However, a systematic understanding of the design recommendations in Senior Online Communities is still lacking in scientific documentation. The aim of this paper is to identify the design recommendations used in online communities that support active aging. In addition, this paper highlights some of the benefits of using online communities by older adults. Twenty-three papers published between January 2015 and May 2020 in English-language, peer-reviewed publications, met inclusion criteria. The review presents a set of recommendations for designing online communities to enhance older adults’ social interactions. A process that aims for “engagement” is suggested to strategically guide the design of Senior Online Communities: Interacting – Sense of Belonging (Role-playing, St...

Much of the studies found allow us to conclude that students that currently attend higher education are used to multitasking and are active users of online devices, platforms and services in both personal and learning contexts. Research shows that the presence of technology and social media in the daily life of young people is no longer just a growing trend but rather a current fact, which produces intensive and participatory communication dynamics.

In fact, data presented by the European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ESPAD) confirms that many Portuguese students aged 13-18 are online daily (ESPAD, 2016). But what do they consume? This paper presents the partial and preliminary results of 0014CI&DETS Project-The consumption and sharing contents of Internet by students of higher education: the case of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, specifically related to the consumption practices of Internet content by students of the School of Education, one of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu Schools. The principal objective of the Project is to understand the use that higher education students do of the contents available on the Internet. The methodological approach includes the application of an online questionnaire survey, with questions related to: i) the socio-demographic and institutional data of the participants; ii) access to and use of the Internet; iii) competences for its use; iv) consumption and sharing content; v) and attitudes and preferences regarding consumption and sharing. The sample includes 120 students, with participation of students attending the courses of Social Communication (N=79) and Multimedia and Plastics Arts (N=32). Most of the participants are female (N=88), attend the 1st year of the course (N=88) and the average age is 19.36 years (SD=2.56). Asked about how often they access the Internet, 95.8% of the students said they use it every day. Preliminary results from the quantitative analysis suggest that the most popular activities are: listen to music, see photos and read text posts on social networks daily. The analysis presented in this article refers only to data obtained between June and September 2017 and was performed using the SPSS-Statistical Package for Social Sciences.

Although they were not created for the purpose, the role that social networks, in particular Facebook, have taken as a content diffusion platform is unquestionable. Nowadays, traditional media (radio, newspaper, television) use the Web's potential to distribute news content (Canelas, 2011). Currently, all TV news channels in Portugal have a website or a page on social networks. TV stations have increased communication channels with the public on digital platforms and study strategies that promote the participation and interaction with the news content (Cazajeira, 2015). The TV / Internet convergence will not only reach the content, but also the consumer, who becomes an interactive and participative audience. This reality imposes on journalism a continuous and updated news production system, dependent on a user being permanently connected to the Internet (Cazajeira, 2015). In fact, an ERC report (2015) confirms the relevance that social media has assumed in the publication and consumption of news. Social networks are recognised as one of the most important means for news media consultation, right after television, and the practice of sharing news is very common among consumers of online news in Portugal. Furthermore, when compared to other countries analysed by Reuters Institute (Newman, Levy, & Nielsen, 2015), Portuguese consumers are those who make the most comments to online news, preferring social networks to news sites. Considering the importance of new online platforms for journalism, this study aims to present a quantitative analysis of user participation on the Facebook pages of the three Portuguese TV news channels, specifically RTP3, SIC Notícias and TVI24, between 8 and 14 February 2016. To track this participation, the following parameters were used: the "like" button as a way to study the demonstration of publication interest; "sharing" of a particular element, be it a photo, a video or a text, on their own Timeline, the Timeline of a friend or by private message. This monitoring is important to understand the dissemination of news content; and the comments area. The number of comments will help understand the dynamics and the discussion that the publication has on the public. The results of 1063 posts indicate that of the analysed parameters-"Like", "Comment", and "Share"the one with the greatest power of participation among the users of the pages of the three Portuguese TV news channels is the "Like" system, followed by "Share" and then "Comment". Analysing the thematic that create the most user participation with "Likes" and "Comments" parameters are "Science and Technology". "Education" and "Humorous/Satirical/Unusual Finally, the publications available end of the night (10pm-1am) has better participation rates.

Older Adults in ICT Contexts: Recommendations for Developing Tutorials
Human Aspects of IT for the Aged Population. Design for the Elderly and Technology Acceptance, 2019

This reality is mainly due to their lack of access opportunities, physical and psycho-sociological individual characteristics, and by the functionality of technology. Even though many older people are still digitally-excluded, the number of who are willing to use ICT is increasing. Older people aren’t afraid to try new technology when they see a clear benefit. This study focuses on the analysis of empirical projects, solutions and/or experiences, national and international, guided to the applicability of tools to support the use of technological tools and services by older adults. The main goal is to draw up some guidelines for designing tools that can facilitate the older adults’ use of the miOne community. MiOne is an online community created under the project SEDUCE 2.0 - Use of Communication and Information in the miOne online community by senior citizen. Relevant electronic databases were searched using the following keywords, in Portuguese and English language: help tutorial, video tutorial, multimedia tutorial, older adults, and help tools. Findings suggest some recommendations for the adequate development of solutions that can help older users to use different ICT contexts.
