My career has paralleled the adoption of digital technologies worldwide, and I have been involved in the use, training, and promotion of new tools. I've played roles in the digital transformation of newspaper, broadcast, and new media operations, in addition to training next generation users at the secondary, junior college and university levels.
After some experience teaching, I returned to school to study education structures and how to innovate pedagogical practices using technology, as well as to examine what barriers exist for its use in higher education. My research also looks at media representations and the messages they convey to Students of Color about higher education and the likelihood of their success there. I've also examined how the "place" and "space" from which news is told can impact its believability and legitimacy.
In addition to how media operates, I've examined the value and the organizational need for diversity in schools and workplaces, and examined organizational practices and structures that can impede diversity and its benefits. This has resulted in the examination of organizational structures, the utilization and implications of technology, and the mix of staff, faculty and managers needed to teach and innovate along the ever-changing curve of technical applications and innovations.
Along the way, I have led the development and administration of multi-county emergency food networks in rural areas, departments within business and academic structures, and ground-up community initiatives. My experience as a journalist, media producer, and community organizer has driven my success in promoting, developing and sustaining more than two dozen programs and business initiatives..

To explore this question, 30 college students studying media production were shown two 15-minute video excerpts from longer programs about a social issue. The programs presented the same issue, teenage pregnancy, in geographically different settings (rural vs. urban), and media spaces (genre and locus). In a preliminary textual analysis of questionnaires completed by students, it was obvious that they reacted to these differences in both their descriptions and critiques of the programs.
