A practical thyroid imaging reporting and data system (TI-RADS) for thyroid nodules and ultrasound elastography are valuable tools not only for characterization of nodules but also for the selection of tumors for fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). Objective This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of US evaluation in the prediction of malignant thyroid nodules and evaluate the role of the elastography score, strain ratio (SR), and the TI-RADS scoring system as non-invasive tools in differentiation between malignant and benign thyroid nodules. Material and methods A total of 1269 patients were evaluated between February 2017 and April 2020 by a single expert thyroid ultrasound operator. The final diagnosis was achieved from cytological and/or histological evaluation and follow-up for at least 1 year. Results There were 1...

The objective of this study was to explore perceptions of pharmacy stakeholders on a national licensing exam. Methods: A qualitative study was undertaken in Qatar using three focus groups; two with pharmacists (N = 3 and 8) and one with graduating pharmacy students (N=5). Focus groups were facilitated using a topic guide developed by study investigators. Discussions were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Results were analysed using framework analysis. Results: Four major themes were identified: i) Perception of current licensing process, ii) exam impact on stakeholder perception of pharmacists, iii) perceived implementation barriers, and iv) facilitators of successful implementation. Conclusion: Participants identified the importance of a competency-based exam. ...

A Guideline International Network special interest group established to support collaboration to improve uptake of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) across the emergency care sector conducted an international survey to identify attributes of guideline likely to enhance their use.

Design: A retrospective case control study. Patients and Methods: Tow groups of head and neck cancer patients matching in age, sex, smoking and incidence of diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Group I twenty eight post neck irradiation treated patients and a 22 cancer patients with no history of irradiation therapy (group II). Both groups subjected to physical examination, laboratory assessment including total lipid profile, fasting blood sugar and HbAIc. Carotid duplex study was done to all patients assessing intimamedia thickness, plaque existence and lumen reduction. Results: Patients in group I (radiotherapy treated cancer patients) show statistical sign...

The results of the survey showed higher preference of group-learning activities which (together with other factors) represented a challenge for the newly developed national system. Such challenge was mitigated by Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners - Accreditation Department (QCHP-AD) using several support strategies including close monitoring of Dentists participation in the National CPD program, stakeholder collaboration, healthcare practitioners training and promoting the concept of interprofessional education, the later showed to be highly effective for ensuring availability of CPD activities to dentists and achieving high rate of compliance with the nat...

However, it is unknown which procedure is associated with better post-procedural valvular function. We conducted a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials that compared TAVR to sAVR for at least 2 years. The primary outcome was post-procedural patient-prosthesis-mismatch (PPM). Secondary outcomes were post-procedural and 2-year: effective orifice area (EOA), paravalvular gradient (PVG) and moderate/severe paravalvular leak (PVL). We identified 6 trials with a total of 7022 participants with severe aortic stenosis. TAVR was associated with 37% (95% CI [0.51–0.78) mean RR reduction of post-procedural PPM, a decrease that was not affected by the surgical risk at inclusion, neither by the transcatheter heart valve system. Postprocedural changes in gradient and EOA were also in favor of TAVR as there was a pooled mean difference decrease of 0.56 (95% CI [0...

Historically, the management of diabetes was primarily the responsibility of providers. More recently, however, patient-centered care and comprehensive team approaches have gained attention, with endocrine clinics providing care through a multidisciplinary team that includes a diabetes educator [2]. In fact, many studies, such as the Regimen adherence questionnaire and the Johnson, et al. 24-h recall interview, have revealed that Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) is a critical element of care in order to improve patient outcomes [3].

Eight cases were developed, validated, and had standards set according to a blueprint, and were assessed with graduating pharmacy students. Assessor reliability was evaluated using inter-class coefficients (ICCs). Concurrent validity was evaluated by comparing OSCE results to professional skills course grades. Field notes were maintained to generate recommendations for implementation in other contexts. The examination pass mark was 424 points out of 700 (60.6%). All 23 participants passed. Mean performance was 74.6%. Low to moderate inter-rater reliability was obtained for analytical and global components (average ICC 0.77 and 0.48, respectively). In conclusion, OSCE was feasible in Qatar but context-related validity and reliability concerns must be addressed prior to future iterations in Qatar and elsewhere.

We aim to assess mortality and socio-economic outcomes among patients hospitalized for stroke and diabetes in the US and evaluate their recent trends. We examined: in-hospital mortality, length of stay (LoS), and overall hospital charges in diabetic patients over 18 years old who were hospitalized with a stroke from 2005 to 2014, included in the National Inpatient Sample. In those patients, the mean (SD) age slightly decreased from 70 (13) years to 69 (13) years (p-trend

The main aim was to highlight research and work supporting healthcare professions continuing education and professional development. A collection of seventeen manuscripts of various types such as "New Education Method and Tools", "Research Article", "Case Study", "Practical Tips or Guidelines", "Report of Meeting or Workshop" and "Commentary" were published. The articles portray fundamental good CPD practices encompassing the array of professional competencies needed to provide high quality healthcare. The manuscripts cover various CPD subthemes among which, mentorship and feedback, interactive learning, learning communities and applied technology, interprofessional education, evaluation and assessment, research in CPD, CPD frameworks, patient safety and quality improvement. They also embrace various perspectives and cultural diversity with the deemed adjustments to the regional healthcare teams' needs. The role and responsibilities of CPD educators are emboldened. This edition was a platform to welcome and discuss CPD under various perspectives among the global CPD community.
