
Dr. Rajen Barua
Dr. Rajen Barua is a U.S. based engineer as well as a critical writer. For most of his life, Barua has been preoccupied with the study of History, Literature, and Language with special interests on the culture and history of Assam and North East India. As a writer, he may be called a 'Literary Bedouin' - to borrow a term from H.G.Wells - whose home is the 'Great Outside' and whose reputation is his own name. In 2012, Barua published 'The Poetry of the World', a translation of the classics of world poetry into Assamese - the first dual language publication of its kind in any Indian language. He also published an anthology of Assamese translation of famous short stories from around the world. Presently he is working on his next upcoming book, The Story of the Assamese Language. Barua is also the chief editor of Saneki, a magazine of world literature in translation.
For the last thirtiy years, Barua has also been engaged in the study of Buddhism, its doctrine, practice, and history, and may be called a Buddhist scholar. In 1915, he was awarded the Ph.D. degree by the Dibrugarh University for his research and dissertation on 'Buddhism in Assam - From the Ancient to Pre Sankaradeva days'. The main part of the book BUDDHISM IN ASSAM published recently is based on that Ph.D. dissertation. Barua is also working on his next book, WHAT HAPPENED TO BUDDHISM IN INDIA
Barua is also the Founder and President of the international think-tank and welfare organization, Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters (FASS), established for the enlightenment and promotion of North East India.
