De Standaard publiceerde dit weekend een artikel betreffende de wiskundige modellen van universit... more De Standaard publiceerde dit weekend een artikel betreffende de wiskundige modellen van universiteiten waarop Sciensano zich baseert om de evolutie van Covid-19 te analyseren en vervolgens op basis ervan hun dagelijkse briefing te houden. Ik twijfel ernstig aan de betrouwbaarheid van deze gegevens omdat ik aan de hand van mijn eigen modellen, tot gans andere dagdagelijkse bevindingen kom. Na een gesprek met Sciensano, heb ik begrepen dat de verzameling van de gegevens op een erg amateuristische wijze gebeurde en dat de informatie die men openbaar maakt niet bijzonder betrouwbaar is. Sciensano legt uit dat voor hun de dagdagelijkse gegevens minder belangrijk zijn dan de tendensen. Ik ben het hiermee eens. Maar waarom dan regelmatig publiek positieve besluiten trekken uit geïsoleerde cijfers? De zinnen uit het artikel van De Standaard: " Twee weken na de lockdown is het aantal bevestigde gevallen (van infecties) afwijkend van ons initiële model van exponentiële groei." en " Wij zien het effect van de maatregelen sinds maandag in onze cijfers" hebben mij de gebreken van de gebruikte modellen doen inzien. Problematisch Het probleem schuilt in het feit dat deze modellen blijkbaar zuiver theoretisch zijn waarbij het aan wat pragmatisme ontbreekt met betrekking tot de realiteit van Covid-19 in België. Zo gebruiken de meeste modellen een unieke reproductiefactor geldig voor epidemiologische verschijnselen op een grotere en meer homogene schaal, terwijl dit hier niet het geval is. Men kan niet één reproductiefactor gebruiken voor verscheidene populaties die sociaal niet homogeen zijn en ook omdat de ziekte voortgezet wordt over verschillende dragers: door nabije en minder nabije contacten van personen of door contaminatie van oppervlakten (K. Dietz 1993). Het gaat dus niet om een 'bevroren' curve of model, maar wel degelijk om een reële curve die bij benadering een exponentiële curve of die van een logistische functie (ontwikkeld door de Belgische wiskundige Pierre François Verhulst) voorstelt. Zo'n geval, wegens het gebrek van een stabiele reproductiefactor vereist regelmatig aanpassingen die eerder van empirische dan van zuiver theoretische aard zijn en ook omwille van de externe invloeden/storingen in de gegevens. Waarom en welke externe invloeden ? Het is duidelijk is dat de meetresultaten over de tijd gebeuren op basis van veranderlijke methodes zoals het feit dat besmette personen buiten de hospitalen vanaf een zekere periode niet meer bijgeteld worden. Het aantal van de geteste infecties in België is niet meer onderworpen aan dezelfde criteria sinds het begin en variëert doorheen de crisis waardoor deze cijfers ook niet geschikt zijn om de situatie te voorspellen.

Introduction This document has been first produced for a letter to UNESCO end 2019 in relation to... more Introduction This document has been first produced for a letter to UNESCO end 2019 in relation to the Aalst Carnival problems and its potential withdrawal from the UNESCO list, which eventually happened. Since that moment, many other antisemitic events happened in Belgium and were due to public organisations or publicly known individuals. This present document provides an update on the situation in Belgium. Anti-Semitic attacks are on the rise in Belgium. The mainstream media, politicians and several influential NGOs, some subsidized by successive governments, are hostile to Israel in such an obsessive way that their hostility degenerates into increased anti-Semitic behaviour. The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights' report on anti-Semitism confirmed this 1. Criticism of the policies of a country should not lead to hatred against its population or even against any population living in other countries, just as criticism of certain country leaders should neither result in violence against its population nor against immigrants from those countries. It has become public knowledge that a lot of campaigns in Belgium, though not all, against the state of Israel and its policies are motivated by anti-Semitic bigotry. In several countries the BDS campaign is considered as anti-Semitic. But not in Belgium where it has become mainstream. For instance, the Flemish public broadcaster VRT organised in cooperation with BDS Belgium 2 an anti-Israel exhibition against the 2019 Eurovision song contest which was held in Israel, even though the VRT is a member of the Eurovision contest. The federal antidiscrimination and antiracist organisation UNIA has refused that Belgium adopts the EU definition of anti-Semitism. Highranking staff at UNIA did not deal with several anti-Semitic incidents. In fact, UNIA counts among the worst anti-discrimination organisations in the world as far as combating Jew hatred and anti-Semitism is concerned. Their staff and their Flemish managers are at the source of anti-Semitic bigotry 3 ! The Flanders region withdrew out of UNIA and one of the reasons was the antisemitic behavior from some people of the present management. A list of these incidents is listed below by type of organisation: politicians, institutional organisations and justice, public media, private mainstream media, state-subsidised organisations and NGO's including the support from the "intelligentsia" to these actions and writings. This list is only an excerpt of the real situation in Belgium. For a few examples, where appropriate, a comparison is made with similar situations and the difference of reactions in other countries. But one item is sure: Belgium is at the forefront in Europe for antisemitic behavior and the European Commission admits she is powerless.

Due to the wrong handling of the whole issue by the antiracist organisation of Belgium, UNIA, which defended, for personal reasons the Nazi-type stereotypes by the float. Due to the refusal of the burgermeister to engage in dialogue and the fact that those responsible for the Carnival float were fully aware of what they were doing, a no-delisting from the UNESCO list is no option at all.
A definite delisting, however will punish the whole Carnival and the whole city. They do not understand the wrongdoing because they are used to similar stereotypes used in Belgium by the media and intellectuals. They should be informed correctly of what was not addressed, probably wilfully, by UNIA and the burgermeister.
My suggestion is to apply a suspensive verdict whereby, condemning UNIA and the burgermeister, the Aalst Carnival stays on the list temporarily but can’t claim anymore the UNESCO name. They could be put normally on the list again by the beginning of 2023, if certain conditions are fulfilled such as those proposed hereafter in (3.10.) E.g. the end by self-regulation of racist oriented mockery of Jews (in a town without Jews) and other ethnical groups. Aalst should organise events, exhibitions, cultural activities and entertainments related to the rich Jewish culture with the purpose of fostering a better understanding of “the Jews”. Any other decision: no-withdrawal as well as full withdrawal can only provide today bad and dangerous results for both parties involved.
