Peninsula, in this paper, we are reporting our observations of Es together with the meteor count. It has been observed that the presence of Es and the meteor count data have no correlation in time, both diurnally and seasonally, leading us to conclude that presence of meteors is not the main cause for the presence of Es over Arabian Peninsula.

It has been observed that headteachers in public schools at the primary level are not performing as per the need of the time. For the purpose, a tailor-made questionnaire was distributed among randomly selected headteachers. The quantitative research approach was used to solve the query. The results indicate the lenient approach of headteachers towards their duties.

The universe of this study was the young female students, parents of the students and ladies working in different organizations of Sind province who were also interviewed about the low enrollment of female students in schools. The findings of this study revealed that female have the requisite aptitude for STEM education but social, cultural and conservative ideology of parents/heads of the families created hindrances in the progress of young enthusiastic girls who wish or have the potential of getting STEM education, moreover, such institutes are not available in their nearby area.

Impact of Ionospheric Horizontal Asymmetry on Electron Density Profiles Derived by GNSS Radio Occultation

Because of the implicit assumption of spherical symmetry for the electron density distribution in the ionosphere, the standard Onion-peeling algorithm could give erroneous concentration values in the retrieved electron density profile. In particular, this happens when strong horizontal ionospheric electron density gradients are present, like for example in the Equatorial Ionization Anomaly (EIA) region during high solar activity periods. In this work, using simulated RO TEC data computed by means of the NeQuick2 ionospheric electron density model and ideal RO geometries, we tried to formulate and evaluate an asymmetry level indicator for quasi-horizontal radio occultation observations. This asymmetry index is based on the electron density variation that a ray may experience along its propagation path (satellite to satellite link) in a RO event. Our previous qualitative assessment based on ideal simulations of RO events shows very high correlation between our asymmetry index and Onion-peeling retrieval errors (Shaikh M.M. et al 2013): errors produced by Onion-peeling in the retrieval of NmF2 and VTEC are larger at the geographical locations where our asymmetry index indicates high asymmetry in the ionosphere. In this contribution, an analysis of the asymmetry index has been carried out for the first time using real radio occultation geometries taken from COSMIC mission. This has been done for COSMIC events for which, considering the same RO geometry, simulated Limb-TEC (LTEC) under NeQuick2 background were quite close to the real LTEC observations (providing ‘quasi' co-located vertical profiles of electron density after inversion). On the basis of the outcomes of our work, for a given geometry of a real RO event and using a suitable ionospheric model, we will try to investigate the possibility to predict ionospheric asymmetry expected for the particular RO geometry considered. We could also try to evaluate, in advance, its impact on the inverted electron density profile, providing an indication of the expected product quality, if standard Onion-peelingalgorithm will be adopted to invert the observables. Results presented in this paper are initial outcomes based on our asymmetry evaluation algorithm

Supply chain Management is a combination of three words supply, chain and management. Supply is a... more Supply chain Management is a combination of three words supply, chain and management. Supply is all about meeting the needs, wants and demands of customers where as the chain actually represents connectivity. Further management is all about planning the supplies transit to meet demand , organizing the processes sequence for it , controlling and ensuring the process quality through check points and gate control systems, leading by defining process ownership and staffing by right sizing at each and every step. Thus aforementioned three words combined together to form supply chain management. Supply chain management is also to provide the best possible services to the customer with maximum cost effectiveness. Another recent development in the field of supply chain management is the evolution of supply chain operation reference model also known as SCOR model. This model was first introduced by the supply chain council (SCC), a globally known corporation due to excellence in supply chain practices and systems formulation. This SCOR model is actually a reference model standardized terminology and processes [42] which actually emphasizes on benchmarking. This benchmarking is actually related to an operational measurement in order to craft a portfolio for improvement which is directly linked and tied with balance sheet of the company for improved performance along with bottom line increment. Information technology (IT) applications in the field of supply chain management (SCM) has achieved a significance by virtue of its capability and ability to lessen the costs and enhanced responsiveness in the supply chain functions [41], [15] , [19], [36], [45], [43].

The fault is first detected from regression lines of the raw time series. Model for the normal condition time series is estimated using a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) neural network. The trained network is then used for filtering of abnormal condition time series. The fault is further confirmed/ analyzed using the regression lines of the predicted normal and inverse-filtered abnormal conditions time series. The described scheme is applied to two fault diagnosis problems using acoustic and vibration data obtained from rotating parts of an automobile and a boring tool, respectively.
