Although recent studies have aimed to rescue and redeem Hagar from patriarchal interpretations, insufficient attention has been given to the emotive quality of Hagar’s narrative. Therefore, this research aimed to fill this gap by examining the underexplored biblical character of Hagar. A literary critical methodology to analyse the rhetorical impact of the language was used in Hagar’s narrative in order to illuminate the emotive aspect of her story as a marginalised character, which may resonate with modern hearers. By using this analytical framework, we unearthed a distressing narrative of mistreatment and manipulation that allowed hearers to empathise with Hagar’s experiences of marginalisation, dehumanisation, and exploitation. This finding resulted in the conclusion that Hagar’s story generated various affective responses of outrage, compassion, and hope from contemporary hearers.
Sights and Sounds of Death Valley: A Close Reading of Ezekiel 37:1-14, 2018

A meticulous study of the text demonstrates that Ezekiel intentionally used visual and auditory language to organize the literary structure of the vision, to invite the reader to see, hear, and experience the event along with him, and to intimately encounter the presence of YHWH.

Israel's refusal to hear Yhwh's voice leads to each generation becoming more perverted, more depraved, and more corrupted than the prior generation, resulting in complete disorder at the end of the book. The downward spiral into anarchy and the steady social and spiritual deterioration seen in the book of Judges closely correspond to the security, interests, and welfare of the women in the narrative. The spiritual disintegration caused by Israel's progressive deafness to Yhwh's voice is linked to the oppression, violence, and silencing of women's voices in Israel. This article examines the stories of the Israelite female characters in Judges and argues that the stories of women are organized in such a way that they expose the downward spiral of Israel as a whole.

chapter, I will explore how the motifs of YHWH’s glory and holiness
interrelate in the book of Ezekiel by carefully examining the first major
vision narrative of YHWH’s glory recorded in Ezekiel 1-3. In order
to organize the chapter and to guide the reader through the first
vision of YHWH’s glory, I begin with some general observations
about chs. 1-3, move to a thorough study of the vision, paying particular
attention to the themes of seeing and hearing, and then I provide
a summary of the interrelationship between the glory of
YHWH and the holiness of YHWH in the first vision.
