Neuroendocrine carcinomas are epithelial neoplasm with predominant neuroendocrine differentiation... more Neuroendocrine carcinomas are epithelial neoplasm with predominant neuroendocrine differentiation. Mostly they are found in gastrointestinal and respiratory system. In the nasal and paranasal sinus regions, squamous cell carcinoma is the most common tumor, followed by adenocarcinoma, malignant lymphoma, sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma, and olfactory neuroblastoma. Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of head and neck region is extremely rare. Until now, very few cases of neuroendocrine tumors of paranasal sinuses have been documented. Compared to other organ systems, the neuroendocrine carcinoma involving sinuses are much more aggressive and with poor prognosis. The rarity of this carcinoma has restricted the understanding of its etiology and clinical outcome. We herein reporting a case of large cell poorly differentiated neuroendocrine tumor of maxilla with orbital extension with the purpose of analysis of the available information of this rare malignancy.

Intraoral schwannoma is rare and intraosseous schwannoma involving maxilla is even rare. We present one such rare case of maxillary sinus schwannoma extending to the nasal cavity, infratemporal fossa in a 22-year-old male. Wide excision of the lesion with subtotal maxillectomy of the right side was done using Weber–Fergusson approach. The patient made a good postoperative recovery. The relevant literature on the presentation, radiology, and management of schwannoma of maxillary sinus is discussed.

The management of TMJ ankylosis has a complicated chore and it is challenging for the maxillofacial surgeon because of technical hitches and high rate of re-ankylosis. Interpositional gap arthroplasty is one of the modalities for its management. A range of inter-positional materials have been used to avert recurrence after gap arthroplasty in TMJ ankylosis. The aim of this series was to evaluate the effectiveness of the temporomyofacial flap in the treatment of TMJ ankylosis as an interpositional gap arthroplasty. A total of 10 cases with unilateral TMJ ankylosis were treated by interpositional gap arthroplasty by pedicled temporalis myofacial flap and evaluated with a follow-up of 6 months to 5 years (Mean 3.3 years) for the functional stability of TMJ. To evaluate the effects of intraalveolar placement of gel containing 0.2% chlorhexidine and 10gm ... more To evaluate the effects of intraalveolar placement of gel containing 0.2% chlorhexidine and 10gm of metronidazole on the incidence of alveolar osteitis. A total of 300 impacted third molars were extracted in 150 patients enrolled in this trial. In each subject a socket was randomly selected and packed to the crest of alveolar ridge with the gel. The contralateral socket was packed with placebo dressing. The occurrence of dry socket was assessed during 3rd and 5th postoperative days .The data was analysed using a meta analytical program. Double blind, prospective, placebo controlled trial. The combination of metronidazole + chlorhexidine gel significantly reduced dry socket incidence from 22.6% to 6.6% (P ≤ 0.001) [McNemar and chi-square tests]. The decrease in incidence of adverse reactions and complications related to local application of metronidazole and chlorhexidine gel explains its clinical use, specifically in mandibular molar extractions where the chances of dry sockets are ...
Background: Condylar resorption as a cause of relapse after orthognathic surgery is well known. S... more Background: Condylar resorption as a cause of relapse after orthognathic surgery is well known. Several authors have presented evidence of the relation between orthognathic surgery and condylar remodeling and resorption. This study was done to appraise the condylar changes along with the form and function following orthognathic surgery, as well as to assess what factors may have contributed to the problems. Methodology: A diagnosis of progressive condylar resorption (PCR) was made by comparison of preoperative and postoperative radiographs (cephalometric radiograms), as well as clinical evaluations. The radiographs were taken for each patient preoperatively and postoperatively, which include immediately after osteotomy, at 6 months and 24 months. Additional radiographs were taken when required. Then, preoperative and postoperative tracings were compared at 24 months postoperatively. Results and Conclusion: It can be concluded from this study that females of relative low age (<18 years) appeared to be a high-risk factor for the occurrence of condylar alteration including PCR. A steep mandibular plane angle, the low facial height ratio (post/ant), and magnitude of surgery were also significantly related to the occurrence of condylar alteration, but the multivariance regression showed that these parameters had only limited value.

The most common cause for meningoenphalocele is trauma by any means during birth or during development. But here in our case there is lack of such significant history of trauma and so the possible cause of the lesion may be congenital defect only. Preoperative Clinical, CT and MR images are presented. Lesion was removed surgically with satisfactory post operative recovery.

Transparent, clear solutions such as hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, sodium hypochlorite, formaldehyd... more Transparent, clear solutions such as hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, sodium hypochlorite, formaldehyde, and local anaesthetics are widely used in dentistry, so the tissues are liable to accidental injury. Formalin, a 37%-40% solution of formaldehyde, is extensively used in 10% solution as a tissue preservative, but it has toxic effects on systems such as the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, skin, and mucosa. However, we know of few reports of cases of inadvertent injection of alcohol and formalin directly into the human body. In this case report we describe the early and delayed clinical effects of accidental intraoral injection of formalin, the subsequent symptoms and management, and some prudent points that should be learnt to avoid such incidents in the future.

It offers a new option to supplement existing treatment regimens for reconstruction/regeneration of the oral and craniofacial complex, which includes the teeth, periodontium, bones, soft tissues (oral mucosa, conjunctiva, skin), salivary glands, and the temporomandibular joint (bone and cartilage), as well as blood vessels, muscles, tendons, and nerves. Tissue engineering is based on harvesting the stem cells which are having potential to form an organ. Harvested cells are then transferred into scaffolds that are manufactured in a laboratory to resemble the structure of the desired tissue to be replaced. This article reviews the principles of tissue engineering and its various applications in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Since least literature is available about the natural history of radicular cysts, it's not clear that why and what proportion of radicular cysts regress and grows. 4 Most of the radicular cyst are symptomless and are discovered when periapical radiographs are taken of the teeth with nonvital pulps. The formation of the cyst takes place in two stages; first, the epithelial cells proliferate and later undergo degeneration and liquefaction. It was pressure exerted by the liquefaction material, which makes the cyst spherical and ultimately expansion of the same occurs.
